My Samsung 980 Pro 2TB that I've been using for my PS5 for about 2 years just died on me. I would like to buy this 4TB one, but I'm really scared to pay so much money for something that might die as well. It's funny, I'm constantly reading that SSD are supposed to be SOOOO much more reliable than HDDs with moving parts, and that they're supposed to last SOOO much longer, but I've never had a HDD die on me, whereas I've had nothing but trouble with SSD USB sticks and hard drives, and now the dead 980 Pro. Maybe I'm just unlucky, or maybe it's all a big lie that is designed to get us to buy SSDs, even though they're in fact less reliable.
@@hustlemoney505 Yes, I did. It wasn't one that was built-in, but I still got a heatsink. And my PS5 is placed on top of a TV-unit and has cooling space up to the ceiling. Plus I open in up several times a year and dust it with an dust-blower for electronics. Anyway, I would buy a 4TB SSD with a built-in heatsink this time around, if I only knew that the damn thing would work for half as long as my still perfectly working PS1 memory card from the late 90s.
@@PoletBallyI read that 4tb still doesn’t have a heatsink so you gonna need to buy it from a third party, why not buy 1tb or 2tb one with heatsink? That way you don’t expend too much money in case it fails again, also is not like you are going to use the 500games you gonna store in it, just saying.
Beautiful video as always…. I’m still debating between this one and the Seagate Firecuda 530 (both with heatsinks) for my PS5. Which one is the best??? Please, if you haven’t done it already, do a head to head between these two!!! Or you can straight out tell me which one is the best and I’ll get it.
I was debating on the same 2 drives, From what I hear and read, The Samsung 990 pro is the fastest Gen 4 on the market, Slightly faster than the FireCuda by 2 seconds, But the FireCuda is reliable with less issues, I went with the FireCuda 530 4TB, It will arrive on Tuesday.
@@monroethegreat7539 yeah, I’ve done a lot of research about this. The 990 Pro seems to be the more “advanced and better performing” SSD of the two and I have to admit that it is the one I like the most (aesthetically wise), I’m kinda leaning towards the Firecuda still. The firmware on Samsung products have been a rollercoaster the last couple of years while Seagate has been going strong and stable. We’ll see what I’ll end up with.
What is the the best SSD FOR PS5 PRO IN 2024, in terms of using its 120hz mode for large games like CALL OF DUTY AND BATTLEFIED. What's the best drive to get for PS5 the Firecuda 530 1TB is still great but we need 2TB OPTIONS NOW IN 2024.
Just bought this with the Sabrent ps5 heatsink, so happy having storage like this again for a good deal because of prime day. Used to have a 4tb hd for the ps4 but it died on me, and having 4tb ssd now is relieving lol. Hopefully doesnt die
I just bought the 4tb as well for ps5. I took the amazon cooler for 11$ double sided which is overkill here and apparently can reduce the temp from 10C to 30C. Some people said they get reduction by 30C. I haven’t install it yet. We will see.
@@ananijedzankic i bought the samsung 990 pro 4TB without heatsink at good price and i installed it into my 11$ cooler double side bought on amazon. It works great. The ps5 does not overheat. I think the ps5 is cooler. It moved 3 big games i had at 7 GB/sec write. The read test after format was over 6,5 GB/sec. It is super fast. I was terrible at the install because i have parkinson, and at one moment i could not find one of the plastic cover of the thermal pad, and i thought i leave it on it. So i removed the disc immediately after the move and the disk was very cool. I think it works better than i thought but i am very bad now to do even a simple operation in an hardware. I found the missing plastic right after unmount everything. I reinstalled the disc for nothing. To not take any risk i used the replacement thermal pad on the top as the ssd is single sided. With the emotion and my shaking body i also didn’t shut off the console correctly and i the ps5 had to do a repair. What a mess i am ! But it is all my fault. The samsung 990 pro 4 tb and the cooler are very good. Now i play several days at red dead redemption and it load faster. I tried tlous part 1 ps5 and jedi survivor and these load very fast. No issues at all with the console it runs cool. Now i free nearly all the embedded ssd, i kept only the small game lego starwars, rachet and clank and sackboy and i keep it for the media, all the big games were moved on the 4tb samsung. The production date was late october 2023 so i didn’t install it in my pc to update the firmware, with my ability i would have messed my pc as well.
Upgrading from 1TB M.2 SSD to 4TB. Anyone know of the simplest way to copy or backup everything on the old SSD to the new one? Not looking for fastest method or one that requires extra computers or copier devices-I don’t care if it takes a long time. I have the new SSD and a USB M.2 case. I don’t want to do a bunch of swapping around. Worst case would involve another USB HD to plug into the PS5 as an intermediary bridge in the whole process.
Even though you installed this without a heatsink you wouldnt recommend prolonged use without one would you? I'm thinking of getting this drive as its being offered with a free heatsink anyway and samsung are vurrently running a cashbsck promotion (£80) for this drive.
any speed above 6500 is not needed. maybe in a future update. but its like 1 or 2 seconds difference in loading times. get one with good heaksink and memory size that you need. and bigger TBW,its like how many total times the ssd can read and write in its lifespan
@@kindajali never bought ssd's and looked into this stuff. I'm looking at samsung 990 pro, firecuda and kingston renegade fury. All a lot higher then the cap you mentionned. So it's best to go for the cheapest out of them with heatsink if i only use it for ps5 i assume? And does the cap go higher with future updates?
