I personally really enjoyed the tone and atmosphere of episode 1. I found the scenes between Chief and Ackerson to be riveting and have been impressed with the general improvement in production, visuals, dialogue, etc. I'm really looking forward to seeing where Season 2 goes. 🔥

I'm not a gamer but my brothers are. I decided to get into the Halo universe after watching the cutscenes for Halo 4. My brothers play the games and I read the books. I would love to see the books made into movies/shows.
While I’m liking the show I’m not sure if a tv show budget can do Halo CE justice, especially with the flood. I’d love a full movie where we drop all the extra characters including Silver Team, and focus on Master Chief and the Halo. It would be cool if they did what Disney is doing with Marvel and Star Wars, multimedia with movies and tv series.
I think Chief's disturbance as the condor was leaving was more about the shaman lady saying she's seen his death and it's coming soon. That would rattle me coming from someone surrendering themselves to an imminent glassing beam
Serious question here. Im not trolling im gonna get to a point. How deeply involved of a Halo fan would you rate yourself, lets just use 1-10. Are you familiar with more than just the games? Say the extended lore like books vidocs and other medias? The reason I ask is because if you are a "casual" halo fan or part of the "Broader Audience" Cause I could see that being the take away especially with an anthropomorphic way of absorbing the media. If you are part of one of those less involved groups which is absolutely acceptable to be, and even to like the show. But if you have read as much and consumed as much of the Lore as I have, The way we know the Chief is not someone who would be shook by someone saying they foresaw his death, he is not scared of death, he has never had a normal life and doesnt understand self preservation the way we do. He doesnt want to die, and will do everything to avoid it. But he will without hesitation accept it, if that means completing his goal. For example the end of Halo 4. He essentially without thinking twice detonates a nuke in his hands. But he would absolutely be bothered by leaving someone behind. Especially a civilian he could have saved. he sees saving all of them or at least protecting them as his responsibility. And leaving anyone behind. Be it Marine ODST innies, civilians, enlisted, or unexpected allies, will always make his heart hurt as he thinks of Sam.
A lot of these positive responses are very contrived. I wouldn’t even call them normies because they probably haven’t played all the games or even studied the video logs are alternate cutscenes. In brief I don’t think a true Halo fan, who has read the novels, can find one iota of this show acceptable. For me season 1 with its DEI inserts like Quan and now others epitomizes what’s wrong with this show, instead of telling the compelling stories of MC, the Arbiter, and a host of other plots and characters Paramount is more concerned with being inclusive and dictating their own sjw message that has nothing to do with Halo.
No, cheeks is probably more rattled by the fact they strolled into lava like a bunch of dumbasses. Real chief wouldn't care less, and with his superior IQ he would understand the shaman is referring to ego-death, a fact the writers TRIED, in a very purile heroes-journey-way, to insert into the episode as though there was something interesting and foreboding about it....
@@LowerKace thing is, TV Chief is a very different person than he is in the rest of the lore. Its similar in how his power level is much lower in the games than it is in books and on the show. They've made choices that mold him to fit the medium in which the story is being told. That said, think about how rattled he already was from seeing Makee, and from having the elites just walk away instead of killing him. Plus he's pulled his implant, which does a lot of the same work that social conditioning does in the rest of lore. It's good story telling, even if it is a more humanized take on him.
I think what the show does really well that I don't ever see mentioned is conveying a sense of 'risk' in the combat scenes, particularly with the other Spartans. It's not like a Marvel movie where the the titular characters all survive and there's never any sense of danger. It feels like anyone and everyone could die at any point, really hammers home the existential threat theme of the covenant. I hope the show lasts long enough to do the same with the flood.
@@braydoxastora5584 « Marine’s weapons don’t do any damage » do I need to remind you how many Elites the chief has killed with those shotgun and magnum ? There is literally a missing Spartan Team (with names) which has a high chance to be dead. No name marines dead just like in any war movie.
@@braydoxastora5584 I don't really think a sense of risk is directly correlated to volume of deaths. But even if we want to play by that metric, human combatants and civilians alike being mowed down in the show still serves the purpose of conveying how overwhelming the odds are.
@@braydoxastora5584 that demonstrates the differences between the simple marines (who are from the comm team first and then (in the Sword base) against an Arbiter (?)…) and the covenants. In games, marines already struggled about Grunts so… No surprise here. That also helps to highlight the kind of threat the Covenants are and how Spartan are the ultimate way for human to fight against them.
I watched episode one twice before I picked up on the that they had digitally changed the ceremony for what the public was compared to what the reality was. It's so chilling when he says master chief and silver team couldn't be here they're out there fighting for you. that is some major high-quality political propaganda.
Thank you for giving your own take and not being afraid of stating your opinion even if it might not be the mainstream view. I like what the second season has shown for the most part. Part of me thinks they should have focused on a team like grey team or some other spartans and there would potentially be less pushback. Chief has always been reflective and regretful. He struggles with killing the dock workers during the capture of Watts. Sam's death, etc.
Great video, even if it wasn't what you were wanting to make. RU-vid is too full of the haters already, they all come to the top of search results which is deflating. Foundation had a similar problem. This season is definitely better than last. It really feels like the first 10 seconds were dedicated to "We know the ending made no sense, we will never speak of it again". That said, they couldn't drop all story lines they started in Season 1... imagine being one of the many viewers not familiar with Halo who did enjoy season 1, and you came to Season 2 and they were like "our bad, forget everything you saw".....
I'm sorry but the setup around the show is what's turning me off, you have Spartan IIs hating each other for some reason, Human slavery and bounty hunting of each other while their species is joining the Critically Endangered list. It just doesn't FEEL like Halo and only vaguely LOOKS like Halo. Also to your comment about the Arbiter not likely being Thel Vadamee, Bold of you to assume that the Writers and Director are familiar with the basics of Halo Lore

