In the last 5 years class-action lawsuits have been file against MBs for: 2021 cracked screens 2020 green screens 2019 connectivity 2018 keyboard 2017 thermal throttling Have you every heard her (or any other tech reviewer) mention these class-action lawsuits?
I'm a 30+ year Professional Graphic Artist. When some say that there aren't Professional Visual Arts apps on android, it's just really incorrect, because I use them everyday. Autodesk Sketchbook, Painter, Concepts, are just a few of the apps available on the Google Play store... There are many more... Are there a few apps available on iPad that aren't on the Play store? Yes, of course, but a good carpenter never blames his tools, and with expertise and talent you can do anything and everything on android apps that you can do on iOS apps - NO DOUBT.
The S-Pen is fantastic and FREE in the box. You don't need to add a paper-like screen protector ($40) in addition to the $130 you'll pay extra for the Apple Pencil... Another one of the GREAT features of the Tab S7 Plus is the addition of a little app called SuperDisplay. It works absolutely great with Windows 10. It basically replaced my Wacom Cintiq as my main Photoshop editing device. It's higher resolution, wireless, lighter, portable, and the S-Pen might be even better...
I got the 8GB RAM/256GB SSD Mystic Navy it was $356 from Samsung with a Tab S4 Trade-In I got off ebay for $175, they gave me $400 trade-in credit, so my total cost from Samsung for the Tab S7 Plus was $531. I added the book cover for $50 and an iclever bluetooth keyboard for $25. $606 total... If you're already entrenched in the Apple 'eco-system'... Then pay the extra $500 to $1500... But guess what, the Tab S7 Plus supports HDR10+ and has a 120Hz refresh rate, so your covered.

There are actually a lot of drawing apps on Android, I don't know if RU-vid reviewers just ignore those apps or they don't know they exist. There are apps like Krita, Infinite design, Autodesk Sketchbook, Ibis Paint X, Medibang, Artflow, Concepts... I could really go on and on. Sure some of them are not as great as the likes of Procreate, but I do find that some like Infinite Painter are on par with them, and I even do prefer it over Procreate. The only real extra feature that I don't see is the frame by frame animation feature (but then again, not a lot of people care for that). And some of these apps if not all are also available on the iPad. When it comes to drawing or sketching Procreate, Affinity and Adobe are not the only options. There's are even better options out there and they're cross platform too.
Krita and ArtFlow are very capable art apps on Android, as are some others. Sure, Procreate is great, but there are decent alternatives available for Android.
Krita 5 is quite amazing, deep, stable, completely free, and available on Windows, Android, Mac . . . But not iOS. Artflow is also fantastic if you want a more streamlined UI, but still have layers and decent advanced capability.
I use Artflow and Autodesk Sketchbook mostly... Krita , Medibang and ClipStudio are awesome Photoshop like alternative on Android... Hopefully I can get my hand on the S8 Ultra for more drawing real estate screen...😁🙃...
These are such amazing devices. I bought the Galaxy Tab S7+ when it came out and have loved it. I am feeling tempted to jump on this, but my wife thinks it is too early to upgrade because the 7+ is still working perfect without hic-ups.
Whenever my brain / youtube recommendations do this to me when i dont technically need an upgrade, I convince myself a feature on my current device that didnt show up in the upgrade will DEFINITELY be on the next one. :p idk if that helps or not hahahahaha