@wasssyup i think future update allow 8TB? not really the speeds.. just get one with good heatsink and higher TBW its total times it can rewrite like lifespan
Do I need to save all my data before installing? New to hardrive game. I have an external hard drive available for storage but also want to upgrade my internal storage.
The PS5's PCIe 4.0 has a bottleneck obviously that's why we're not seeing 7500MB/S speeds. The pro 980 gets 5500MB/S speeds So is the 1000MB/S increase worth it? One should buy accordingly.
I get over 6500 MB/sec read and it copied the 3 big games at around 7000 MB / sec. The 990 pro 4 TB is crazy fast. And yes the ps5 is the bottleneck here, but at this speed it is already overkill. The ps5 is very good. I was an xbox and pc guy but that is the past, i am impress by the ps5. I simply put the ssd in a cheap 11$ cooler bought on amazon few month ago but not used it yet. The samsung 990 runs cooler than the 980 and it is single sided so even more easily to keep it at low temperature. The disc was very cool at the touch after moving 350 GB. ( yes i uninstall it and hold the cooler so i can say it stays super cool)
FYI For the 980Pro you can do a firmware update and get a significant boost. I got like a 5.5-5.6gb when I tested it first. However, I read about a firmware did the firmware update and got the speed to increase to 6.2gbs. However the 990 it seems you dont need an update and its speed out of the box seems to be between 6.5 and 6.6gbs and also comes with an option that goes up to 4tb while the 980Pro is limited to 2tb.
Not overkill at all. I’ve seen reviews where games load 10 seconds or faster that’a a big difference. Factory drive takes 10-12 seconds longer than a 990 pro in Spiderman Miles for example.
@@thepsychedelicmicroscope4688 Did you watch this video. All loadings and gameplay is the same on both stock and 990 on the PS5. I think you are talking about PC..
No, your WiFi is the connection between your console and your router. Your internet speeds from your ISP affects your downloading of games. None of the above affects transferring games internally
I really like your videos regarding the Ps5. Do you think it would be possible to test these products: - G-STORY PS5 Cooling Fan - Artic PlayStation 5 Cooler I really enjoyed your videos on DBrand plates and I would like to have a similar test for these two products.
I have the kiwi ps5 tripple fan thing that clips onto the back and it does make a difference in heat my friends stock ps5 gets warm all the way until the front but my ps5 barley gets warm on just the back inch of it by the cables highly recommend you look into it it was like 30 bucks
@@DrezTheGOATapparently you need a pc with pciexpress m2 extension card (with old 1 slot motherboard like mine) or using an available gen 3 or 4 slot on the motherboard. You don’t need to format. Sony should have created an api to show and update firmware by connecting to a certified sony drivers site.
not really and what Seagate is achieving is a bit doubtful.... but honestly I still have old smaller SSDs since 2018 and they saw a lot of writing and still are far from the smaller TBW advertised... Then again 530, 990pro and others of similar caliber have a lot of tbw they can tolerate, some manufacturers (like Samsung) just prefer to guarantee for a smaller number on a better safe than sorry principle.
@@RFerreira2009 not great, not bad. overall for the last 6 years or so, best for reliability have been Samsung and WD. Samsung is not always fastest, but out of the 11 samsung ssds in my family, all have 0 problems... of course all are still under the TBW..... I used to be a Seagate fan back in the HDD days,
Hi, maybe someone can help me, do you think is better for the PS5 the version of 990 PRO with the heatsink that comes with it or the 990 with the elecgear heatsink? Thanks in advance for your help
I was wondering the same thing but I see no videos on this exact scenario. I ended getting the 990 pro with heatsink and the Graugear heatsink cover so basically two heatsinks working together. Still don't know if the elecgear would be cooler.
@@chrisd5758 I ended removing carefully the heatsink that comes with the 990 pro and install the elecgear in the PS5, no issues so far. Maybe later we can see someone that uploads a comparison of heat in that scenario
I bought the 4TB and put it inside a cheap cooler i bought on amazon months ago. It runs super fast and cool in the ps5. I didn’t updated the firmware as the production date was late October 2023. So it is very recent firmware.
I just ordered the 990 pro without the heatsink, thought the heat control meant it had one. Is temperature still an issue or should I return it after it arrives and get the one with the heatsink?
Cheers for watching. Just put together a guide on it. Fairly low cost and I am adding this to the end of a video coming soon - nascompares.com/custom-ps2-design-build-for-the-playstation-5/
I just put on in my ps5 except it's the 2TB version from start up logo to main screen took less than 5 seconds very fast compared to the normal hard drive
The m.2 does not effect the loading of your console from boot to homes screen, all the main system software is stored on the Ps5 ssd and can not be moved to a aftermarket ssd that you installed, only games and apps can be moved or installed on the new m.2
