SW2 Empires was my introduction to the series, rented from a blockbuster in Alaska by my dad to keep the family entertained that first lonely winter with no friends and barely any of our furniture.

Empires from both Samurai Warriors 2 and Dynasty Warriors 5 are my personal favorites.

Samurai Warriors 4 was my gateway drug into Sengoku History. It's a fantastic tool for getting a foot in the door for learning history, seeing as it helps tremendously in putting faces to names. It's a lot easier to read history books when you can actually imagine Evil Markiplier, Chimp the Pimp and Fat Badger as the people in question. This is less relevant now thanks to the influx of excellent Sengoku media such as Nioh and the newer Nobunaga's Ambition games. 4 is fantastic for clan and regional history, and 4-2 great for character building (such as role playing Mitsunari). Spirit of Sanada is a fantastic beast of it's own and you get to see the way history would have looked to a person who lived through it (i.e. A samurai who lived in Kai during the 1560s-1600s). I loved 4 so much that I made a point of speedrunning it. I lost all my RU-vid videos a while back, but I once held all twelve records as well as a special 64-stage chronological order playthrough that totalled 11 hours. It's still on my twitch if anyone cares. Having platinumed all the SW4 gen games, I highly recommend playing them. I highly discourage completing them, however - warriors games are a grind to complete. But a casual player who enjoys the history of the period will have a fantastic time. 50 bucks is a bit dear even accounting for DLC, so I'd wait for a sale or just recommend buying it on PS4 for cheap if it's an option. Excellent video, mate. Sums up my opinions on the SW4 gen and franchise, especially SW2 remakes.

Samurai Warriors 4 loosely covered the entirety of the Sengoku Jidai, from Mori Motonari’s success at the Battle of Miyajima all the way to the Siege of Osaka Castle in which the Toyotomi and Sanada Yukimura made their last stand.

I was so confused about this. I remember really liking the game-y aspects of Samurai Warriors 5... then wondered why this was the next release.

10 years later it is still the best SW game in every aspects... ijust wish they would follow this direction instead of rebooting it with 5

Oh, there's an idea, a Shogunate Let's Play of Samurai Warriors 2 Empires.

It’s funny. I picked up Spirit Sanada randomly a couple of months ago since I skipped it. Then started replaying 4 and found this channel while wanting to learn more about the real history. Samurai Warriors 4 is still a fun game. This generation of Samurai 4, Dynasty Warriors 8 and Warriors Orochi 3/4 on PS4 may be the peak of these games for me. Story telling was more interesting and the number of characters and move sets gave you countless hours of fun. I hope Koei can go back to and expand on this winning formula.

7:05 the same, I played it again last year from nothing until i have all mounts and weapons, the game is so good and the music when you are on the strategy phase is soothing, i love this game.

I preordered Samurai Warriors 4 Special Anime pack for PS4. The anime was whateves. I remember playing mostly on the Vita becuz of the remote play option. The the Twin Cherry Blossom OST was badass. Nobuyuki was basically Cao Pi with a less mean personality and Charge attack spam. A lot of the game was overshadowed by Spirit of the Sanada which by far is the best SW game to date. But nothing beats the PS2 memories of the SW1 Kawanakajima battle drum OST with Yukimura leading the pincer attack.

This is my favorite Samurai Warriors game, it has a lot of content, a very well-done story and the best gameplay in the series for me.

Samurai warriors 2 was my favorite game way back in the day.

This is going to sound creepy AF, but I feel like you and I would be good friends if we were in the same social circle. Samurai Warriors is my favorite console-based game series (second only to the Baldur’s Gate series overall), Empires is easily the biggest time-sink for me in any Samurai/Dynasty generation, and SW4/4-II is the best in the whole series, though personally I favor SW4E thanks to my love for original PCs. I can respect Koei for trying something new with SW5, but nearly all of my favorite characters crop up later in the timeline, in particular Mitsunari, Masamune, and Nene (though Motochika, at least, was a contemporary of Nobunaga and Mitsuhide). At this point, I wish we would get something, at least, given that it's been awhile since SW5. We haven't even gotten anything related to Dynasty Warriors or Warriors Orochi, and given how prolific Omega Force usually is about these games, I am deeply concerned for all of their futures. Hopefully this remaster will serve to remind many people of just how much fun the series and its sister series really are, and turn prompt Koei Tecmo to continue adding to the legacy of these legendary periods in history.

SW4 is indeed amazing. I'll be waiting for a sale, but this already made me happy. Kind of a nice nostalgia to immerse yourself on, after the hard-to-swallow SW5. Some aspects of Spirit of Sanada bother me, but at the end of the day I think they nailed on the hype and dramatic moments. So yeah, this generation takes the cake for me.

