Beautiful and rich. I especially enjoy seeing a young man play the organ so proficiently. In our area, many kids take piano lessons for a few years, and then give it up to play sports. Thus accompanists are becoming an endangered species and with it great choral music. Thanks for posting this.

A warm rich tone from Adult Women (without vibrato - Great!) and a full sound from the lower parts as well. A slow, deliberate tempo, not rushed or dismissive as other choirs tend to do. Thank you for setting the bar high on this wonderful, yet simple jewel of a work.

Oh what memories, I sung this many times as a Soprano chorister back in the 1950's and then years later I sung a version written for Male Voice Choir, as a Baritone, I can still sing it from memory all these years later.

Me too, at St Marys church in Luton in the eighties. It was the default song to be sung at weddings about half way through the ceremony and was guaranteed to make the bride cry.

"Lead Me, Lord", Samuel Sebastian Wesley 1 Lead me, Lord, lead me in thy righteousness, make thy way plain before my face. For it is thou, Lord, thou, Lord only, that makest me dwell in safety. 2 Teach me, Lord, teach me truly how to live, that I may come to know thee, and in thy presence serve thee with gladness, and sing songs of praise to thy glory.

Lovely, slightly slow. We did it years ago in a Sunday School Anniversary in Shropshire, a village chapel. However I am a little worried about the 'safety' bit, ok but............similar to 'Praise my soul the king of heaven' -- 'rescues us from all our foes' I never sing that bit!!
@Markofrespect
@Markofrespect 9 лет назад
I guess Wesley used safety in the same way as Rupert Brookes did: “Safety” a poem by Rupert Brooke Dear! of all happy in the hour, most blest He who has found our hid security, Assured in the dark tides of the world that rest, And heard our word, "Who is so safe as we?" We have found safety with all things undying, The winds, and morning, tears of men and mirth, The deep night, and birds singing, and clouds flying, And sleep, and freedom, and the autumnal earth. We have built a house that is not for Time's throwing. We have gained a peace unshaken by pain for ever. War knows no power. Safe shall be my going, Secretly armed against all death's endeavour; Safe though all safety's lost; safe where men fall; And if these poor limbs die, safest of all.

Lovely thank you.
@Lexicop2
@Lexicop2 6 лет назад
Wesley took the text from Psalms 4 and 5, v. 8 in each case. "Safety" was David's term (4:8; Hebrew "betach": security, safety), so perhaps you should address your worry to him.
@Lexicop2
@Lexicop2 6 лет назад
Wesley took the text, including "safety," from Psalm 4:8 (opening of anthem from 5:8), so I guess he used it as David used it.
