So weird sitting in the Serbian countryside, making a grocery list for Keke Pua'a ingredients, watching a british guy walk through my hood eating foods I miss like Taro hahaha
Haha 😂 that’s absurd! What takes you all the way there? It’s weird how this English man is making a video in Avalon. like he’s exploring the Avalonian valley, searching the secret jewels of the islands. 😂😂
I lived with a Samoan family for about a year as a teenager, and to this day taro done just like that and chicken chop suey are some of my favourite foods. Taro is divine cold too. I'm in Palmerston North but I think a trip down to Avalon in the very near future is in store...
I know how you feel - I'm after the nostalgia kick too. As a pakeha it's been way too long since I have had the Samoan food I was once familiar with growing up.
I love the way you showcase the positive things about NZ and the cultures within. You really do do a great thing for NZ and its people. I'm Australian however I am in love with NZ. It is such a fascinating and unique place and I just cannot get enough. I see myself moving there to be honest.
as a white/island born New Zealander. I can say all Polynesian food are unique in there own ways, as the food is linked to the culture. Some Polynesian cultures probably have some similarities within food, but it all comes down too their unique recipes
So glad you also tried the sapasui (chop suey). My favourite Samoan food. If you get a chance, you need to also try what's known in Fiji as kokoda, raw fish that sort of self cooks in lemon or lime juice, with coconut cream. Other island nations have their own versions too. One of the most amazing and refreshing dishes you'll ever eat.
A tip for next time, try eating the sapasui with the taro together it’s kind of like having rice as a side to stir fry. It’s one of Polynesia’s staple side dishes. It’s a food that would usually accompany a meaty dish. Awesome stuff and keep up the good work 👍🏾
I used to go to the Oasis church over in the Naenae shopping centre. There was a quite strong Samoan community within the church so church potlucks were always like this. I wasn't a big fan of the taro and coconut cream but, the panikeke and chop suey was the best
Here in Australia, Deception Bay Qld is the best Poly food in Australia. Polynesian Sunrise. I have tried everything and it's so good. Lamb buns and Chop suey are my favourite.
Thanks mate, I used to live in Manurewa South Auckland my son moved down to Upper Hutt from North Shore, and with us living in OZ I thought I would miss having Island food unless I drove from Upper Hutt to Porirua. This is awesome, and I always love watching your podcast.
Dude. Samoan food is the best! I lived with a Samoan family for a year and I cannot wait to go down to Avalon to get a good feed. It's been years since I had decent taro.
Wow I forgot all about Avalon. Growing up in the 70's most of the television shows etc were made down in Avalon studios. It always came up at the end of a NZ television show, made at Avalon Studios. That takes me back
This is all making me very homesick. Moved to OZ in 1988. I miss the polynesian culture terribly. I miss the food, the hangi every year. I miss the people. I make raw fish every now and then but the fish here is terribly expensive which is crazy because I live in a seafood industry town. Crayfish etc. Sadly though, I couldn't afford to move back. It is just too expensive there now.
If you check out the channel Kos I Can on You Tube, he shows a bunch of places to eat polynesian food in Aussie. Hope this helps you find some for yourself ❤
Broooo, I think someone forgot to tell you that taro is the Samoan potato…it accompanies roast beef, or pork, or fish..😂😂😂😂😂..you made me hungry..gonna have to go and find a similar shop ..
Aww stop it brother Curls stop it😂😂😊😂I'm glad to see yr a man that loves & appreciate good food & awesome travels & is such a cool friendly guy & gets shoutouts wherever u are in NewZealand🙏✝️
My sister in law is Samoan but never cooked for us a traditional Samoan meal for us. She only eats South African food lol because my brother is from South Africa. So yeah I have no idea what Samoan food taste like. She loves biltong ( dried spice meat) hahahaha.,..next time I visit New Zealand I will give Samoan food a try.
Ive cottoned on to your videos bro and ive very much enjoy them all. I live up the road abit further up and im gonna make a trip to grab some Samoan feast after wat hing this. Been too long since ive had me some, your video has given me the urge for some munchies bro. Fa'afeatai Curls, big Alofa to you my Uso ✌️
Unfortunately my mothers island food not available in Spain 😢 i miss my grandparents they were born in Tahiti and moved to NZ and nothing better than the chow down on island food! ❤❤❤
I am pakeha but grew up with my extended Samoan family. The only food I recognised here was the taro. We had it mostly with curried coconut cream. Where is the sapasui, peasupo and palusami? Those donuts look like a very unhealthy addition to the Samoan diet. Tempted by the bao though I've never tried a lamb one. I'm definitely going to divert and check out this place when I next head into Wellington.
You should try all suggestions that accumulate the most popular place or town or restaurant to visit. Great 👍 video, commentary 👌 and long may last .I just missed you on your visit to avalon. Keep up the good work
You must try Pandan Malaysian restaurant in Melling Road Central Lower Hutt. THE must amazing Asian food. Tell them Louis and dianne sent you. Also, if you want a great pizza come to our home town, plimmerton, and pop into The Big Salami. The train trip is well worth it.
Pork buns came from the asians in the islands but the Samoans make it better. I get them here in Sydney but you pay $5 for literally the bread with not much filling. Gonna make my own I think too. Get some raw fish bro.
Talking about a Brit living here in NZ. Just wondering how the difference is between here and there with racism? No one really talks about it. I know racism is quite prevalent in the UK & of course there's some here to but saying that, I don't really notice to much of it here. I'm not dumb, I know it's here but wonder where is it worse?
