I remember in the 90s doing a whole album for a punk band with only an $800 budget. We would record in a low budget studio for $12 an hour, mix and master for about $200-300 and print 100 units of cassettes for about $200-400 as well. We could go as low as 20 units on cassette and 50 on vinyl.Indie cassette manufacturing was affordable but CDs and vinyl were expensive. Getting out there was the bigger issue but they developed hundreds of fans and sold tapes and t-shirts at the shows.