Problem is that it’s become extremely lucrative for creators to be negative about things like Halo or Marvel so they make hateful content for engagement.
They could have made this same show with a squad of ODSTs and it would have made WAY more sense with how much feelings they want all the spartans to have
100 they couldve had a scene where two odst guys we following fight rhe spartian john in the gym when spartian was top secret. Got wooped and died from john. And then leave it and return to odst and dont mention it again. That wouldve made spartarns even more mysterious and badass when the wars start. Something on the fringe and u hear it per odst pov
This is how you criticize a show and give credit for good stuff ofc. 90% or youtube reviewers act like little kids not getting candy and shouting everything is Trash. I guess that's what gets the most views these days...
As someone who never played the games but I enjoyed the TV show and through this channel I've learned tons about the Lore of halo. Iis him removing his helmet and armor just a big deal cause he doesn't do it in the game.
@rinehardt6837 more or less. Chief was conceived as a blank slate character that the player could pour their own personality into. He never reveals his face or talks much so the player can superimpose themselves onto the character. As a consequence, over the 20 years of the game, players have developed a sense of ownership over the character making content where he is clearly differentiated from the player, problematic. It goes a bit deeper than just this, but in a nutshell this is the crux of the issue.
Pretty sure I'm going to be in the minority here, but I hate the silver timeline. The guy playing the Cheif would be an awesome Fred in blue team. Just the way he speaks an the finality of his statements. I'm used to the cheif being very brief, and not divulging everything he thinks.
A neat detail I noticed on my 2nd watch of ep 1, when chief shields himself over Perez, the heat from the glassing starts boiling the paint in his armor
Having had time to consider it...I think that Chief removing his helmit isn't a bad thing. But there are still 2 problems. They did it WAY too early in season 1. Yes, he does remove it and his armor in extended lore...but that is in print. So the visual reveal of his face for the FIRST time, should have taken some more build up and weight to it. Exploring his humanity and developing the doubt about who he is with the helmit on would have really built up the reveal of his face, and by extension, his humanity. By doing it so early, that led to the second issue, is that they did it WAY too much. It was like a song getting overplayed in stores and malls. It might be a good song, but if it is pushed down your throat, it sours. So if they had saved it for the end or near the end of Season 1, then it would have set up Season 2 for more of that exploration and the politics behind everything.
They better not mess up noble team if they involve them but they bloody well should because they are pivotal in securing cortana and Halsey I know it’s not story for story but hopefully they get it right and maybe we see a super carrier but I doubt it
It is a bit better, not much better. I would have liked in better if it wasn't called halo, they should have just gone for the story they wanted to tell and not call it Halo.

