Dans tous les cinéma Pathé Samedi 20 Octobre 2018 19h00 Une superbe mise en scène avec Elina Garanca et Roberto Alagna. Bonne séance (vous pouvez réserver en ligne au besoin) TG
A superlative recording in 1963 with Rita Gorr and Jon Vickers with George Pretre as conductor with the French National Opera company is as they say a Bench mark .EMI France .
I wasn't disagreeing with you. It's just that recently she sang an absolutely sensational Octavian (trouser role) in Rosenkavalier at the Met. Take a look at the reviews. If you want to see it, you can on demand on the Met's website.
May I suggest the complete performance with Jon Vickers and Orelia Dominguez- both titanic voices in a powerful performance, the way these roles were meant to be sung. Available on Opera Rara album. Also the EMI recording with Jon VIckers and Rita Gorr- stupendous, white hot performances with Georges Pretre at the helm. true dramatic voices.
Great pupil of magnificent soprano Virginia Zeani - now 94. Their superb technique goes right back to the Garcia family - Pauline Viardot and Maria Malibran
Anita Rachvelishvili will sing Dalila in next March in the same production. I wish to hear Alagna and Rachvelishvili sing this aria together. He won't sing Samson in March.
Amazing voice, controlled but expressive at the same time, she has everything in her. I would have like a slightly faster tempo so that when requires to stretch it, one would feel more the emotion.
Wow. I think I do like this version better than Anita's. Sound more balanced (Anita is too quiet in the beginning), sensuality is just off the charts, absolutely mesmerizing. Wish this was a longer scene posted.
She was wonderful but it was WAY too overindulgent in tempo and the conductor in an actual full production would NEVER have allowed her to sing it that slow. He say the audience would leave. It would make the evening twice as long.
I watched this on Met On Demand. Of course Elina and Roberto are spectacular, but the staging and directing felt very flat and unexciting to me. The set designs were stunning however, so hats off to the artistic director.
WHY DO THEY ALWAYS HAVE TO USED A CLOSED "E" ON TENDRESSE? (It's ten (nasal) dress then a schwa, not drayss)...i understand it's low in the range so they want more sound but it's not proper French. Before a double consonant, an E is always open.
Fully agree. This is not her role. Not her repertoire. I have heard her singing this piece live. Bearly audible... just for the books - I like her a lot in bel canto repertoire, she has great top notes indeed.
I agree. It's all swallowed or placed in a mask. Very boring to listen to. I've never been convinced by her. Even when I first heard her sing Dorabella at ROH. Very beautiful looking, but that's it. The question is, is she worse than Irina Mishura, Domashenko or Denyce Graves, all of whom took on the role while Borodina was singing at the house? My answer; No!
Absolutely! But don't dare saying anything negative about Garanca! She has her legion of fans who don't know much about opera! Her voice is totally "fake" as a mezzo, and she is anyway no mezzo! Her lower notes are purely grotesque! And BTW Dalila is not an operatic role and it is intended for an ample contralto. Which she is not. But the public is content with that pale Ersatz of a mezzo!
@@georgesclermont1911 I dipped into the Met stream of the complete production last night and was equally horrified. Only Garanca's sumptuous tone and presence made some of it watchable.
@@georgesclermont1911what the fuck is with her wig and her costume and makeup? She looks like a 59 year old Nordic woman trying to be Pippi Long stocking going to her prom
Just saw this on streaming HD. She is just incredible (had seen her in Carmen, Roberto Devereux, etc but here she NEEDS to be sensual and sexy. Alagna is no John Vickers! I thought Zeffirelli's Turantdot was the summum of kitch but this beats it by a mile and then. Dreadful.
wait till next year's headline "Alagna fired because of improper contact on stage with soprano Garanca". This is far worse than Vittorio Grigolo behaviour in Tokyo
I like Garanca normally but she is just terrible in this part...who directed her? She is about as sensual as a dustmop in this scene and he's even more boring. And who decided on the Little Orphan Annie wig for Delilah...honestly this is the MET...can't they come up with something creative?
I don't believe I have ever heard a singer at the international high level who has bored me beyond my ability to articulate properly as Elina Garanca. Anja Harteros is a close second. And yet, I also acknowledge that so many others are so much worse than these two. Sigh.
LOL I soooo agree! She bores me to death, and I don't like her technique and the color it gives her voice. She came up at the same time as Netrebko as her sort of mezzo alter-ego, but her sound is very overrated IMO. However, I absolutely admire her achievements, her commitment, and I also really like her personality. Plus this particular staging seems absolutely spectacular, so "Yay!", I guess?
Bravo Luca OMG the Stalker is back! As a stalking troll, you should see by now that I comment both negatively and positively on vids. Why are you looking for fights with everybody? We're discussing - having an opinion. Don't like it: move on! You're such a weird person, like a fixated crusader! I can't understand why you're trying again and again, under every video, to prevent people from having opinions. It's 1) silly as hell, 2) weird as hell, 3) against the principle of free speech which the Internet, especially RU-vid, is governed by, and 4) not even in the spirit of the Met, who would disable the comments if they didn't want people to express their opinions. Again: get-a-life. Oh, and learn to spell.
@@angelineamaya6832 See for me it's the contrary, I don't mind her personality, but I find her voice unthrilling. But again that's quite personal lol, I don't wanna get "cussed" out over this, as is so often the case in these Met comments, whether you post something good, neutral or bad.
Meh. Nice production, boring singers as usual. At least the Met realised that it has to sell HD tickets and people don't go to the cinema to watch state sponsored Regierubbish.
