Samyang have finally released a zoom lens! This is of course the 24-70mm F2.8 which is a standard midrange zoom that can be used for anything from landscapes, event photography, portraiture and general purposes.
This is a first look video of what this lens has to offer and it does have some interesting features that people may be interested in such as the custom mode switch which can control the aperture and par-focal capabilities which I will cover in a future video. I have used this lens on my Sony A7III but I'm excited to see what else it can do in terms of performance in my full review coming shortly so be sure to subscribe if you haven't already.

where is scale of distance on focus ring? how can i know if the focus is set on 1m or on endless distance? can you record video with sound of autofocus engine to show if its quite or noisy?

hope to see your verdict any soon, problem i have with samyang at the moment is that they give errors on my a7RIII and i have to detach them etc. i have e-mailed samyang about this issue but they don't repley. It is with the 18mm 2.8 and the new 24 1.8 i hope this is better on the 24-70. but maybe Sigma would be better?

They might be a bit late to market with this one, I feel like a lot of people that needed a more budget friendly mid-zoom already have the Tamron 28-75; myself included. Still, I do love Samyang and I'm glad to see they are expanding their offerings. Perhaps they will bring out a 70-200 at some point. Either way, glad to see you back with another video!

I just checked the price. Digidirect is selling this lens for $1078.65 AUD. Whereas Tammy 28-75 f2.8 selling $1549 for G2 and $1053 for G1. All these lens does not have the image stabilization. For cheap mid range zoom glass. These two brands are the cheapest. But I think more folks would pick Samyang over Tammy because the build quality. I mean Samyang has the look and feel of a premium glass and it seems purposefully designed this way to attract more consumers instead of pro-sumers.

KINDLY REPLY!!! Sir, I am facing some problem while using Samyang 24-70 f2.8 with my Sony a7 IV. I have updated my sony a7 IV firmware but most of the time its hard to get pin point focus when I try to take pictures enabling single AF... When eye detection is enabled it either focuses behind the eye or nose plane...but sony GM shows me no problem ...

Oooh this is exciting, I have many Samyang primes and they are excellent. I'd always dreamed of a Samyang 24-70! I have a Tamron 28-75 which is great but I really do miss having 24mm as it's become one of my favourite focal lengths. I may have to pick one up. I tried the Sigma 24-70 2.8 but sharpness close up was poor and the autofocusing not quite quick enough in certain situations

Ooof, although I did just read it weighs over a 1000 grams, that is pretty heavy compared to the Tamron - almost double!

@@alexisseary6538 I'm so stuck between this lens and the Tamron 28-75mm G2 version (new one). I don't like big, heavy lenses but I just want that 24mm and the video features the samyang one has. I also like the fact that the tamron lens has a USB C port for future updates where as I would have to buy a lens dock for the samyang one... I literally don't know what to do lol. I do photography mainly but have a few video clients coming up. Dang bro.

I had a Samyang 24mm F1.4 EF manual focus lens and it was great, so sharp, but the 14mm F2.8 FE auto focus lens I have it garbage, so much softer than the other Sony lenses I have, so I’d be pretty wary of buying another Samyang lens. Perhaps if I was on a budget and had an a7 or a7ii I’d consider Samyang, but for the a7iii or any of the newer bodies they just don’t do the sensor justice. If you’re going to drop AU$3K+ on a body, going cheap on the lens would be a waste. A bit like putting cheap E10 fuel in a high performance sports car. Good review though John. You haven’t dropped a video yet this year, you still shooting?

I love both of my Samyang 35 & 85mm f1.4 lenses for my a7riv and a9. Use the for all my weddings with great results. But for the price they are asking it’s not enough to sway most of us from using the Tamron 28-75 and the sigma 28-70 f2.8 which I have. What I love about Samyang is how they sell their prime lenses of f1.4 for so cheap and they are great lenses. But now they are going head to head with tamron and sigma for nearly the same price as this lens and I don’t think it will appeal to many. Unless it comes with a kick ass warranty I don’t see them doing well. But I’ll still keep my prime lenses. Great video glad to see you back always love checking out your reviews. Keep up the good work

I can almost guarantee we will see some discounts from samyang in the next couple of months. That’s how I got my copy of the 85mm 1.4. Sold my GM for it!

@@Faded.Visuals you know that’s exactly what I did. I had the Samyang 85 mm F1.4 and finally saved up for the 85 GM and I was not impressed. Just a hair sharper but I actually thought it was slower in focusing. I sent it back. I was so happy with the 85 mm and I saw so many great reviews on the 35 mm F 1.4 picked up a used copy for $300. I use them both for a lot of my weddings.

To sell this now its needs to be priced at the lower end. Late arrival but if they get a 70-200 f2.8 as well and undercut Sony on it by 25% it will sell. Good lenses all round from Sanyang.

Tamron 70-180 cost about 45% of a Sony 70-200 F2.8 Mk 1. and about 40% of a Mk 2.

1 year warranty vs 6 years on the Tamron. I'm pretty sure the Tamron is faster in terms of auto focus. It's nice that it goes wider than the Tamron but I'll have to to see more videos to see if its better.

Samyang would have melted faces if it was 28-70 F2. Very late to the party considering Tamon is now onto a second version and G Master second version is iminent.

@@JohnSisonPhotography they’ll do really well for a 70-200 and a 100-400 4.5 -5.6 or 200-500 5.6, 70-300 4.5-5.6 The biggest thing I miss about Sony is the lens selection.

I like samyang but don't also don't super trust them. They imagine quality is super good but qc is shitty, so if you are lucky you ger value, if not so - undervalue. But since its more pricy maybe they qcing it better

it was a really good lens for the short time that I had it- was a bit heavy though- but I liked it a lot. image quality and lens performance were excellent... however, there are two really huge problems with it: first, is that the mounting plate is screwed into four small plastic posts- this is all that is holding your lens onto your camera. so let's say you trip and fall and you bang your lens on the ground (which I've done with my sony 28-70mm kit lens- but it still works perfectly), or if your tripod with your camera falls, as mine did, the plastic posts will simply break on impact and your lens will just snap straight off your camera. the second problem is trying to get that repaired. it will not go well because repair shops cannot get any parts for your lens, and Samyang has only one location in the US to fix the things covered by their warranty... so ultimately you'll learn that you've bought a $1000 disposable lens... a real shame because I would have easily replaced it with another. Instead, though I'm gonna miss the 4mm on the wide end, I got the Tamron.

Thanks but $1k for a SAMYANG zoom? Hard pass. Thats almost as laughable as the new $1900 Tamron zoom. No idea what's gotten into these 3rd party companies but I guess they are not in the market of making affordable lenses any longer. Not to mention Ive owned the 35, 50 and 85 f/1.4 lenses as well as most their 1.8 lenses. The 1.4 lenses were terrible. Awful AF and soft until stopped down to around 2.8 and the 1.8 lenses were cheap toys. Never again Samyang.
