I am absolutely fascinated by your fascination about white weapon of Japan :) Btw. a fun little fact - I've always loved "Sodom" character from a video game called "Street Fighter Alpha 3". He uses a pair of Jitte.
interesting, it seems to me that these items are lock-over-coming devices like lock picks and pry bars. carried by the samurai (the sworn retainer, early/night watch/guard) and later police makes sense. thank you for your work.
Awesome video, very informative. Its interesting how things seem to come around, I've been sporadically e-mailing and messaging/commenting around the web for more info on this particular tool, I cant remember if I asked this about it here. Either way, thank you. I appreciate your practical and informational videos. I have been a lurking fan for awhile now and I enjoy the relaxed and modernized approach.
Aesthetically I agree, but I don't know enough about technique to comment on which would fit me better for practical application. But surface level, I think it looks the coolest lol.
@@SygilWLF it's called helmet breaker or (and cooler) skull breaker if you say someone stop or i'll have to use my skull breaker it has some intimidation to it i really liked that as well
Jitte and sai are not related, actually jitte is older than the sai, besides that the two actually don't have that much in common besides some superficial similarities. There's also no evidence the sai was a police weapon in Okinawa.
False. Please research. The Sai is a way older design, originating as the trisula in India. They are directly related, as all things in history evolve from other designs over time. The Jutte was used in the Edo period between 1600-1868. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sai_(weapon) Of course, none of that matters. It's whether one can use them on the fields or the streets, not argue their origins.
@@thedojomartialarts I'm aware of that origin story however doesn't actually make sense, trisula a triton like weapon and the name is not for a real weapon but a mythological one kind of like the weapon of the Greek god Poseidon. Indian Influence on Chinese martial arts is lacking in general. Jitte is find to have been earlier than edo period, which sai doesn't even show up in what is now china until the 17th century with possibly taking influence from European parrying daggers, again the two actually do not have that much in common besides the most basic look, with the jitte having much more variety.
