When I was a grom in NZ back in the 80s, I dreamed of warm tropical waves with no wetsuit , hood, booties, or gloves. You, being Hawaiian, travelling the world to all these cold and some very remote places (Iceland, ekk!), gives me the shivers. I love how you get stoked with almost any surf size or condition. I lost that feeling awhile back, but watching you gives me a huge smile. I look forward to your videos. They are a breath of fresh air after having watched the same ole, same ole for many years. Your mix of enthusiasm, positive interaction with people, camera angles, paddle outs, location shots, music genres, and not just constant slow motion sets you apart. You and John John are two of the best surfers on the planet, and I wish all the best.
Thanks for the great comment! Appreciate the enjoyment of the videos! Scoring or not scoring the essence of the surf trip is what its all about for us we love surfing!
Sick vid again Nate, captures surfing vibes in NZ perfectly. Driving to remote places with not many people around looking for that wave, stunning and rugged landscapes, unruly heavy waters inhabited by various creatures of all sizes and shapes of teeth. Most importantly, sense of adventure and stoke of scoring some epic waves with a few bros out there or no one at all, warming up by the camp fire after the surf. Beats surfing busy full on touristy warm water spots with 200 ppl fighting for a wave, all day every day.
If anyone ever doubted ... you guys absolute top athletes ... this video, one of many are stunning! Reflecting back on the 50's 60's ... no one would even think about going out ... maybe there were all the pioneers of surfing to be greatly honored ... but you guys continue to blow my mind! Thank you for sharing this awesome gorgeous video!
I’ve surfed here a couple times, it’s a special spot and off the beaten track. I appreciate you keeping these locations secret, who knows how many people would be crowding these places if you were dropping location names. Much respect.
I am continually amazed at your ability to suss out quality surf in what looks like certain danger and terrifying line ups. The finished products are always top shelf from editing to soundtracks. I think it's John who is lucky to have you on board at Florence, and I wish you both continued success and blessings Nathan! P.S. I'd love to see you hit 1 milly subs by 2025! As i believe more people should see this modern version of a true explorer.
Thank you! Means alot and i appreciate the comment! Surf travel explore they all go together so well surfing is so awesome and hyped i can bring you guys along in some way shape or form!
@@NathanFlorence Just so you know Nathan what a small world it is,I was on a short Holiday up the coast ( Bonnie Hills NSW Australia) Im a bodysurfer 70 years old,one afternoon i met Craig Patton your friend who travelled with you in Sumatra when the jet ski came off its lodging ,Craig spoke of you as a very humble, friendly unassuming person, and he was one of the most humble friendly sufers i have ever met, big guy as you know, made my trip to meet the man who knows the Surfer i see on all your videos ,Koa' s as well ! how you face the power of the sea with courage is a great example of how to face life's trials and never give up like (your paddleouts ) thanks for your channel, love the content ,loved the one with your wife in Iceland the photography( editing music ) and surfing were exceptional. I always pray you will stay safe "Peace" i did ride a board for 40 years so know the feeling, when you catch a good wave and ride it to the best of your ability whatever that may be , Just a little info to do with the creation of the thruster, i lived at Narrabeen when the thruster was invented, ( surfing on a board) Simon Anderson never had a patent done for his creation ( 3 fins)that all surfers ride today ( I do not know the reason for that, maybe he knew he'd rather stay a humble shaper of boards, than to be a billionaire and lose his love of surfing or lose some of his friends for money, just a guess probably wrong, but that Simon is a very humble extremely courageous in the big stuff man, very wise it seems to :D
These drone shots are clearly the best! The undertow + the waves going the opposite way makes a very special effect. This stormy mood reminds me atlantic coast in winter
Excellent, great edit, the music and the waves love it, @the 7:09 mark, the contrast of light on the waves is amazing and it only lasts a second...what a pleasure to watch
Nathan Florence's backhand barrel riding is really second to none I'm 63 yo been surfing all my life and he is the best I've ever seen in waves of consequece absolutely brilliant
I grew up surfing here in my teens! such an amazing spot to camp and surf away from everyone and anyone! Literally gets absolutely hammered by southswell and southerly winds...so this is a pretty normal day for it. If you dont mind angry seals and the odd great white, definitely try find it. Thanks for not giving the spots up Nath! Hope youre enjoying your time in the deep south!
