Well, it looks like I may have been wrong. An astute commenter pointed out that Commando was developed by Capcom and was released a few months before Trojan on the Famicom.
AWESOME vide6! One of my absolute favorites on the NES, it has such a cool premise and a pretty cool aesthetic, been playing it for decades but never knew anything at all about the history! Thanks for the endeavour!
Trojan arcade is just brutal. So much so, that it's not a lot of fun. I was actually able to beat Achilles by just walking up to him and spamming the sword, thank god. The NES version is far better, and kinda underrated if you ask me.
Yeah, agreed. If I wasn't capturing it for a video, I would have put it down around stage 4. I got a lot of footage of the end of that stage. A lot. Though I actually thought Achilles wasn't that bad in the arcade. Easier than fighting two Iron Knuckles at once, at least. As for the HDCP, I used an HDMI splitter that doubles as an HDCP stripper. This one: www.ebay.com/itm/1-3b-Splitter-Amplifier-1080P-1X2-Split-1-in-2-Out-Amplifier-Dual-Display-HDMI/401343408309?hash=item5d71ee68b5:g:7esAAOSwIjJZOSU5
I also had a splitter lying around, but that one didn't strip the HDCP, so it's not a guarantee. I had to buy this one specifically for that purpose, but it's only ten bucks.
i loved the NES Trojan 1v1 mode... me and my brothers and friend actually had a tournament complete with championship belts! if they included the 1v1 in the arcade it could've spawned the fighting game craze earlier.
Oh yes, the first time i played the arcade version of this game on capcom's arcade collection i thought it was gonna be fun. Then i got my ass handed to me sign seal delivered. Still i like the game.
Passed out the NES game for a rental several times because the arcade game was hard. Ended up liking the NES port after getting it for a few bucks for the very reasons you mentioned here. This would have been more suited to a gritty sequel/reboot instead of bionic commando 2009.
The Capcom Arcade Cabinet is also available on Xbox One via backwards-compatibility this generation. I suggest you pick up a copy . It's very much worth it.
I can confirm that capcom didn't develop the dos port. it was instead made by Pasific data works, who did most of the US computer ports of Capcom games.
Next obscure games will be an unreleased Capcom title? Titan Warriors? That would be great, I've never seen anybody speaking about that particular game anywhere. Obscure indeed!
There was someone who did a video on all seven NES Capcom games with the laser grid boxes, but I can't find it anywhere. Do you know where it is? Also, I thought "Commando" was the first Capcom game for the NES developed by Capcom themselves.
Also, I can't speak for the NES version, but in the Arcade original, the game doesn't truly end until you beat it twice, a la "Ghost ''n'' Goblins". On the second loop, it says "Thank You Very Much. The End."
One of the first Capcom ports of the 16-bit era, eh? Ah, what a good way to put the final touches on this little season. I won't put up a fight regarding that choice. =3 (I am gonna sound so stupid if I got this wrong.)
Oh, that will only be the mid-point of the season! And no fight will be necessary... for the next episode, but maybe... well, I've said too much, perhaps.