if you see a good deal (like 2-3 weeks ago) i would say jump on it because samsung gives trade in values higher than what most people actually paid + in the future, the S8+ will get higher trade in value than your S7+.. then you get more years of updates.. it's win win really. let samsung eat the cost/margin, not you.
*Unpopular Opinion:* 380 nits brightness on a premium tablet meant to be used everywhere is extremely underwhelming. I really wish the screen was brighter - at least 600 nits full-SDR and 1000 nits peak-HDR, especially because all the content I watch nowadays is mastered in HDR10.
Yes, I have the Tab S7+ and would not recommend to anyone that intends to mainly use it outdoors. It is pretty poor due to max nits and that reflective display.
Except you're using the tablet constantly under direct sunlight, it's more than legible. Then again, I don't see how anyone would be using a tablet or any device constantly under direct sunlight.
I have an S7 Plus so basically the same as the S8 Plus. Not sure why reviewers feel that the 16x10 screen is "not so great for productivity." Practically every laptop and computer monitor is 16x10! The Surface line has a 3x2, equivalent to 15x10 so hardly different. Have had a Surface Pro for many years. The iPad Pro 12 is just super awkward and not very tablet like at all with its big more squarish screen. Very two handed. That's the main reason why I went for the Samsung, still has a big screen but much more manageable. Open up Krita and put all the UI menu stuff on the left side. You still have plenty of room on the right for your drawing. Pretty ideal imo.
Right, I was thinking the same. That was a very strange statement by her. The iPad Pro I have is so unsuitable for multitasking. I end up with one decent window for my book or webbrowser and then a small window for my notes app. When I make my notes app large enough to work with, the other window becomes unusable. The Samsung is much better for that. Also for my drawing canvas indeed never has to room I need, due to menus getting in the way. I’ve got the feeling she’s saying because she’s biased towards Apple products.
It blows my mind that ipad can't do something so basic and necessary like properly transfering files within the tablet. Apple really just wants you to buy an ipad AND a macbook
In med school i had in ipad because it was in the house. It was cancer but was nice to read and advance in presentations or homework. Then i switched to samsung, not pc because battery and oled screen. It's amazing. Dex has it's limitations but is enough for text editors and study. Also there's a lot of usb c dongles that make it feel like a pc with a proper file explorer. Not to mention that there's morrowind in android and many emulators. And can download torrent with a massive external SD.
One point ill note you mentioned with Dex youd like a different aspect ratio, I have the ultra and maybe its the bigger screen size but they all seem to fit and be usable just fine. A 4:3 ratio would make that one worse in alot of ways
I disagree about the software, and I am a bit tired of this being presented as an issue. As a artist myself I find Infinite Painter, Art Rage, Sketchbook, and Clip Studio to name just a few that will fit the needs of artists on Android. Clip Studio paint is actually around $25 a year. There are also other smaller graphic programs that work quite well. Other than that complaint Lisa, great review as always.
Infinite Painter definitely deserves way more publicity. Krita, Capcut and Flstudio too. Its a shame that Samsung dropped their Linux on Dex functionality after the S10 - Blender and Gimp etc. would have been awesome with a bit of optimisation

Great video. What dissapoints me the most about the folio keyboards (Microsoft Surface, and iPad Pro Keyboard included) is that you pay $350+ for these keyboards and they don't support Bluetooth. How many of us tablet users like raising the tablets up on a tablet stand for better ergonomics but then have to purchase a separate Bluetooth keyboard to work in this fashion. If only these awesome keyboards worked while disconnected! Why didn't they think of that???
You can buy any bluetooth keyboard from logitech or any other manufacturer on amazon. Pair it up with the tablet and youre good to go. The only thing youll be missing is the samsung functions but you can get around that in other ways.
@@gailenrique2804 That's what I do now. My point is if the portfolio keyboards were also Bluetooth compatible, it would prevent us from having to purchase TWO keyboards.
@@EricAcevedo yes but most people dont care for the official samsung keyboard cover because of the $229 price. Yes it may have the function keys but why spend that when you can buy universal for $30-$100 and get the same results?
After much consideration, I ordered the standard S8 version. I like the smaller portable size. Hopefully you will review the S8 as well. I feel that almost all reviewers on RU-vid have gone straight for the S8 Ultra or even the S8+ but have bypassed the smaller one.
@@bearpoopington1157 I disagree. The LCD is just as good and in fact brighter. There is little benefit of OLED as there is no anti-reflective coating and the mini led iPad even has deeper blacks! It also gets 13.5 hrs (tab s7) battery life compared to just 7hrs (tab s7+)
@@crazyforiegner2 do you think with the S7 and S8 screens we won't have LED burns? I have a Galaxy Note 9 for 3 years and got the LED burn about a year ago.
@@hans6304 lcd's shouldn't burn usually, if something goes wrong it's mainly stuck which can be often easily fixed, and if a pixel is dead which is rare for high end displays it is a faulty display and should be covered by warranty. To be said, all my life time I've had 2 dead pixels in a cheap monitor I have that has been in use for 9 years now.
About Clip Studio Paint, you only have to pay 25 usd anually for the Pro, or 72 usd for the EX version. It is really worth it if you want a serious painting tool with desktop UI.
I am more worried about outdoors use as my Tab S7+ is not great in that context and I default to my iPad now and the Tab S7+ is more for home use. It needs higher peak brightness and a decent anti-glare display. Matte screen protectors tend to create more issues than they fix.
Or just get Krita, then you get a full desktop version, but on the tablet. Not to mention for free. If you're just using the tablet, then Sketchbook or Medibang might suit people's needs. No subscription needed. I mean, why would we or should we pay a subscription for software that isn't changing month to month?
Great review, and I really appreciate the unbiased takes you did. Ive watched alot of Tab S8 and ipad reviews and most have some level of bias one way or the other. Actually mostly about how good a tablet is for a youtuber which is out of normal persons use case. So yours being the anti of those videos was very nice. None of these devices are perfect, they are all pretty good in the end though.
Lisa, always enjoy your reviews, but I get tired of hearing about lack of Android optimized apps. It is surprising the lack of optimized apps for My iPad Mini 6, including the horrible scaling.

