'Twas a long day on the trail. The summit lies at 11,503 feet, the highest peak in Southern California. The hike was as challenging as I expected. It's not for the faint of heart. Mileage was ~18 miles, +/- .5 miles (Depends on whose map or GPS you trust). While the elevation gain was over 5,000 feet, it was also a long time to be on your feet, 10-12 hours. We took the Vivian Creek Trail to the top of San Gorgonio. This was my first time hiking San Gorgonio. The first set of switchbacks and the last mile to the summit were the hardest parts of the hike in my opinion. Overall, we had a good hike. Good scenery and good friends made all the pain worth it.
