Curiously being quite a novice to NAS devices but quite interesteed in them, do these, or will these come with some turnkey solutions wih TrueNAS, UNradi, HEX OS ?, or some other OS options for someone who wants to get startedin deploying a NAS and reduce the compty to do so?
I would HIGHLY advise anyone following this guide to stop and not go further, running via the synocommunity package has tons of drawbacks, including inability to easily backup metadata / jellyfin setup, and inability to get most recent jellyfin updates. I'm currently in a world of hurt now trying to migrate to docker, I wish I never ran it via this synocommunity package.
Excellent analysis. All your videos are deeply analytical and useful. This is one of my favorite channels. Just a small side comment: please try to place the microphone on a stand that doesn't touch the desk (I assume this is the case). Every time you hit the desk (which happens quite often), it creates a low-frequency thump that can be somewhat annoying at times.
A simple Conversion for that last bit "the high bitrate jellyfish video" if you had a 30 Second clip at 1GB then a full 2 Hours video at the same bitrate = 240GB I doubt even the master is going to be that big if we are still talking about 4K and that jellyfish video is bigger than 1GB so we are closer to 300GB if it was two hours long.
I bought a TS-464 and it won't connect to the internet. Ticket submitted. The internet would be handy for updates, apps etc., other than that wouldn't want it on the net.
Honestly here, you're comparing apples and oranges. An NAS does not typically have high performance high heat producing CPUs. The backplane and hotswapping is what an NAS is all about. The old ass Node 804 needs an update with a backplane and then, only then, is it a true NAS case. Time, past time, to get on it Fractal. Storage. Storage. To use your emphasis, is what an NAS is about and the Jonsbo has it all over the Fractal in that respect. Oh yeah, you claim the Jonsbo N3 is nearly twice the price as the Node 804, I have no idea where you're shopping (AliExpress?), the N3 is typically about $170 and the Node 804 is about $130 on Amazon, I don't shop ever at AliExpress for some very sound reasons. Maybe in the UK that's not an issue. I'm not sure how your math works or the price in £. The bottom line, unless the case has a hard drive backplane it is not an NAS case no matter what the manufacturer labels it. Without one it is simply a small case that holds a lot of 3.5" hard drives. Personally that's about useless for an NAS.
Hi I just purchased this ssd to replace my failed Samsung pm981a 1tb that came in my acer predator helios 300 was it a good idea or should I exchange it for a better one
Looks amazing. Been looking for a case, and while the Define 7 XL was looking like the best choice, i like the sizing on this one far more. Definitely gonna wait on my first NAS build for this to come out!
This drive sucks. Every single game crashes The game mode is so stupid I can't even believe it if game mode is off game stutter if game mode is on games crash Rtx4090 i9 14900ks Rog Maximus Apex motherboard I have a 980 pro Samsung and every time I suffer from crashing problems on the WD black I transferred the game over to the 980 and it works and doesn't crash I'm sending the stupid drive back to Newegg Piece of garbage do not buy Tried tested and true okay maybe I have a faulty drive But my Samsung drive wasn't faulty I'm had it with this stupid WD black 8 50x garbage
All my fave's! Glad that you all agree. I'm. I'm in what I feel is a similar frame of mind... It's why I went to a HV containerized version. I'm really REALLY hoping that they improve their hardware. If so, I absolutely plan to change over to a physical device and support the company. Hopefully they focus their energy back to enthusiasts and away from enterprise. Great quick video 👍
00:02 The video discusses the advantages and drawbacks of u.2 SSD drives. 02:22 U.2 and U.3 SSD drives offer the benefits of PCIe-based storage while also having the larger storage capacity of 2.5-inch SATA drives. 05:01 U.2 SSD drives offer larger capacity and enhanced performance 07:33 U.2 SSDs offer better dissipation and durability compared to M.2 SSDs 10:03 U.2 and U.3 SSD drives have become incredibly affordable. 12:37 U.2 and U.3 SSD drives are more expensive due to their enterprise-level appeal. 14:59 Buying u.2 SSDs in small quantities can be challenging and costly 17:11 U.2 SSD drives require powerful CPU and memory for optimal performance 19:19 Consider limitations in bandwidth and cost before buying U.2 SSD drives. 21:07 Announce Compares can help with choosing the right data storage
It is strange considdered the already rather large size of casing that they havn't designed it a bit wider so it could support a normal ATX mobo. other than hosting cabled brackets that connects to a smaller perifery connector somewhere on the mobo, there is like no Micro ATX boards that actually supports 5 onboard pci-e expamsion slots. There simply isn't space on them for placing them. It's like they have taken a standard ATX backplane design and just thrown the hard disk bays onto it and noone bothered to think how usefull it would have been if the case actually could fit a standard ATX mobo
I've bought cables and ethernet adapters from them before. I think they're here to stay and will eventually catch up to the rest and possibly surpass them.
This does not work on QuTS hero. How do I do this on QuTS hero. I have 2 disks in RAID 1 and added another disk (same size), but the option to expand is not shown. How does this work on QuTS hero. I can't find any info on QNAP for QuTS hero.
Synology is known for providing software updates and support for their products for a significant period of time. However If there are concerns about Synology potentially stopping support for their products my question is should I buy?
I don't usually comment, but I've been a big fan of your videos for a while, and earlier today i installed two Noctua fans into my DX517 due to the warmer weather round the corner, and my NAS and extension sat in a cupboard - instant improvement in drive temperatures. It wasn't absolutely critical for me, but i still feel better knowing they're staying cooler, more efficiently - will do the main unit next month. Thanks for the walk through! Will do the velcro mod when i can afford bigger drives!
