I don’t know I mean I really love this song , it is simplistic but I love the vibe ! I’m 50 now and was a teen in mid 80s and I wasn’t aware of Sandra at the time she was making most of these songs but the eighties vibe and sound is universal and I just love her music , I was a big fan of enigma back in the early or mid 90s and I think she was doing some of that with her husband maybe first time I heard her but going back the past few years listening to her music I mean I’m blown away and honestly I feel like I’m back in the eighties when I listen to her music not because I remember it but because it’s so eighties and just fun music it takes me back and It makes me feel nostalgic !
Both her 2nd album Mirrors" and "Into a secret Land" are my fave ones by her.Every song is good.Michel Cretu produced good highly produced German '80s atmosperic danceable music.
@@mikekaraoke yes i was also thinking of that one too.(LVDLuna)3rd album is a good grower.I like Around my heart/Secret Land is fantastic and fab well suited video.Heaven can wait too. i Also like esp like from 2nd album "2 lovers tonight/In the mirror of love/Midnight man (the single version). You"travel" with this kind of music.
As with "Everlasting Love" I adore the 12" version of this song, you'll know what's missing from this version when you listen to that. It has a fabulous opening, the mix is tighter and her vocal soars. Much better!
Johnny Wanna Live, Don't be Aggressive, One More Night, Forever. These are the ones where you still can confirm she never fails. Absolutely great songs where the unique talent of Sandra and the genius of Michael are at their best.
The first song by Sandra that you probably didn't like so much. I hope you still make a music video reaction from Sandra someday. She still had so many titles, e.g. : "Stop for a Minute or Johnny wanna live !" Greetings from Germany
One of the writers of this song, Hubert Kah: "Wenn Der Mond Die Sonne Berührt". German synthpop. Very, very cool , Dereck. Just try it!!! Greetings from Belgium
If that's 'The Picture' - it's amazing! I requested that Hubert Kah song on a UK '80s radio show in 2016. They loved it, then played nearly the entire 'Tensongs' album and some of their German-language vocal songs too ('Goldene Zeiten'/'Golden Times').
@@EmpressTouch Yes, it is. But IMHO the German version is a bit better in so far as the lyrics fit better to the music. It's important to listen to the right version. The later "Reconstructed By Blank & Jones" version is missing the funky second half of the guitar solo...which is a shame. Instead it crossfades into something like a "reverse reverb" effect. That's why I suggest to react to the good old 7 inch single version (uploaded by "Hubert Kah - Thema", less then 3:30 minutes long).
I understand what you mean by the structure of the song which looks the same, no matter when the song was released. It's actually a signature in Sandra's work which comes from her Arabesque years. (yes I was surprised too when I fall into the disco band's catalogue, it's one of the rarest things she kept from these early years) Talking about Arabesque, why don't you try some of their hits ? "In For A Penny, In For A Pound", "Midnight Dancer", "Marigot Bay", "City Cats", "Plastic Heart, "Time To Say Goodbye", "Sunset In New York", "Tropical Summer Night", "In The Heat Of A Disco Night", "Dancing In The Fire Of Love"... And good news !!! Sandra is back in the business after 5 long years of silence !!! For the first time, her last album "Stay In Touch" (you should do a reaction to the whole album too) was released on vinyl, a new studio album is on the table and she's back on stage and touring. Her fans can't wait for 2023 !
@@o.l9806i will see her for the first time on October 31st in Dortmund Germany. She took a break as she was battling breats cancer but she seems to be better now again.
And she's playing the US this month with Thomas Anders of Modern Talking!! Been a Sandra nut since 1988/1989 when "Everlasting Love" was played on this NYC dance music station and I flipped...it coulda been 3-4 years earlier in 1985 if "Maria Magdalena" was released in the US as a single, but it wasn't...never saw her live before...I am NOT missing this, she rarely plays the US, she is one of my all-time faves...have her whole catalogue just about, love Arabesque too...one later track I love is her cover of the Hooters' "All You Zombies"...that whole "Art Of Love" album from 1997 is one of her masterpieces...she wrote most of the lyrics herself & it's quite personal, one song about her brother...
The chorus in the album version sounds much better. I remember loving it on first listening and being a little disappointed that they changed the chorus exactly on my favourite part...
Totally agree with you. I also prefer the album version. The male voice of Hubert Kemmler fits perfectly with Sandra's one. I remember the first time i heard it when i bought the LP, it was my favourite song too ! I was a little bit disappointed at the chorus when the single came out but the video helped me to forget it....so nice memories !
Please react to her single Around My Heart from 1989, great song and cute look in the video, also from ''Into A Secret Land'' and imo the best single off that album.
Hi dereck taken a look at Don't Cry (the breakup of the world) 1986 official video. This videoclip with Sandra is filmed in the studio that's inside Michael and Sandra's house and you see Michael producing the song.
