This is normally a music channel, but our ice maker broke and I figured that people might like to know how to save about $700 over having a repair man fix it. If you choose to replace the ice maker itself, it will cost you about $120. If you choose to do the process in the video, it will cost about $15. You shouldn't do the repair unless you are confident in your skill, or are at least somewhat advanced at repairing things.
If you want to do it the easy way and get a brand new unit, the part number is: SAMSUNG DA97-07365G
Amazon link: amzn.to/3SRPr0y
If you want to replace the thermal fuse, the part is: Thermal Fuse Cutoff TF 102 Degree 250V 3A A1-3A-F
Amazon link: amzn.to/46H6HxU
Saving money is always a good thing, so I hope you find this helpful.
The amazon links are Amazon Associates links, and I get a small commission if you buy from Amazon.

Thanks for the video. I was seconds away from buying a whole new unit, but got the ice maker to make ice, but not dispense just like everyone else. Had the whining noise of the tines trying to get stuck ice cubes loose. I never knew there was a heating element in the ice maker, but I did always wonder why my ice was wet and now I know why it sticks together. 🤪 I got the fuses, soldered them together and now we have ice flowing. Thanks again!!!

Thank you sooooo much for this video! Ours had the exact same issue and the new fuse fixed it. Unfortunately I tried searching on RU-vid and Google first and could not find anyone describing my problem. I was 2 seconds away from buying an entire unit when I was reading through Amazon reviews and found your comments and the link to this video. Thanks again 👍

Thank you so much for this helpful video! Right before Christmas, our ice maker stopped working. All I could find were diagnostics and instructions on resetting the ice maker. After resetting the ice maker, the ice was still stuck. I used a heat gun to warm the tray enough to force the ice out. However, the ice maker still wouldn't function properly and continued to get stuck. Your video came to the rescue by demonstrating how to remove the ice maker, revealing that the thermal fuse was the problem. After replacing the fuse, it's now working perfectly again. Thank you once more! Your video was incredibly accurate and helpful.

Thank you so much for this video and identifying the thermal fuse as a possible issue for the ice maker not working. I watched a dozen+ videos on my Samsung icemaker and not one of them touched on an internal Thermal fuse as the culprit. I was able to bypass the fuse "temporarily" only to rule out the icemaker itself as the issue then ordered new fuses thru your link. Thanks again!!

Man, this was my exact problem. The gears were working so hard against the ice that some of the teeth got stripped. Too bad I didn't see this video before I got rid of my OE unit. Now I'm trying to repair my aftermarket unit, made in China.

My ice maker stopped working; it would not dispense ice but it was present inside the unit. I watched this video and was able to fix it at minimum cost! It turned out the temperature fuse was bad, exactly as this video described. I tested it and did not have continuity between its terminals. I went to eBay and found the replacement in China, so I bought 5 pieces for $5 and they arrived relatively quickly. I disassembled the unit, removed the offending part, and soldered in the replacement fuse. A few hours after installation ice was being dispensed again!! The only thing I want to point out is that those temperature sensors are very delicate. I ruined two of them because they get damaged if they get too hot during soldering. Make sure to test for continuity between the terminals once you are doing soldering. Overall, I fixed it for a few bucks. It is not that difficult but you definitely need to have a bit of a bend for using tools and soldering. I estimate that having hire a technician who would have diagnosed and, more likely, recommended replacing the whole unit, it would have cost about $600. Give it a try and save yourself some money. Worst case scenario, just purchase the entire unit for about $100 and replace it. Thanks for publishing this video!!

I suspect this is issue with mine, but have ordered replacement icemaker anyway. Reason being other parts had failed as well. Icemaker would make ice but not eject it. However, in trying to eject it the unit stripped some of the plastic teeth on the drive gears for the ejector. Unit would just make loud clicking noises but never eject ice. Suspect the loud clicking noises were due to the broken teeth.
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond Год назад
That could absolutely happen. The gear could shear off over time, so the new unit is a good deal.

Same ice maker and ice maker is making ice but is also dripping water into ice bin cause ice to block. Would thermal fuse solve this too, perhaps heating is too aggressive? I have swapped ice maker into identical refrigerator to confirm problem is ice maker itself.
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond 11 месяцев назад
That is a good question. The thermal fuse is very cheap, so it can't hurt to change it and see if it helps. That will save you a good bit over a new ice maker unit. Please let us know what you find out on this, as I don't know the answer to this.

