I was little when this song was coming out. I can't believe my parents allowed me to sing this. As I grew up, I realized the meaning and love it even more than I did as a kid
I was 9 and I knew this song word for word pretty much after the first handful of times I heard it,but I had a completely innocent perception of the song, not knowing what it was really about then. Which is probably why my mom didn't care at all that I sang along to it every time I heard it.
I told my new puppy yesterday “don’t go near the water girl”. Then this fucking song played in my head ALL DAY! I woke up thinking about it……so, here I am now 😂 Thanks Sammy 👍🏻 Catchy tune.
Country music has changed growing up I listen to George jones, George strait, Arron tippin, and a lot more of great TRUE COUNTRY MUSIC SINGERS.but now a days it's all about how tight there jeans are and perfect bodies, ITS NOT COUNTRY ANYMORE ...... God bless America.!!!! Bring our true country music back...
George was the only true country music singer you mentioned though. Those other guys are too new and not near same time period as great country music.. love their music . And when you wrote your comment you lacked the sense of common sense.. from the time George Jones and those real greats where singing guys like arron tippin and George straight came in in their verry very tight blue jeans.. cause country change.. it will continue to change. Just cause it's different don't mean it's not country . Just not the country you prefer and are used to
You sure George Strait and Aaron Tippin did not wear tight fitting jeans? The music videos generation not the Johnny Cash, George Jones and Merle Haggard generation.
Man, I remember having this on cassette! Wow, time flies....but this and other artists like Dwight, Trace Adkins, Joe Diffie, Brooks & Dunn, Aaron Tippin The Mavericks, etc....were the country I grew up with.
l agree with you, indeed Sammy Kershaw is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
I remember it being my grandma’s while watching CMT back when you had to have those huge satellite dishes to have access to if since it wasn’t available on our cable channels. 📡
A 7yr old comment and I love that you said this my dude..my mama and I were just talking about this same thing..35yrs old now and it takes me back to a much simpler and happier time..cheers man
My mama always loved Sammy Kershaw, but i didn't realize how right mama could be till i was grown. Ol sammy is solid country GOLD, and if you listen carefully to his voice, at times you'd mistake him for George Jones
you have given them more credit in addition to the other credits they've already received. you've also let strangers that you will never meet know that another stranger they will never meet enjoys listening to some popular singers.
Oldie but a goody bet that Sammy back in the day we played our cassette until it broke and go buy another. You were with us in everything we did wouldn’t have made it with you so Thank you Sammy.
This song came out when I was 12, and really starting to get into Country music. We got CMT and cable TV that year in 1991. I was so happy. And this music was not mainstream, so I felt kind of cool for listening to it. I also loved Suzy Bogguss and many of the other songs at that time.
I love this song!!! It's as good now as it was when it was new. I've got a song, fire in the hay loft, same idea. What ain't being said, is as clear as what is being said. We were all teens once, I sure can relate to this great old tune !!! Go Sammy!!!!

yeah. sadly i wonder if there is any hope left for this country. the economic downturn seems almost impossible to reverse without a civil war or something.
When I was 10 or so my Mother would let me spend my summers with my Aunt in Colorado. I remember when this song came out, she was so much fun. RIP Auntie EllaMae.
I forgot how great Sammy Kershaw's music was/IS! I didn't realize how much I've missed hearing this song and so many others like it of the time! This used to be a favorite of mine for sure, even before I realized it's true meaning, really liked it after I completely understood it's content lol And now it's become something that's filled with nostalgic value & holds fond memories and evokes, feelings & even longing for days of the past! At least it takes me back to the feelings and excitement of just starting to explore and experience life! Part of my the soundtrack to my life's movie, if there were a movie to my life, it'd be on the soundtrack! Lol REALLY happy I came across this song once more, it's been years since I've heard it or any of Kershaw's music and I've traveled so far from those days, farther than I meant to at times! Definitely gonna go revisit the country music greats of the 90s and the songs like this that were charting in the days of my teenaged life, this just made me realize I've been gone too long🤎

TheFizzypop83 put it plain and simply: real country is about real men loving real women. no need to go slapping grandma or talking about someone's ass. that's not country music. that's other kinds of music. i miss the country music from the late 80s through the mid 90s. THAT was REAL country. i'm so glad some internet radio stations have 90s country stations to listen to. GO SAMMY! yer girl's mama really should have been more worried about YOU than some creek water.
Hello🥰 How you doing today I hope you good and coping with the weather? Am using these means to reach out to my lovely and supporting fan of mine and am also using these means to thank you for supporting my career without you all am no one. Thank you for the likes and comment on my page✌✌ Sammy’s Care 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yeah, country is my absolute favorite genre of music, but I had to quit listening to country radio about 20 years ago. Today's country sucks ass, and the singers are talentless.
You got that damn right. Country music is for real people not for assholes. I do the same thing and I too see negative comments on there and the people don't even know who the artist is at all.
you know people have been saying that about the next generation of music since the first person beat on a drum. when they added a second drum - people said it was not as good - get over yourself
Feels like country music just doesn't come close to this anymore, too much punk/rock/rap it doesn't have the same charm as this and yet it's labeled country.
I remember this song when it was still hot off the press riding the radio charts. I was 4 years old riding in the car with my mom country music laid the foundation for my youth in the very early 90s. Very special.
I went and seen a show with Sammy, Colin ray and Aaron tipping this year atthe well theater in Brandon mo. Great show! It way and all acoustic set, but still good. Sammy is my #1 fav country artist and always will be. Catch him live!
If you listen real close at the very beginning of the video, you hear the fiddle come in way in the background, and then the song starts, and you hear the fiddle like you're supposed to. This is a strange phenomenon that's affecting all the old tape reels. What happens is, when the tape is wound up, the information is actually stored on the tape in a magnetic way... when the tape sits for many years, some of the magnetic parts actually magnetize the layer of tape directly under it on the reel. So over years, loud parts of the song (like that fiddle) get copied onto a slightly earlier portion of the tape (1 revolution around the spool back). Just shows that this was copied at some point from a really old tape, I hope they have a master of this great video somewhere so it lasts forever.