А как Сандра и вообще европейская поп-музыка воспринимается американцами? Мне всегда было интересно это узнать. Я с начала 80-х всю эту музыку впитал в себя, с детства.
This song is my least favourite from Sandra ...you should try " Around my heart" .. or "Stop for a minute" or "Johnny wanna live" ... And then "don't be aggressive" .. and you are right about her vocals in we"ll be together. They are too high in this and it sounds a bit childish . Totally agree with you
@@DereckReacts I wasn't sure when i first heard it, as it was a bit different and not as punchy but then it grew on me and now i love it, although it is not one of her very best.
When it was released back in '89, Sandra Lauer & Michael Cretu just got married in '88, they both left Germany and started to live in Ibiza together. When I first heard this song, I was afraid that it would be a duo Sandra/Michael instead of a solo Sandra song since Michael is very much present in the chorus, maybe more so than in previous singles like "Heaven Can Wait" or "Secret Land" but finally no it was just released as a Sandra single and I was relieved. Even though I love that they work together, I was still rooting for a Sandra solo carreer but since they were just married I was afraid that "We'll Be Together" would be released as a Sandra & Michael single, silly me. :) Like Most "Into The Secret Land" songs, it was a change in her style of music and I didn't fell in love right away with those songs like I did with the previous singles from the album "Mirrors" but like you said these songs are slow burners and now I love them all.
@@euqitsatnavnait365 Thanks for clearing that up. Now that you wrote it it makes perfect sense I know. But back in 1989 I didn't knew who Hubert K was and as Michael was her producer and husband I honestly thought he was the one singing on her records. And especially since her wedding pictures were all over the magazines at that time...
Hubert K was very well known in Germany but he was completely unkown in France where I live. Now that I know Michael's voice pretty well (I bought his Samurai album) I still have trouble knowing where he sings and where Hubert K sings on Sandra's songs. :)
You mentioned ABBA here, saying how they have almost no bad songs .. That is correct .. So WHERE ARE THEY ??? .. More ABBA please Dereck .. You're starving us !
Absolutely. So many great songs missing: Tiger, Tropical Loveland, Bang-A-Boomerang (with OFFICIAL VIDEO!!!), Lovelight, Intermezzo No. 1. He was in Hawaii last week, so how would it be with Happy Hawaii???
@@Lisa-M Would love him to do a reaction to any of tbose songs you mentioned, and particularly Bang-A-Boomerang .. But I wrote the comment out of sheer frustration .. Like you've said previously, there's probably close to zero chance that Dereck will even read it, let alone take any notice of my request.
@@wayne_twentyfive Perhaps we have a little chance to get noticed in this video because there are not so many comments here. But the hope is sinking with every week without ABBA reaction. Today it's ten weeks since the last one. Wanna bet that there is a Mylene Farmer reaction on Thursday?
@@Lisa-M I wouldn't bet against a Mylene Farmer reaction this Thursday .. It's almost as guaranteed as the sun rising that day .. But sadly, his ABBA reactions now only come around about as often as Halley's Comet.😒
I m a fan of Sandra but I don't think you ll like to hear more from her. Maybe Hiroshima but don't pay attention to the other singles. You have listened the best with 'In the heat of the night' or 'Secret land'.
I disagree, there are so many great singles he hasn't heard. Around My Heart, Stop For A Minute, Midnight Man, Johnny Wanna Live, One More Night, Don't Be Aggressive, Life May Be A Big Insanity...and not even starting on great albumtracks.
Strange that you've reacted several Sandra hits already and you still stick to Cretu as backing vocals. Instead, the songwriter Hubert Kemmler (or Kah, as solo later) did the backing vocals 99% of the time. Just to make sure: Hubert is the young, nice looking guy with the guitar in most of the clips. Cretu has moustache (and beard) and always wares big glasses. For Cretu, check Sandra clip 'You and I (Betoskatin)' or the Cretu clip 'Samurai' ...but this I already mentioned earlier in another comment, but it seems you don't read them otherwise you already knew this.
Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Sandra. This song "We'Ll Be Togehter (89' Remix) was released in January 1989 as the third single from her third album "Into A secret Land" and ranked no.13 in the French TOP 50 and no.9 in Germany. For the 45 RPM release, the song was remixed and shortened. This is the version I prefer the most with the long version (12 "extended). The music video was shot partly in Spain (Ibiza) and in France (Cannes). This is the second time that Sandra and especially for this album has shot part of the clip in France! She had already done it in 1988 for "Secret Land" by shooting it at Mont Saint Michel (Normandy). You did a react on this one. Namely that Sandra has French origins from her father Robert Lauer (Alsatian) and has dual nationality. For your next react I recommend you "Midnight Man" (1987) my favorite, "Around My Heart" (1989), "(Life May Be) A Big Insanity" and "One More Night" (1990), "Don't Be Aggressive" and "Johnny Wanna Live" (1992) but it's so hard to choose with Sandra, her songs are so good! Thanks for your great job our American pal. 👍🇫🇷