Internationally people are loving it to the point the entirety of episode 1 was released for free in the other country Paramount channels. The ratio of lying english comments you find and their inhability to answer to people internationally who know about thevlore speaks to their lack of worth, both as people and opinions.

I think it would be amusing that even if it was what he said it was, Chief using it to talk to "Cortana and find therapy feels so amusingly fitting. I also realized after the fact that they used that to make a remark about the design change, with the holo asking about her appearance when he starts struggling.
Format works given the circumstances. Loved the breakdown, definitely pointed out details I missed and made me further consider other details I did notice. Keep slaying 🤙
Chief removing his helmet isn't a problem and anyone who does have a problem with it simply have a couple of choices deal with it and move on or don't watch it its that simple.
I like Season 2 so far. I was browsing the wikis and I'm a little bothered that supposedly Riz and Vannak are supposed to be Lieutenants under Chief's command. Don't get me wrong, I am a Marine and have personally seen Staff Sergeants under the command of Sergeants if they had a higher billet, BUT an officer under enlisted command is unheard of. Also, the rank disparity between all of Silver Team is very confusing considering they were all trained together. I believe the only mention of Silver Teams' ranks were from promotional website so I hope this is retconned in the actual show. Senior Chief Petty Officer is what I would personally go with for the team so Master Chief can keep his seniority, but the experience of the other Spartans is acknowledged. Speaking of experience, they really should show the battles between the young Spartan II's and insurrectionists so we have context within the Silver Timeline for why Master Chief is so revered. Right now he's treated like a war hero, but all the series showed in Season 1 was insubordination on his part.
@@Installation00I would say that Fred is a one off within the spartan II's, only because Kurt wanted another II to be in charge officially after his demise on onyx. So while yes, Spartans can and have been promoted in lore, it appears to be a one off due to a unique situation, it doesn't sit right for me either because if any spartan can be given a commission and it's expected, why isn't chief higher ranking than MCPO
I actually enjoyed this first episode of season 2, but I think the real way that they could build a lot of Goodwill and new fans would be to make a Halo cartoon in the vein of cyberpunk
EITHER FORMAT IS GOOD. I LIKE THE LONG ONE ASWELL. Reference shots for subject narrative would be good 👍. It would just help to break up the format a bit.
I don't mind John-117 removing his helmet or armor. As you said, Spartan-IIs did this a lot in The Fall of Reach and The Flood. I just *hate* the Iron Man-camera-in-the-helmet. "That arrogant ass, Colonel Ackerson," as Halsey called him in the book, is fantastic. Kwan Ha and Makee are boring. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
I just saw ep3 and I assume you have already. I can't wait for your opinions on ep3 because I feel it's the best Halo TV episode in the entire series thus far. I love action episode just like any real Halo fans but I always felt the writing in Halo TV is kind of weak on character development and motivation and some very cringe moments in terms of certain cheeks out in the wild. However, Season 2 Episode 3 shined in character interactions and some stellar acting all around. It moved the story forward tremendously and revealed quite a few things for non-Halo fans. Just to be clear, I didn't hate season 1, but it was kind of average in terms of execution. Season 2 looks to be much much better as a SCIFI tv show about Halo the game.
I disagree with your conclusion on "I hope this does good" I don't want this show to represent Halo. I don't think it does. I think this makes halo look boring and unexciting. It makes Spartans look annoying and basically..... normal. Just normal soldiers, this is boring. I'd rather halo was done after reach. I personally don't see halo 4,5,6, and this show as Halo.
They completely skipped over Noble Team who made Cortana being with Chief even possible. I know with Ackerson, they’re going to double back and inject Spartan 3s into the series but, it really should’ve been done before Cortana was brought into the mix. I had heard arguments about Master Chief doing more dialogue than in the games to paint a better picture but, it takes away from the Chief we all know and love. The dialogue of chief in forward onto dawn was damn near perfect, he didn’t say too much and didn’t say too little.
Honestly I feel like S1 and S2 would have been better if they were stories about the Salpartan III Gamma company, than anything else. Especially based on how erratic the spartan acting tended to be in S1, and Ackerson's introduction as an antagonist in S2.

