Had to watch the video of this after seeing the DW2 one. This is my favorite game in the entire series of both Dynasty and Samurai Warriors. I loved the voice acting, and the story modes had similar maps but different twists or battles for so many characters. This is one I come back to all the time.
Since you specifically mentioned it, i think its worth noting that the PS3 version is nothing like the 360 one, its a separate remaster of the PS2 version that was built on top of the SW3 engine, hence why it includes some SW3 models as bonus content on the CAW editor, not to mention being nowhere near as weirdly shiny as you said the 360 version was.
I did not know that. I may need to go online and see if I can pick up a copy then. I have a few other musou imports on ps3 and they all run pretty well
Samurai Warriors 2 had the best voice acting, cutscenes, game modes, music, and combat! FUN FACT: Kunoichi can make a cameo in Sugoroku and steal your gold, under certain circumstances. . .
@@DanielHernandez-pq5cs Understandable. I think the Douglas Rye sounded better as Cao Cao, but his work as Nobunaga was really good too! Yukimura and Keiji were awesome too, but something about the VA’s in SW2 hit different for me. (Except Keiji lol)
@@jayplayspoorly8293 When I was a kid, I was curious about what happens if you got 5 stars and conquered the entire board, so I played Sugoroku a lot, when the encounter happened. . . I still don’t know what specifically needs to happen in order to trigger it, but she’s definitely in the game :)
@@jayplayspoorly8293 Okay, so apparently the event happens randomly at the port where: - Kunoichi and Goemon will randomly appear - Kunoichi will steal the players gold, and Goemon will steal land from the person in 1st place, and give it to the person in last - In the event that Kunoichi steals your gold, Yoshimoto Imagawa may randomly return it to the player it was stolen from (These events can only happen when playing on the large map)
Loved all the SW2 games, played XL and Empires repeatedly when I was younger. I can still even after all this time name most of the characters even though I haven't played a Warriors game in over a decade. I wanna go play it again now 😭
@@jayplayspoorly8293 Yeah it's a real bummer and unfortunately I don't have a lot of hope for the series anymore. I was going to ask you though, what is your plans for these retrospectives? Are you going to continue going through all the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors games? I know you've obviously been doing the empires spin-offs as well, but do you think you'd go for the Warriors Orochi games as well? I absolutely love those games.
@@eggoslayer1001 Long term I plan on going all the way through DW9/SW5 and possibly what comes out after that. I'm going to cover a lot of misc stuff before heading to SW3/DW6 though. Current plan is to alternate the other two SW2 games with DW Gundam. After that I'll start implementing the Orochi series, and maybe expand to some other KOEI titles (Portable spinoffs in more depth, Dynasty tactics, etc). I'll also probably start alternating KOEI titles with franchises outside of their lineup, as I didn't make the channel solely for koei content even though it's shaping up that way so far. If I had to guess, the release order right now would be Gundam>SW2XL>Gundam 2>SW2E>Gundam 3>WO>Gundam 4>WO2.
@@jayplayspoorly8293 I actually started playing Warriors Orochi 1 in honor of this news lol. Actually the first time I've played it. Played 2 and 3 a LOT. I'm starting to realize it's basically the exact same game as WO2. Same menus, same music, same fonts, same everything lol. I know that's not an unusual thing in the Musou games but I had to eject the disc and see if it was actually WO1 or if I had put WO2 in there by mistake lmao. I'm not going to complain too much about it because WO2 is such an incredible game with so many fantastic elements to it. Obviously WO3 is quite a bit different but you could seriously probably just combine WO1 and 2 into one single video lol.
The best samurai of the entire series, this game needs a remake, with xl,empires, suguroku in one game for the newest generation Ps5,Xbox Series,Switch and Pc with cross-platform online.
It is worth noting that while it's not a complete match, Kunoichi's moveset _was_ largely preserved in the form of Nene, whose moveset is very similar, though several of her moves are different from Kunoichi's. Agreed about preserving the character herself though. She was fun. At least she returns in the Orochi games! Along with the other removed characters, Goemon and Yoshimoto!
One of my fav warriors games ever period, and def favorite of the SW series. SW1XL is a close second to this one in that series, but this game was like 1XL but even better.