The game was an insta buy the day it dropped on steam. I wish to see a remaster of Samurai Warriors 1 on Steam. Having fond memories of playing it on PS2 with a friend. Same goes for Dynasty Warriors 4.

I remember Samurai Warriors 4 is what got me into Japanese history (well mostly the Sengoku Jidai), however i bought 4-II first thinking it was 4, so technically that one got me into it all lolol. However empires was my favourite out of the bunch as that is also the Samurai Warriors game i spent the most time on. The playtime on that is way overshadowed by Nobunaga's Ambition though! (Both SOI and Awakening)

To be honest i prefer 4 over 4-2! Creating your character and traveling the land doing missions and making friends and learning new things was amazing for me

I had Xbox and PC only experienced DW Empires so far though idk if the mechanics are somehow the same with SW.

2XL is my favorite game in the SW franchise, and will probably be so for a long time. But 4 is undoubtedly a brilliant game, with good storytelling, great new characters, and above all, the wonderful music. I used to play the Sanada story over and over again just to hear Petals in the Winds. That song is a classic. Hope we'll see a SW6 soon, and that one will also be a banger 😊 That said, one think I don't really like about 4 is the Hyper moveset. Yeah it helps clearing troops much easier, but it's so "unmusou-like", and the Hyper-focused characters are often underwhelming (My boy Nobuyuki is sooooo much worse than his brother ít's not even funny xD)

In my opinion, SW4 Has surpassed SW2 both in quality as well as being the best entry point to the franchise, i am certainly glad that it is released on steam for more players to enjoy. For me, 50 dollars is a bit much and i will 100% get it when its on sale since i already have it on my ps4. In terms of the future of the franchise, i really dont know where i would like them to go. The overall ideas in 5 are amazing and its great to see the story being the focus as well the characters interacting more with each other, but it feels too small now. It would have been great if they released a dlc or expansion that focused on tbe other regions at the same time of Nobunaga's reign, like Shikoku or Kyushu. If they will follow the same format as 5 for 6, then i assume its going to be Hideyoshi's reign, which is much more events/incidents than nobunaga's, my cope is that they arent announcing anything because they are in developement for it.

SW4 definitely has the best story I've seen in a Warriors game. Dynasty Warriors 7 is a close second though. But I agree with you on how the smaller regional campaigns do a great job building up to the larger unification campaign. It's why I'm kind of concerned about SW6 immediately jumping into Hideyoshi's story without establishing the other clans. Anyways, I nabbed this and Ghost of Tsushima for the Steam Deck so it's going to be a busy weekend.

I just loved playing as Tokugawa Ieyasu with his cannon spear or quake shaker . Yabushige in shogun 2024 series is based on Masanobu Honda 1538-July 20,1616 is part of the Honda clan . They should put Hosokawa Tadaoki and Hosokawa Fujitaka Samurai Warriors 5 Empires or Samurai Warriors 5 Extreme Legends also they should put in Samurai Warriors 5 Extreme Legends or Samurai Warriors 6 Shimazu Yoshihisa February 9, 1533 - March 5, 1611 brother of Shimazu Yoshihiro August 21, 1535 - August 30, 1619 .

Original Samurai warriors was the best and should be released along with 2 on steam in a hd collection :)

The SW series gave me a mixed feelings regarding their potrayal of Mitsunari, which makes me like and sympathize with the man a little. You know, compared to his historical counterpart and potrayal in most other media - the manipulative magistrate is how I defined him in my mind, it's kinda weird seeing him as this heroic and tragic figure lol (of course, this is just a personal nitpick) On a sidenote, I actually like how SW5 does things in terms of how detailed the campaign are. It really puts into perspective on how much Nobunaga had to overcome. The previous games always skimmed his pre-Honnoji campaign when there's a lot to tell. I'm currently replaying SW4 in PC and I was surprised that they combined the battle against Saito (Inabayama) with the Rokkaku (March to the Capital); and combined Azai (Odani) with the anti-Nobunaga coalition, and so on. Heck, I don't think they even had a storyline with Nobuyuki in the previous games. But yeah, I agree that it's unfortunate that they didn't expand and capitalize on it. Maybe it was the mixed reviews, but I feel like it's something that can be overturned by making a continuation Hideyoshi-Ieyasu story game or even an empire version with a more detailed map of center Japan. The way they did Hideyoshi's campaign against the Mori in SW 5 deserves some praises (Kizugawaguchi, Arioka where Kanbei was held captice by Murashige, Kozuki with Shikanosuke, Takamatsu Inundation), so it's only natural to pick up the story from there.

