I have a few of the Rokinon V-AF lenses. So was curious about the manual focus adapter. Glad you had one for review. Agree, it is way overpriced. I was only interested in it since I’m already invested into the lenses. But would only consider it if it was $100 at most. Can’t believe they priced it so much.
Hi Craig! Another great video! Thanks! From my reading, I was made to understand that the native focus ring is supposedly non-linear, and does not give you repeatable focus points because it behaves differently based on how rapidly you twist the ring. The manual focus adapter is what gives you that linear, repeatable focus throw, which is why it comes with distance markings (and the lens barrel has none), because if it was just a lens hood with distance marks, I would TOTALLY agree that it's way overpriced. I do believe that for the price point, it brings more functionality - that being a truly linear, long focus throw. Perhaps you would be so awesome as to do some comparison tests for the community to set the record straight on this? That would be greatly appreciated for all our benefit! Much Love & Respect!
Hey Colin, Fantastic question. After testing the Samyang V-AF lens, I can confirm that the focus ring acts in a linear fashion. (However, small caveat here - whenever you focus pull in a hard, accelerated manner, it may be possible for your 'focus point / anchor point' for where you are pulling focus, to move a millimeter or two to the right. I say it may be possible, because there is a bit of a delay between a hard focus pull, and the actual lens making the focus pull, so perhaps it was just my finger drifting in the time of that delay). The manual focus adapter doesn’t seem to change the fly by wire system since it still communicates electronically through its connecting point. However, it does act as if it’s a true manual focus system (although, it has a small delay when making a very accelerated focus pull)
