I adopted this song as my personal anthem. Like most I’ve had my battles in life and now at I’m 56 learning that change and learning to forgive yourself is a beautiful thing. I’m so grateful. ❤
This song hits home. I'm a big Tim fan but this version is so much better and more believable. It's amazing, the older that I get the more lyrics to songs like this take on a new meaning. You start to realize exactly what's the true meaning of the song. Great Song!!
I not only like your comment but I also love it and agree with it. I too find it interesting and funny how song meanings change for some as time goes by.
Came here from Tim McGraw's version, but wow. Kershaw nails it! This is a great song that make us all and the world a better place. God bless you Sammy! You really did it!
Such an underrated artist. I’ve seen Sammy at big venues and at a flea market venue. He is a true artist that sings and performs much better than half the big names of his time.
EXACTLY! Just 1 of many reasons I do not listen to the radio, not for round 3 yrs now!!! MAINSTREAM RADIO DONT KNOW SHIT SO THEY DONT GET SECOND OF MY TIME! I KNOW WHERE GOOD MUSIC IS & WHO'S SINGING IT & IT AINT ON THE RADIO
I love this song! It speaks a lot of truth about a lot of us! We as fans need to get Sammy back on top again! I really love his music! He sings a lot a heart felt songs.
l agree with you, indeed Sammy Kershaw is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
Tim McGraw's version is good too but so is Sammy's. I like them both the same but Sammy is certainly due for credit and I don't think he gets anywhere near enough of it.
"I still got a few more dances with the devil" vs. "But I've been sitting out a few more dances with the devil". In my opinion the latter verse completely changes the song. I love it.
Sammy has one of the sexiest deep voices around. He has been treated so unfair by the country music scene.....he is one of the few REAL country stars left....
Sammy's one of the most under-rated singers of all time. His voice is strong, clear and he has a distinctive style - McGraw can't hold a candle to Sammy with voice quality and neither can most other country singers.
This song is one of the best song ever written in my generation.I am 54 years old and heard this song the first week in a 6 month recovery program for alchol and drugs. I waited every day to listen to this song. The words,no matter who sings it,relates to so many of us in society today.I am sober still today, and I tend to remain,as this song can remind me of my past and most of all where I am today.Im cleaning up my act little by little each day.God bless
I’ve been sober since 2011!! It’s hard but I don’t ever want to go back to that life. I’m still in drug recovery but doing great. I wish y’all all the best. Keep it up!! You ain’t alone. God is always there.
l agree with you, indeed Sammy kershaw is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
Yep that's the Man got the voice got the looks and appreciates his fans. That is REAL country music folks. Not modern, new or whatever Nashville calls it now. Love ya keep making us some real country songs Sammy!

What an amazing song by Sammy!!! I've liked his music since he first came on the radio in the early 1990's... A real man can not only face his problems, but talk openly about them!!! God Bless You Sammy, you have the support from his man and his family who love this song!!!
Wow. I haven’t heard this song in probably 5 or 6 years back when I was in high school when Tim McGraw recorded it. It’s crazy that this song has a completely different meaning to me now. I’m only 20 years old but God has been answering my prayers. I’m not as good as I’m gonna get, but I’m better than I used to be. Thanks for the upload. God bless.
Got the chance to see Sammy sing this live a few times. The last time my 17 year old niece was moved to tears by this song. Said she was inspired by Sammy's story and his music. He's a true artist. This version is the best and only version to me.
This version is by far the best, period. Sammy is one of few true country music singers left. The crap made today ain’t country. It’s sad what it has become. I am so thankful to be old enough to have been able to grow up listening to the best country singers ever. And Sammy is one of them. He should have had numerous number ones and sold way more records than he has. Just goes to show how ridiculous the music business is.
I think the diffrence between tims vrson and sammys is. Sammys lived it. You can tell it. Tim hasnt. Tims verson is great and hes doin his best to keep it country. But sammy. Hell man hes lived this song. Its his. Writers new about pain and movin on and thats what sammy has done. Well done mr Kershaw.
Chris Lynn You guys don't know Tim McGraw's history to say he hasn't lived it.. he has. Sammy has his style & Tim has his. Both versions are amazing, they are both very impressive artisit.