Off topic: I learned long ago(from the Star Wars versus community no less) that Wikipedia should NEVER be trusted as a news or information source. Ubisoft proved that today.

Is the game moderately difficult like SW2? I completed DW8 recently and felt let down by the end game, but greatly enjoyed the story as it was the first DW where I actually read all the dialogue and became immersed into the story. So maybe I'll pick this up on sale just to get engrossed in the story since you praised it. I bought SW1 when it came out back in the day and *LOVED* its stories and I've been playing SW2 on emulator recently.

I'm interested in trying 4. I only played Samurai Warriors and Samurai Warriors 2: Empires on the PS2, but I felt a little let down with the sequel after how much I loved the original. The first game had such a different atmosphere. It was so energetic and gritty, way more explosive than 2: Empires, but there's also less characters of course. I enjoyed using Kotaru Fuma in 2: Empires.

Since you were wondering, the new PC version of SW4 is actually a direct port of the Switch version - which is in turn a direct port of the PS3. It's not just you, the graphics are worse!

It's funny I've been wanting to play samurai warriors 2 empire for at least a month now and the only reason I can't is because I can't find my PS2 controller, guess I'll have to order a new one, but I do understand wanting to play a certain type of game every year, for me it's OG dead space 1&2 I have played it every year from '08 to 2024, but I've been rewatching your channel for the last 2 weeks and I noticed something was missing and that was long form videos, I know you try to keep all your videos short to make it easy for people to watch them, but I think it would be good if you combined all your videos on the genpei and onin war, and all your sengoku jidai videos should be combined, I think they would do well especially the way RU-vid's algorithm is, two long form videos the genpei, onin war, video and sengoku jidai video .

Leave it to Koei Tecmo to release a past Musou game without any indication whatsoever. Last time I was blindsided by a KT re-release, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate was the recipient.

As a big Warriors fan, I really forget them until this news, probably because of recent titles flops (DW 9 and SW 5). Where are DW 10 and SW 6? For the SW 4 DX, I already have all four game of SW 4 saga. SW 4, SW 4ii, SW 4 Empires and Spirit of Sanada. Spirit of Sanada has best content, SW 4ii has best skills three, SW 4 has best story and SW 4 Empire is best at everything overall. I think SW 4ii improved skill system from SW 4 but combat is perfected in Spirit of Sanada. I think Koei made a big mistake not continueing Spirit of Sanada's aproch. They kinda did it but rebooting character designs kinda alienated fandom. SW 4 Empire is just perfect, My favorite Warriors game among the entire Warriors franchise. They should implement its setting to next Empire titles. Maybe only feature they could add should be single officer road from DW8 Empire. A Vagabond mode could be cool.

I’ve only played SW5 and enjoyed it throughly, so hearing that it’s apparently the bad controversial entry made me excited to try the old ones, but the almost full-price cost of each game has always driven me away. I really don’t get why Koei insists on only ever giving their games a very minor discount at best.

what I hate about SW5 is that they cut 75% of characters, that is the worst thing they did so far and this game is ok, I think if they do anything next it will be SW4 Empires port to Steam, maybe next year or so

I wont get it on PC, first cause I am low on funds, second because my machine is a potato and third because my PS4 version should still work just fine. I liked SW4 by itself, it just felt much better than SW3, that one was awkward. Making the characters in other modes was fun, and I also liked to play as factions and clans instead of individual characters stories, just like they did in DW7. It was a decent way to keep expanding the number of character without making the stories repetitive, and allowed to focus on less-famous, but still amazing battles, like the Shimazu campaing. I got iffed that II was released, I never have the $ to buy those, and overall I don't have GREAT memories of 4, but it made me happy at the time at least.

Best one. Way better than SW5. That was a letdown. They ruined half the characters visually.

I actually just started playing SW4 again I barely even did any of the story modes which I am unsure as to why, still playing SW5 also having alot of fun with SW4 didn't really pay much attention that u can lvl up your normal attacks, hype attacks and special attacks so having alot of fun doing that. I neve played SW3 though as it was on the switch which sucked.

I played the hell out of 1 & 2, but skipped 3 & 4, and picked up 5. I've played it a lot but I'm not really crazy about it. The enemies feel so damn weak, accomplishing missions feels underwhelming. 4 looks awesome.

I can yap about how good and what I like abt this game (after using emulator to play it) One thing I hate about this game... actually the publisher. $50 for a 10 y.o game? even $40 is too much especially without any graphic improvements or something else that makes it better. Would I buy it? maybe, but its for the sake of me loving the series. $30-$35 is a fair price imo. Well at least if I decided to buy it, I won't have to think about it crashing every 2 stages