Honestly, the copyright take-downs are another reason to hate this show. I've heard the copyright issue from a few other Halo channels, I'm not sure if the show has any control over the copyright violation claims, but if they do and in effect are stopping people from reviewing their show? That tells you all you need to know about how little they care and how big of an asshole the show runners are.
The sad reality of the existence of the Halo and Fallout TV shows are that their success is nothing short of bad news for their respective series, as their success won't tell the "Big Corporate Giants" that Halo or Fallout is popular it will tell them that the respective TV show is popular giving them an excuse to shovel more non Halo or Fallout content onto us and expect us to willingly partake in it.
i wish they would make john and the other spartans *look* uncomfortable without their armor on. As john describes himself feeling naked as he reports to Major Silva in The Flood without his armor. Also wish he was a bit more pale but thats a nitpick tbf. I also wish that colonel ackerson looked nore like a military officer and less like a businessman tony stark kinda guy. Idk it feels weird seeing ackseron like that
I just want to see halo on the big screen with the lore being a focus. No video game is ever adapted perfectly into a movie or tv show. If traditional halo fans want to over complain then let them not watch. This is creating a new fan base, people dont realize the halo fan base is small. They need to intrigue as much people as possible not just you and your 2 friends who grew up playing the game. Hopefully we can introduce the flood later on.

S2 is 1000x better than S1, but the story around spartans removing their emotion reduction pills is so tiring and non interesting, the scenes where theres small talk between the spartans during missions or even when chief had to ask twice for critical info during a mission from another spartan shows how inefficient it makes them to be spartans, and lets be honest no one cares about spartans pulling pills out of their ass and suddenly having feelings 😂 that being said i love the season so far
I never played all the games, only got a pc. Never read books or anything. I am enjoying this and also can see they are making their own story. I kind of want to see where this goes.

I get why some people who might have only played the games would be upset. It is baffling that some people, including a very large halo youtuber who focuses on lore is complaining about it. Do I wish there was more action? Sure. Do I wish it felt a little bit more like halo sure. But I am supporting this because it has the potential to be a wonderful story. Name a television show that had a perfect season 1. There are very very few. If we as a community continue to put the show down, eventually it’s going to get cancelled. But maybe if more people would get past the small differences and enjoy it for the story it’s tell (which is not a complete rehash of the same story we have already seen in 2 different formats) then we might get a very rewarding experience. While only one time due to circumstances, he also has te helmet off at the very start of Halo 2, iirc (and I heard at the end of CE but idk if that's the case or how it counts). Plus, while more recent, the initial Infinite cinematic trailer where he is holding it on the Halo when he sees the flares. There is enough, imo, to back the decision.
Personally, I'm not interested in a story where the actor thinks his face is more important than the canon he has been hired to portray. We as the gamers who made the games profitable know better than an actor who hasn't played.
Lets split the hair about something no one talks about. Chief or any soldier, will remove a helmet, will remove armor, will do things behind enemy lines at times. From a soldiers point of view as well as a Halo fan from the lore perspective the chief has done all these things. We aren't watching a straight rip of the game and even in lore the Chief takes off his helmet. Yes I wish the interpretation was closer to lore, however it doesn't change my perspective that the Chief is still a soldier performing a soldiers duty. In any universe this doesn't change.

I understand your nature for what is right & good. And I not only can relate to that. I like it. But ….relax and just put them out. You DO VERY WELL ! I’m very happy you brought up Kwan possibly foretelling the flood because that was the first thing I thought of when I watched that scene. I haven't watched the episodes yet, but that "virtual brothel in an arcade???" part sounds to me like maybe it's some sort of holodeck-style dating sim for the lonely/people who want to get better at talking to others?

I've been trying to speculate on how some of the more mystical stuff works in this alternate timeline, and I'm thinking it has to reach back either to a split in the time of the Forerunners, or really the Precursors due to their use of neural physics. They're the foundational civilizations that pretty much shaped how the Halo Universe worked as we knew it, so it'd make sense for that to be the root of the changes in this show.
Helmet removal is much more acceptable in this season than the first. He is in a relatively safe environment when he does and the scenes where he is out of armour make sense cause he is on reach off duty. Although I still wish they used clever camera angles to hide his face during the scenes.
I wanted season two to go completely out into left field. Eschew everything else about the games and books' canon and give us a bizarre love triangle between Kai, Chief, and Makee in the vein of a Merchant Ivory film.
