I enjoy that she throws that line about furthering the girls education and not his back at him when he asks for help with his social skills at the Garden Party

I think Alexander "showing-off" his knowledge is his way of trying to impress Charlotte. 😉

Colbourne can be such a smart a double s….always correcting Charlotte or trying to remind her of her duties. I actually find it endearing though….he’s learning too, whether he realizes it or not! 🥰

She puts him off his game, that's for sure! She stands up to him, speaks her mind, and continues to do what she thinks is best for the girls. And I love that all of these scenes, from the interview forward are moments when he's falling in love with her ❤️

His expressions are so cute, personal as u said, (when he said 'my dread of the occasion has lessened) but also a bit of joking/teasing but also sometimes a but of sarcasm or bluntness (like when he said on cliff "you did not wait to hear my answer" after interview, or "you've already made an observation might as well share it") the latter was less sarcastic/blunt , but does anyone else detect it sometimes? Think it might be like said in community forum post social shyness or defense mechanism bc he's been isolated so long ...but his 500 voice/tones seem to be more warm, and friendly and less blunt the more he talks to her! But the trolling ponds reply is like making fun of her lol But in a joking soft manner 😊😉...it's one of the best lines of s2!

@@aprilrose6630 He is intelligent and very quick witted. There is a, dry wit to his banter that is very engaging. Then as his feeling towards Charlotte deepen, it change to a thoughtful attention to her words or affectionate teasing . The search in woods together for Leo was a good example. . ...Love those moments you pointed out too.

@@communicating123 yess I love his dry wit and banter with her right away bc it seems he views her as a friend/equal right away and as if he's having genuine, real friendly interactions with her, like Jane an d Rochester,. He dud seem a bit Darcy ish being a bit blunt/aloof (ive read others say) but that could be defense mechanism/withdrawn/reserved bc of his past and how he's been treated, and not how he "really " is we hope? And his banter/intelligence isn't too demeaning/condescending, (like Sidney SOMEtimes could be, not always), and he's being more gentle/joking with char while also trying to converse with I think what he could tell right away was a kindred spirit, a nice/kind , witty and playful/humorous, gentle and sweet, sensitive but also intelligent and deeply feeling, emotional, introspective person that Charlotte brings this out again in him, or soon will!!! Love then how he listens to what she says , adheres to it and does it bc he knows she's right, it makes HER happy and HIM bc he loves her 😉😊🤩😍👌

@@aprilrose6630 When Mr. Colbourne says, "you've already made the observation, you might as well share it," it reminds me of people who will respond to a request like "Can I do such and such" and the other person says, "I don't know, can you?" in a very condescending tone. The reason being that they should have said "May I do such and such." It seems rather superior and pedantic, but also shows his competitiveness. He just has to show her what he knows. His several references to the genus names of flowers or snails also appears to be showing off. When he does this, he appears a bit of a prig. However, I can't help forgiving him when he hangs his head like a naughty little boy when she scolds him. He knows he's misbehaved and he's sorry. Also, his vulnerability when he presses himself against the door jamb to watch the dance lesson or confesses his past history and admits he was afraid of what she would think of him are equally endearing. How can he be so opinionated and confident one moment and so vulnerable the next?

Leonora tries to draw her father in to their activity but he “declines”. Such a look of quiet disappointment on Leonora’s face…
@susanfirth9883
@susanfirth9883 2 года назад
And I believe that look of disappointment is what draws him out to the picnic. He’s been sitting in his office thinking about how he could spend more time with the girls. And then he just suddenly walks by the picnic. It’s what’s so beautiful about the writing, each moment built on the next ❤️

@m.layfette6249 2 года назад
I would not call her mean, as such broken hearted. She's lost the life and family she's ever known. Only to be living a life devoid of love, affection, warmth and light. Her uncle is grieving, while he continues to torment himself on the loss of his wife. In fact Augusta and Alexander are just 2-peas of the same pod.
