The goal of the method is to teach students to play beginning band instruments. He discusses the unique challenges in writing a band method and also describes how his method is unique. The band curriculum is preceded by a recorder curriculum that acts as a recruitment tool for students who have the opportunity to play in the school band the year after learning recorder. This method also provides opportunities for students to play and perform in the first week of their lessons and a support Web site to keep the students motivated and engaged.
