This Samsung 7.4 cu. ft. Smart Electric Dryer with Sensor Dry (Model DVE47CG3500WA3) overall is great, as long as you don’t overfill it.
Pros:
-It does a great job drying my clothes and linens (even my king sized comforter) as I would expect from any dryer (that is when it isn’t over-full) but some things that set it apart from other dryers that I would like to point out are the Sensor Dry, quiet, wrinkle prevent, wrinkle release, Sanitize, and most importantly, the SmartThings App.
-Sensor Dry is one of the most promoted features of this dryer, and I love that it helps keep you from over-drying and overheating your clothes which can cause damage. The dryer will stop the dry cycle when it detects that the humidity in the drum is too low. It works wonderfully when the drum isn’t overfilled.
-It is so much quieter than my other previous dryers
-Wrinkle Prevent is a great feature to add to any cycle, I always turn it on. It will turn the drum without adding any heat intermittently for up to 3 hours after the cycle ends to help prevent wrinkles and creases from forming.
-The Wrinkle Release cycle is super convenient and has helped me eliminate the use of my iron. I can throw in a handful of lightly wrinkled items on this cycle and it will help get those light wrinkles out in under 15 minutes!
-The Sanitize cycle is one I take advantage of to make sure all those germs, bacteria, pollen, and mites are taken care of. I use it on things that get gross and I want to be sure to get super clean and disinfected like sheets soiled by children, pet things, bathroom rugs and towels, etc. The items come out smelling and looking so clean and fresh.
-My favorite things about the Samsung SmartThings App for this dryer are dryer control, notifications/ status, home care, and dry recipe.
-I love that I can set up my cycle settings from my phone and send them to the dryer. If the dryer is on and I have Smart Control selected, I can start the cycle from my phone.
-Once I’ve started a dry cycle I can see the status of where it is in the cycle from the app and how much time is left. My phone will notify me when it is done or if there are any changes to the cycle (like if someone stops it).
-HomeCare is very convenient to have because it helps keep my washer in the best working condition possible. I acknowledge that I am notoriously bad at staying on top of this stuff, so I am so grateful that it is built into the app and washer for me. It notified me when it was time to run a self clean and will let me know if there are any other maintenance issues. I love that it also has usage guides and instructional steps on how to clean the pump filter and will notify me when that needs to happen.
Cons:
-While Sensor Dry is one of the best features of this dryer, it can be a big pain if I have too big of a load of laundry and overfill the dryer. I will find that my items are not dry enough when I go to take them out. The dryer will stop the cycle when it detects that the humidity in the drum is too low, but they are always just too damp (especially clothes in the middle) and I need to run it again, but it still detects the humidity as too low and stops the second cycle too soon. So it is a battle to get it to dry them to the dryness I desire. The best way I’ve found to get around this problem when I overfill the dryer is to run the dryer on whatever cycle I need with wrinkle prevent turned on, then when I get the notification that the cycle is over, push the Time Dry cycle to the dryer for 20, 40, or 60 minutes to get it dried all the way.
-The only options for the Time Dry cycle are 20, 40, and 60 minutes, I wish the max time was higher, and more flexible.
-The capacity is large enough for my king sized comforter, but it couldn’t handle my king sized mattress topper unfortunately. If you want to be able to dry a fluffy 3 inch king-size mattress topper you will need bigger capacity.
-If you aren’t tech savvy, setting up the SmartThings app and getting it all figured out may be a bit challenging. I’m thinking of someone like my mom who struggles with tech, she would have a hard time setting it up on her own and looking through all the customizable settings and features. The simple things are relatively straightforward, but digging deeper to fully take advantage of all the functionality available to you can be confusing and may require extra assistance.
-While I appreciate the functionality of a reversible door and consider that a pro, the process was a con. It wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to do and it took longer than I expected to do.
Overall, I am very happy with this dryer and would recommend it if you are interested in a wi-fi smart dryer with a fantastic app and can refrain yourself from overfilling it to take advantage of the sensor dry functionality. I was able to purchase this dryer at a discount through the Samsung Laundry 2023 Insiders campaign in exchange for my honest review. I hope you found this helpful.