Amazing stuff! Often times surfing I look around and am blown away by the marine/coastal life and scenery. You're going to have to compile some of these into a full-on film of epic scenery/moments. Thanks for putting up the best content!
Very few surfers on the planet can turn up to a big heavy beach they've never surfed and absolutely send it out of the park. Nate showing what being next level is all about. He's one of the best in the world. Ever.
while your in nz see if you can get out to Marokopa where the Waitomo river hits the West Coast and head south to Kiritehere. A big unused left hander, long rides. P.S.....Awesome as Bro.
I don't usually like the POV camera shots as it tends to make the waves seem smaller or something, but these were fkn epic, it really felt like we are there with you, and decent sized too. Some of the camera work in this vid is particularly cool with some shots showing water going two different opposite directions and the surfer stationary in another, its like quantum surfing in a super position..lol
Isn't it interesting how each country/ area has its own light and water colour. I spotted all your nz Southland vids straight off. This could easily be confused for Ireland similar but different light.
Ah haaaa! You're onto it. That slab you were filming at the start becomes quite the excellent wave given a certain swell direction - not from the SW that is :) An old bodyboard treasure!
@@NathanFlorence haha yeah it looks a shambles when it’s like that but given the right combination of conditions when the stars align it’s a hefty manageable slab. You’re one of the only surfers I can imagine giving it a tickle! Glad you got some fun PK bay.
Welcome to NZ mate - loving the vid's and you guys always look like you're having a ball !!!! LOVE this vid as I have camped at this very spot and surfed this "off the beaten path" Bay many times. Keep up the good work !!
You know what, I feel like Zord doesn't get enough credit from us for how much of his participation goes into this awesome experience we all get to witness through his lens and multi-media skills so, thank you Zord for all your efforts and skills 🙏
Always loved this place, instantly recognisable by the cliffs (and the waves acutally) but can be fickle. I wonder what the other side of the headland looked like on that day. Would have been big. I wonder if Nathan went to any actual ``secret'' spots on their Catlins trip. Truly hope so. So much effort to get to them, so no worries about crowds. In one place with my youngest son and his wife (trip down long dubious road to 2 km walk, slosh through the mud, to a lovely U-shaped bay with perfect A-frames), an elephant seal swam below us. Another place said son broke his eardrum so either a trip to Dunedin or to Invercargill for treatment. Super scary.
Nathan f i grew up surfing this wave from about 15 and up, with a hardy locals crew only maybe 15 guys , all charged this place , had it so perfect and mechanical you wouldnt belive . All before the crowds and international pros 🧐😂 Magic set up ! Live the Dream mate 🤙🏼 Pk fuckin rules!
Nate keep up the good work keep the crew stoked keep the wife happy all is good the Florence equipment is the best would like to see you Back in Tahit this time of the year warm water slabs
Nates almost up to half a mil on da YT! Like and share, create extra you tube accounts to follow him on, whatever you got to do to please our core lord and waver!
Looks like a washing machine to me out there how crazy! Be careful! This is beautiful footage just mesmerizing, lovin it! ❤ every video you guys are havin a blast, thats awesome! ❤
It would be cool to see you and your brothers train with some coastguard rescue swimmers to see how surfers hold up to that type of experience. Probably would kill it.
I’m so happy that you went to that place! I used to live down in the Deep South and loved how dramatic the coast is. I kept meaning to comment to check it out but kept forgetting!! Looks like you go some good ones :)