Hi, amazon link says no longer available on the fuse, could you possibly provide a different link? Also, it appears the fuse will need soldered on, is that correct?
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond 17 дней назад
Thank you for letting me know that the link is no longer good. I was able to find a replacement: amzn.to/46H6HxU The new fuse will need to be soldered on or you can use a crimp connect to connect it if you are not good at soldering. Either way, be sure to use some heat shrink tubing to keep it from shorting against anything. I hope this helps!

@@TheTerrorBeyond thanks! Just curious when you solder do you cut the leads of the fuse down to about an inch or leave them full length and cut the existing wire?
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond 16 дней назад
@@kentofficerdph8477 Just get the fuse where the bend of the leads fits right around the housing and cut there, then solder inline. You don't want too much extra in the housing, so just try to match the factory length.

Do I need to turn close the water supply before removing the icemaker ??

It is not necessary. You can remove it without pulling the refrigerator away from the wall.

Our has no ice, in it, we changed the water filter and i checked the water valve behind the fridge. The water comes out Great from filling a glass on front door. although the water valve stops short of filling the ice maker. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

This is the issue we are having. The ice maker was making a wheezing sound each cycle but now it's not making any sound. Did you find a solution to your issue? Thank you!

I was having this problem with the ice ejecting. It I would push the reset button, it would work for a couple days and make small, irrregular shaped cubes. Now the unit seems to be completely dead. The reset button appears to have no effect now and I hear zero noises coming from the unit and of course no ice production at all. Do you think this problem has progressed beyond this fuse? Also, is there soldering required to put the new fuse in?
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond 2 года назад
If there is no ice being made anymore, you will need a new unit. The fuse will fix the issue if there is ice being made, but it cannot be extracted. In your case, this doesn't sound like the issue. IF you were to replace the thermal fuse you would cut the existing fuse off and solder the new on one. I would also use heat shrink tubing on the legs of the new fuse just to be safe. The fuse won't fix the issue if the unit will not fill with water anymore though. Replacing the ice maker isn't terribly expensive, as they can be bought for about $120 on Amazon (genuine part), and it will take about 5 minutes to do the work.
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond 2 года назад
One question: have you removed the ice maker to be sure that it is or is not producing ice? If there is ice in the tray, I would suggest defrosting the unit and extracting the ice, then putting it back in to see if ice is made and cannot be extracted. If you find that ice is created and not extracted, your fuse is the likely culprit.
@HH-gn9qt
@HH-gn9qt 2 года назад
@@TheTerrorBeyond As far as I can tell there is no water flow to the unit anymore and there are no more noises from the unit attempting to eject ice. My thought is the problem was the fuse but progressed to the unit failing. I am going to replace the unit and keep my fingers crossed.
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond 2 года назад
@@HH-gn9qt Please come back and let me know how it goes. It could be a number of things. There is a control board in the ice maker that makes the water run at the proper interval, and the extractor to operate at the appropriate interval, etc. Not hard to replace, but I can't guarantee that it would fix the problem.
@HH-gn9qt
@HH-gn9qt 2 года назад
@@TheTerrorBeyond I just pulled the ice maker and when I plugged it back in I was able to hear very weak motor noises coming from the unit. I am guessing it was the ejector as that is the only moving part as far as I know. I also heard the water supply start and stop quickly. I pushed the reset button for kicks as previously it would make the ice maker work intermittently for a couple days. New unit has been ordered. Will come back to report results...

Great video!. I'm having a problem removing the ice tray. I have pushed hard on the tab and pulled the icemaker from the back, but it will not budge. Does anyone have a suggestion?
@TheTerrorBeyond
@TheTerrorBeyond Год назад
It is a very tough clip... I would try pressing the tab down and then putting a flat head screwdriver into the space at the top of the tab and lightly angling it to try to get the tab to release. Be careful when doing this, as I don't want you to damage your refrigerator. Perhaps put a bit of cloth in between the screwdriver and the refrigerator top. This clip is quite tight, so it might take you a moment. I hope this helps!