At about the 10 minute mark, Lisa mentioned the "vertical market ", I am assuming that she was thinking of the people that use the tablet in places like retail stores to write orders, verify product placement, etc. As a tablet user I can not over emphasize the importance of a high quality camera lens and software combination. Often the reports being done require several photos of both normal and wide angle shots, plus the ability to focus in on the hard to read bar codes on store shelves. Even a "minor" upgrade in lens quality and/or software can give a better experience and ease our daily work life. I have been using tablets for work purposes ever since the 1st iPad was released. The company I worked for issued a new iPad to every field rep within months of it's release. I have been a confirmed tablet user ever since. The ability to have access to the latest information without having to carry around several different folders is a real time saver. Just saying that there are many uses for tablets where, watching videos, playing games,etc are not the primary reason for purchasing one.

Only reason I'm considering it is Notes/books for University as I tend to have a lot of math to do, too. For that this aspect ratio is much more note book like + better for videos. Though if I get it I might use it in landscape mode even for notes, too, since I could put a doc/book in split-screen.

The camera follow feature was actually on the Xbox Kinect before it was on Apple. In the video you stated Apple started it first - but really it was Microsoft.
When you use youtube app and click a keyboard key the tablet interpretates that as a gesture, thats why it looks kinda blurry. Thats why I recommend when that happens just close and open the youtube app again
I'm watching this on my S8+! It's definitely an expensive premium buy, but a great upgrade from my S5e 😅 On par (same processor) with my S22 Ultra, so I love this for games and media consumption.
This is a video about the S8+. Why are you showing the regular S8, especially when doing comparisons with the iSlab. The screen looks so washed out, it's misleading.
I don't really see the hype about the ultra. Too big for me, this one is perfect. Has the same features as the ultra except for the extra camera. Got it preordered!
Android just still isn’t there yet for tablets; despite the UI being fairly compact, using one of these still feels like using an iPad back when its UI was just big iOS.
Looking to buy the Galaxy S8 plus Tab. The only thing holding me back is a functional webclipper ( as in Windows ) which can give me simplified articles of web news. Any app which can give me that?
As per usual - Fantastic review. I am in love with all the bells and whistles that these tabs provide but I am stuck. I have a surface and a kindle Fire. The surface does all the hard grunt but the battery gets eaten up when I use it for video as well so I have the kindle fire. It is a 10-inch which is great and runs all the media and entertainment I need but it is not as good as a Galaxy Tab and it does not have the full Android. Buuuuuut. It cost me about one-EIGHTH of the price of one of these. ONE EIGHTH. These galaxy tabs are just so pricey ....or... The Amazon Fire tablets are just so cheap. (HEaven help you when they are on a deal like black Friday when they go for pennies) If I need a PC I have to get a PC so I have my SUrface but if I want to relax and get entertained I have the kindle fire but it is simply nowhere near as good as one of these tabs -but it DOES do the job. I want one but cannot see how it would help so I am stuck watching your videos - and they are great haha. What do you suggest for people like me in this predicament? For the price of one of these, there are very capable 2-in-1 PCs - Asus just put one out - What do you think is a good approach to this?
It's extremely reflective, which makes it look washed out. We lowered our studio lights, changed angles but there was no way around that glare. In person, in moderate or low light it looks better.
@@mobiletechreview watching netflix on my Tab S8 is kinda painful tbh. there's significant "black crush" and the black levels are way too low and the screen is very reflective even with just evening/dinner lighting. i'm usually staring at myself or something behind me even with about 500 nits of brightness blasting my eyes
miniLED is far superior to OLED on tablets at the moment. In fact, OLED on tablets outdoors are pretty bad and def a poor choice. The miniLED has far better HDR and SD max brightness and a better anti-glare display to stop the blacks being washed out by reflections. Samsung said in an interview that most Tab users are just watching media at home so they have designed them to fit that flow. Apple has made them for all user cases.
