I think one of his previous videos explained his time in Aussie which started out very good but went downhill after a terrible illness. After this harrowing episode curls found his nirvana in Aotearoa, the land of the kiwis. I can appreciate this as curls presents NZ as a restorative place ,the calm after the storm!!!
It seems like appreciation, but I have come to the conclusion he just likes blithely walking into dangerous suburbs or boring towns and raving about them.
this is 100% a public area you are allowed to film there, In New Zealand the filming and photography rules are very clear, you can take photos or film anywhere that the public are aloud unless its a toilet or hospital
Nah mate, your very wrong... Public access is different to publicly owned.. a privately owned business that is open for public access can indeed kick you out for filming.
I think that you will find it's more complex than that. On one hand the indoors of a mall or shop may be considered a public space in terms of photography but it is also a private space in terms of permission to be there. Privately owned spaces (like malls) do not have to allow you to enter or to stay. Provided they don't discriminate (by breaking the provision of the human rights legislation) they can have their own rules about what is banned in their premises. This can include all sorts of things such as photography, skateboarding, swearing, running, clothing rules etc. They can require you to leave their private property if you don't follow their rules.
This was so refreshing bro, rewa gets so much like you wouldn't believe.its wonderful to see.i was born and raised here and currently raising my own children here its really not that bad it's not the same as back in the 90s in early 2000s but there is still no where else I'd rather be. Sorry about the rude security guard some of them are definitely to big for there boots 😂 chur bro I hope you enjoyed your time here in rewa 👍
Simple globalism. It happened everywhere on earth around the same time. No going back now. Probably wouldn’t want it too either, we’d have a very limited supply of expensive low tech goods if it did.
Your positivity is infectious. I wish all Expats/immigrants are like you. Appreciative of our land, culture and adapting to our lifestyle. Keep up the vids! Would love to bump into you one day.
Thanks for the tour Curls .. My Dad's family grew up in Manurewa (His brother still lives there). I have many fond memories visiting my Grandparents place who spoiled me rotten in the 1970's/80's, including visits to a local movie theatre now occupied by several churches on Mach Rd. I think the township went through some tough times in the 00's (after my Grandparents passed away; Probably behind the enthusiastic security guard in Southmall), but it appears to be looking up some from ths video. Great to see the murals - They certainly brighten up the shopping district. Cheers, 🥝🐐
I remember the picture theatre on Maich Road, it's an Assyrian church now. I can't remember all the movies I saw there, but can remember seeing All Dogs Go to Heaven, which nearly had me in tears 😪 lol. Also, do you remember that other little theatre on Great South Road, Papatoetoe? I remember seeing one of the Batman movies there.
Absolutely love your videos. Just spoke to the guard & told him "Bro you cannot kick out a Legend?" 🤦♀️ but anywho await your next video, we must do high tea someday 😉😁
One new years eve about 10 years ago, i was driving around there around 10pm and counted at least 30 working girls scattered about that area standing under lightposts etc. Walk around some of the residential streets at night and you will see girls as young as 12 years old standing outside selling themselves.
South Mall was once a great place to shop, but not any more. Th only thing thats keeping it going really is the New World supermarket. When Manukau city shopping centre opened up that really saw the end of South mall, it is ok but not as good as it was and sadly I missed seeing you.
Even that sushi place in south mall is still there, I was there first customer when they opened in the 90’s and use to hit it up every weekend, glad to see it’s still open.
The barber shops in South Auckland are kind of social clubs. Sometimes famous boxers and rugby league players use them to launder drug money so they can impress gang members who go there.
you gotta find some Māori to cook you a (Hangi) our national dish - earth oven bbq or in a big steamer .wild pork chop /lamb chop /chicken /beef chop/pumpkin/cabbage/kumara/potato/stuffing/ side dishes /cream paua is a abolone chowder /raw fish is a nz sushi dish in coconut cream - coleslaw and a fried bread ..cakes and steamed pudding .. rural nz thats our go the hangi each time there is a doo or a school fund raiser i get me 2 hangi'z ..or (the hangi pit) in Gisborne is good i mix chowder with mac n cheese when i go to gizzy
I remember it in the 80s when I'd go shopping there on a Thursday night, to the fabric store, Farmers, and all of the other amazing retail stores that were there. It's a very different place now.