Sammy You Have Been Thru Alot since You Lost You're Dad At 12 AND Have'n To Be You're Dad And Try And Provide For You're Momma And Family,And Take On All You Had To Take On,Heck That Would Drive Anybody To Drink..Jones Took You Under His Wing And You Soared Like An Eagle!!Every Song You Sing,You Have Lived It!Love You Sammy,Always Praying For You!Want A Good Woman,I'm Here,I Don't Want Anything In Return.I'll Even Sign For It.God Bless You Love!! God Bless You Too Tim!
well said monica quinonez. we don't know McGraw. don't judge. Although I bet Sammy's had it rough and been very successful despite it all. again just a guess
I love this song. You can here the experience through Sammy. Tim sings a good song but he hasn't lived it. This is an anthem for those of us who have the kind of past that had to be over come.
My God you are the MAN! Have you been following me around documenting my life for song ideas? Come on, Sammy! We need you and George to "fix" country music!
Sammy Kershaw is country. Love everything he does especially "She Don't Know She's Beautiful"......a great memory from a long time ago and my sweet Michael singing it to me. RIP I miss you sweetheart
l agree with you, indeed Sammy kershaw is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
It would be hard to find another singer with a more "Country" voice and style. I don't compare one singer against another - I haven't walked in their shoes. No matter. I DO think Sammy is a credit to the County music tradition. Love that steel guitar....
I remember walking in my grandparent's back door... Morning Gram!!! How ya feeling today.. "Oh... fair to midland"... Took 52 years... but I get it now Gram!!!❤
Sammy Kershaw always has and always will be a true country music singer in my book. He is traditional country and you can feel the song like its supposed to be felt. I wish this version got more play than Tims.
i discovered sammy kershaw when i was about 5 or 6 in the early 90s and loved him then and love him now! i went to a concert, and the usher was telling us how sammy was not feeling well so i wrote him a note that said i hoped he felt better, and he actually took me down to the stage after the concert was over and i got to hand it to sammy. it was such a great experience...i couldnt have been more than 6 or 7
Sometimes I just think to myself " one of the reasons that a particular. Person whether it be. Like it fit them like a second skin it almost felt like this song was written especially with him in mind and it' is Sammy Kershaw after all enough said,
Marilyn, if you tune to radio, you dont have to worry about hearing him at all....they wont play him... Sammy is for real, better than 90 % of what came out of nasville in last 20 years
l agree with you, indeed Sammy kershaw is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
Sammy Is A Great Singer And Songwriter,He Has Lived These Songs..I Know Ole George Is Beside Him Every Time He Gets Up On That Stage,And Smiling!!Love You Sammy!!

I love this song, it hits home for me in many ways... and yes his voice has changed some but true country at its best... Tim's version I also listened to... naw..... Sammy did the song justice... gave it strength, a realness, I am sure it's true to life as the man that's singing the song...
This song touches my soul I am an ADDICT with over thirty years on the streets started at the age of 14s stopped. 1,987 days ago after my FIFTH OVERDOSE. This songs explains the fight I now live n. Thank u. AND. ALL THE GLORY TO GOD .
Love this song. It saved my life last year. I was introduced to Tim's version at first. When I heard Sammy's version I really didn't like it as I was used to Tim's pop version and arrangement. Still listened to Sammy's too and it grew on me because the passion and lyrics of the song have so much more meaning than Tim's. Can't stand the way Tim changed the lyrics. They make no sense. Tim - I still got a few more dances with the devil Sammy - I've been sitting out a few more dances with the devil. Tim - Got a few old habits left. But there's one or two I might need you to help me get Sammy - Got a lot of old habits licked. But there's still one or two I might need you to help me kick. Its because of these lyric changes and the lack of passion in Tim's version that I can't stand to listen to his anymore. Go Sammy.
Hello Gloria 👋 Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face..
I simply love Tim McGraw...anything he sings doesn't take long to grow on me. BUT I HAVE TO SAY, Samm Kershaw's earthy, genuine tone has won my heart over. Hands down...this round goes to Sammy. It's just simply more believable, especially the feeling behind the line "Standing in the rain so long." I just don't think Sammy got the recognition he deserves. He is truly an artist.
l agree with you, indeed Sammy kershaw is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
It's a cryin shame that we don't Sammy on the radio nowadays!! I miss Sammy, Ken Mellons, Aaron Tippin , just to name a few!! Great Song Sammy! thank you for "Keepin it Kauntry" !
