I remember playing this game as a kid and thinking how great it was to be Spider-Man. Now with Spider-Man 2018 out it shows you just how good a Spider-Man game can be. But there's still the nostalgia factor with this one for me.

Pretty sure that high pitched wailing is the one thing the arcade will always be remembered for the most.

Just a slight little addition that you missed as they also added Bullseye and Typhoid Mary in the Sega CD version of Spidey Vs The Kingpin which, while primarily they're Daredevil villains, I thought was an AWESOME touch as both have worked for Kingpin numerous times in the comics so it still makes sense having them in this game.

I'm telling you! The Genesis was my childhood! I had games like Batman Return of The Joker Batman Returns The Adventures of Batman and Robin Sonic Sonic 2 Sonic 3 Sonic and Knuckles Sonic 3D Blast Spider-Man Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin Spider-Man Maximum Carnage Spider-Man Separation Anxiety Spider-Man and The X-Men And other superhero games I don't have time to mention! Man those were the days!

I love the Sega CD version. Everything is more entertaining and fun but not frustratingly difficult. Some of the songs do a nice job to evoke an apt groove while web slinging and platforming.

I like your angle. It always bugs me how entries at places like Wikipedia and Giant Bomb lump same-titled games into one, when the games themselves are clearly different.

I've played the Mega Drive version and just couldn't get on with it. That Mega CD version looks real solid though. the cutscenes have a sort of early 90s PC adventure game animated scene quality to them and it looks like they really sped the game up. Might have to try that some day. I think i know what you're next series of vids is focusing on. Don't keep us waiting huh.

i recently picked up Spider man for the Genesis after watching your live game play. i agree it isn't the best but not the worse. looking forward to play and finally completing the game. That Spider-Man arcade game at a lot of my very limited income as a kid. I love it so much.

Most of the Mega Drive bosses can be killed without getting hit it's just the patterns take a long time to work out. There are a few tricks like the shortcut at the start of level 1-2 to speed things up too. It's quite dated at this point but I really liked it at the time. Great video. Didn't realise the Mega CD version was so different.

The Sega cd version of Spider-Man is the best 16bit Spider-Man game for that generation hands down

The Forklift Guy: You seem to actually get the pattern here: jump over his forklift and web him in the back. Dr. Octopus: Duck under his tentacle and wait for him to retract it. When he does, get up and punch him, then duck again. You won't get hit a single time. The Lizard: ducking also makes the Lizard duck and he won't get up until you do. Once you get up, he'll run at you and try to hurt you. You need to get far away from him (crawling across the floor won't make him attack you), get up to provoke him and once he gets up, you shoot him with your web and duck again. Once again, you won't get a single hit on you. Electro: Get some higher ground and shoot him with your webs when he'll try to get up to you. Time it right and once again, he won't get a single zap in. Gorilla: Put your Web Shield on, punch the gorilla, walk away from it and once it makes two or three steps, punch it again. Renew your web shield if you need and repeat it until it's down. Sandman: It's a trick boss, you just need to make him appear on the right side from the fire hydrant at the beginnning of the stage and once he does, you quickly punch the fire hydrant. The Biker: get your Web Shield out and make a ducking kick when he passes by. I don't know if it's just me, but I noticed that I had more luck hitting him when I was pressing Forward+Down+Punch rather than just Down+Punch Hobgoblin: Get your web shield up, wait for him to come down, jump and kick him. As simple as that. Venom: Get away from him to an open platform and wait for him to jump to you, while also getting your web shield up (yes, that thing IS mighty useful in the second half of the game). Once he starts landing close to you (but not too close, just in the punch range), you punch him, he'll leap back and then try to jump at you again. Repeat until he's down. The only really difficult boss is The Kingpin, because landing a hit is mighty difficult, especially considering how you also need to web up the contraption that's about to make Mary Jane take an acid bath, but still, it's doable. Keep your Web Shield up when you're about to try and land some hits on ol' Wilson and time your jumping kicks right.

I was born in 1991 my birth year early 90s when Spider-Man: The Video Game arcade game came out from Sega and The Amazing Spider-Man vs.The Kingpin cool stuff I love them both.

I had maximum carnage and separation anxiety but none of the others.

The Sega CD version also has an extra boss fight with both Bullseye and Typhoid Mary at the same time. P.S. Spider-Man in the arcade game looks like he's middle-aged and out of shape with that slight gut.

Do you think in the arcade game they wanted to use storm instead of the sub manner ? If they remade the arcade game today you could use miles instead the sub manner , then has black cat and Mary Jane since she has super hero alter ego now maybe even add four extra characters you play as instead of the orginal four , Say spider man noir , fire storm , ice man , and scarlet spider .

Killer video Joe, I think I played both the Genesis and Sega CD game. I get both mixed up since it has been awhile, but didn't one of the games had a weird ending with having to be very meticulous on diffusing a bomb in a certain way in order to win? I recall being buzzed when a buddy and I went to a local used game shop and my friend was stoked seeing Spidey vs. King-Pin on Sega CD and grabbed it and then I got equally excited when I saw another comic book Sega CD gem directly behind it in the form of Prime that I immediately grabbed. (I'm a huge Ultraverse fan and this was the only Ultraverse game ever made)

I still need to buy the Master System version. The PAL version is cheap and very common. I wish they'd re-release the arcade version, looks great.

I have the genesis version of vs kingpin. I enjoyed the game for the most part. There are better games for the system like he said. Its not a SEGA staple by no means, but fun none the less.

The easy bosses in the sega CD version are sort of comic book accurate. Those are all ways that Spider-Man has defeated his foes. So yea easy bosses make sense :)

The genesis game is one of the most disappointing games I've ever played, not aboslute trash, but it feels as bad as most the LJN games in every mark. The master system port looks BETTER visually to me, and I was almost tempted to get it until I heard the lack of continues. The Sega CD one I definitely need as a fan of spiderman 2000 and it's sequel... The arcade game seems very similar to Maximum carnage, down to the punching sound effects..

It's not really trading hits in the genesis game, each boss has a different way to be fought, for example with the Lizard you need to crouch, stand up and shoot a web, crouch again, repeat

Spiderman makes marvel more money than all other comic characters combined. Thats marvels baby dude. Im NOT exagurating either. why couldn't CAPCOM ever make a spiderman game? would have been so much better. heck i will take technos (the Gods who made the monster arcade hit double dragon) over these garbage companies. overall though these games are just not fun or too hard. BY FAR the most fun (for me) is the arcade game
