John is a great storytelling individual but tends to sensationalize certain details. The “Bluebirds” was a term adopted from the transport buses CDC used. It was a convict term meaning you've taken the ride and been upstate or on diesel therapy being moved between prisons. When the brand developed it ultimately became a distant memory. Everything started as something and had its evolution or dissolution.

Interesting . Im not doubting your word here at all . However back in the 90s I do recall an old timer that I was in Corcoran with who actually had a blue bird on each shoulder as well as it spelled out ( very poorly ) on his arm . I never inquired because I’m not the inquiring kind but rumor had it as they say . I got caught up in the diesel therapy myself when they bounced us around from down south to up north and back . All in an attempt to keep people from being able to contact the outside world due to what they knew .

Blue birds was a white gang in Ohio prisons even..old heads had blue birds tattooed on them who closed the Old Mansfield and opened the new one...

My dad was in prison in Nevada and Kansas or Oklahoma everyone says his name is J and they called him jaybird and he wants free bird played at his funeral but I still have never met him

I honestly think that these conversations are doing more harm than good for John when it comes to seeing the Parole Board. Especially if they are still asking if he's a member of the Aryan Brotherhood.

He’ll never get parole anyway and he knows it. He knows his last chance is to get his sentence run concurrent. Also they already know all this stuff.

At first..I was confused on if it was actually John G. talking. It kind of sounded like him..but a little different than he does on other interviews. Probably just the quality of the phone line. However, after a few minutes, I heard use his trademark, 'anyhow', line...and I knew it was him. hehe. Listen to a few other Greschner interviews and count how many times he says, 'anyhow'. hehe. When hosts can keep him on topic, he is a great interview...as he probably has more 'prison stories' than any other human alive. But when he gets off topic, he is really hard to listen to.If you can keep him from talking about meditation and yoga...you will be alright!

John said no topic is off limits.. ask him what he thinks about the politics in America right now with Trump and Biden.. will cooler heads prevail? Is globalism or nationalism the future? Prison is a microcosm for world foreign policy.

I see how prison is a microcosm of society and as such is affected by domestic policy. However, with foreign policy, I’m not seeing the connection to our domestic prison systems