Kind of weird but for some reason even though your not wrong about the improvements in this, I never actually played this much despite loving SW1. Didn't like the move to a more standard color palette. Looked the same as Dynasty Warriors 5 just the B-team version without as interesting of a story and less characters and when the game came out it did look dated compared to alot of the seventh gen games coming out at the same time. I will say though I absolutely adored SW4 (best soundtrack in series no competition ie Heavenly Voice and God Of War) and by the time you finish SW4, 4-II and Spirit Of Sanada it does a much better job of fleshing out the sengoku storyline and making it just as interesting if not more so then the Dynasty Warriors games.
To me honestly the first one will always be the best one in the series but this is definitely second I just didn't like how I didn't have that much content like the first one has
PS3/Vita versions are actually from ground up remaster than basic HD port like 360 version, Using Samurai warriors 3 Z (also a PS3 port) as base, Performance wise tho it still tad behind 360 version although it's understandable since game now elimates draw distance and demands more to render new effects and textures, occasional it will hit 60fps although tbh would have prefered if it was capped 30 While it's sad that original SW never got this treatment, I'm glad this exist although I picked this up years ago and now the prices have been risen high even for used copies last I checked so be cautioned
I found out about the ps3 differences and the JP SW2/XL/E combo version yesterday and it isn’t the cheapest haha. Did they add any online components to either version? I may give them a shot
Aside from nostalgia I still don't know why SW2 is so popular because with a bit of honesty it has little to nothing and way too many flaws (I know it's a Koei game but still.) Reduced timeline's story since last main entry (2 starts in 1570, 1 starts in 1560) tho XL retroactively fixed that. Outright garbage story modes for basically 90% of the cast, so many bad and random choices, like the game adds Nagamasa yet Nobunaga doesn't do a single battle against the Azai ? No and Nene have copypaste story of Nobunaga and Hideyoshi (a trend since DW5 actually) completely random nonsense like Kotaro's story ? Some of the main stuff actually unplayable like Shizugatake's Shibata side (even the XL has a twisted version). They really try to give a huge focus on Kyushu the Tachibana and Shimazu but it really only has 1 battle about it (aside from some fictionnal random stuff added to Ginchiyo's story) ? There still are some gems like Nagamasa's story but compared to everything else ? Yikes the average is low Added characters are very debatable as per usual with Koei, like we have a billion characters added for Hashiba-Toyotomi but not a single one for let's say the Mōri who's a proeminent clan from the period the game is heavily focusing on ? Adding a character like Ankokuji Ekei seems such a no-brainer for me but I guess no. And that's just 1 clan among many others but in the meantime we got ...Musashi ? Don't get me wrong Musashi is certainly legendary but he's also so damn useless in a Warriors game, he even started that dumb trend of adding useless swordsman followed by Kojiro and Munenori (there's a reason why they got cut in 3 & 5 and are useless in 4). Voice acting is like a 50/50 for me some characters have greats VA and some have very terrible ones Gameplay is atrocious. Yes they added the Normal/Power/Special types but it's so so fucking bad, first all characters have 2 specials meaning that Special character are just outright more limited for no reason. Then the balancing ? Like some character have Special so freaking busted you can bascially solo stuff with them only while some other character have hella gimmicky specials (gloryfied C1 bascially...). A LOT of moveset have unfonctionnal moves, I'd like to say Shingen is the worst but he has had broken moves in bascially every game (bare 5 ofc). I've seen people talking about the other gamemode, I've tried Sugoroku, I was so bored I couldn't finish 1 game. As a whole the SW2 era (including XL and E) is extremely weak, first of it's the only game that has released its Empire before Xtreme Legends and it really hurts it especially since XL added key characters like Motochika and Yoshimoto but even worst, it added moves, litteraly a C5 for Power/Special characters and C9 for Normal characters, move that btw for some characters give Special attack buffs (unrelated to whether the character is a Special type or not) furthering the poorly balanced game. It also tweaked and fixed gameplay like the numerous not working not comboing musou attack, in other words : Empire is one hell to play if you've played Xtreme Legends. And was it really too much asked to add a story mode for Ranmaru and Okuni it's not like 2XL is full of content anyway... Also mind that it's the game that started to cut characters. (If one's not counting the bonus-weird-free-only Fuxi and Nuwa in DW3) Tho it probably was unavoidable considering the poor choices Koei makes when it comes to characters.