'Meet the ultimate New Zealand fan, UK RU-vidr 'Curls' - The project (NZ TV program); you have now reached many NZ homes. Another great video as per usual. It's good to let people see/hear the other side of a lot of these places you visit, as they often get a lot of bad press. Kudos to you Curls!
100% I was there first customer on opening day back in the early 90’s, I worked at new world as a teenager and decided to try that sushi stuff for the first time not knowing what it was and because of that sushi shop I became a sushi lover.
manurewa and papakura has had its share in 2017 homeless everywhere and crime fast forward to 2023 with our sports teams rugby league/ rugby/ netball /soccer/and outhers lifting the hearts of the city and their people in manukau now the city has no homeless and on the way to recovery for a better future
I went to Auckland to live and lasted around 1 month. It rained almost every day, cyclone twice, the people are unfriendly and Traffic was abysmal. House and rent prices are through the roof and wages are low. Good luck to anyone that tries to live in Auckland.
Not really, I travelled the world for 7 years and have been to 28 countries and many cities, Auckland is at the bottom of the list of places that I would return . You can have it "Bro" @@mhutch5082
Great videos indeed you have for locations that is and what it has CBD wise Central Business Distric Very good for Geography students in Fiji Islands forms 5 6 and 7 to watch present day New Zealand
Use to live there about 40 years ago, certainly has changed, Southmall was not under cover back then haha. Wouldn't live back in Auckland if you paid me lol
The Fijian food place was an Arcade called Hollywood's back in the mid to late 80s my favourite place at south mall gone but not forgotten good place to get your bike stolen aswell LOL 😀
Stop giving false information. I'm from south Auckland and I think west Auckland is more unsafe. The only region that dethrones south Auckland. Have you ever Ever walked around west Auckland? It's a bloody shitstain.
try walking throught Avondale in Central Auckland wearinf a red or blue hoodie . one thing i hate about Aickland is wanna be gangsters copying american culture who know nothing about the bloods and crips - which is an american thing
Since I grew up in this area in the late eighties and ninties and can remember south Mall opening ,it was a top place to be /shop with all the standard commercial type shops ,but unfortunately it isn't not far away from (10min drive ) Manukau city shopping centre and Mall ,which at the time was the biggest mall in NZ .South Mall didn't take to many years to go backwards and began a third rate shopping spot ,crime went up .The south Auckland rapist was still out doing his thing .
This whole video hes being facetious and it went right over all your heads. The whole point is to show how hard Rewa is not 😂 he taking the mickey as they would say back in his ends
Looking great South Auckland yep Fijiana restaurant there as well Come to Fiji Islands as well tourism places all open again God bless always New Zealand 🇳🇿and Fiji Islands 🇫🇯 both have UnionJack on their flags as both British Colonies
Yeah bro me aswell, I remember all the fafa prostitutes walking around, they must have cleaned up all the prostitues in rewa because I didn’t see one on curls video.
Manurewa used to be a great place to live, but about the late 90s it changed for the worse. I was raised there and I would never return. It has become one of the roughest places in NZ. As for the security guard, they think they are a law to themselves and always break conditions by being to forceful.
I agree about the security guards specially one that used to work at new world. He lost his job, because he assaulted someone, without even asking for the receipt which was in their hand. The products weren’t even sold at New World either.
ManuRewa is Fijian word also Samoan as in Manu Samoa Fijian it is Manuduitagi Kadavu province Rewa means Angry in Kadavu dialect it also is the name of a Province the Rewa Province
