The Sangean ATS-909X2 AM FM LW Shortwave SSB AIR Band Portable Radio has many improvements over its predecessor. Expect Excellent FM, AIR, Shortwave, and MW reception with the on board antennas. The Auto Bandwidth control is handy on some signals that fade in, and out slowly. During this Daytime Shortwave Band Scan I am surprised with the sudden volume improvement on SSB. This may have happened because the 20m signals were nice, and strong.

Overall, this is a wonderful receiver if yours does not ship with spurious tones. Of course adding external antennas will remove this. I'm a fan of the Larger LCD, Auto Bandwidth, FM, AIR Band, and the Upgraded Speaker. Rock on!

8992 kHz is one the US military SW stations. They broadcast intermittently with encoded messages similar to a number station. It’s fun to listen when you catch them broadcasting.

Also 11.175 USB.That is the main freq for Andrews Air Force Base.Been listening to it for years.

cool radio. I told myself I was done buying shortwave radios, but I really like the fine and non-muted tuning steps. btw, when tuning in morse code at 5khz and even 1 khz steps you can skip right over the narrow CW signals.

Very responsive on SW signals! I always am pleased when you drop new videos. It relieves me of all the depressing news videos I normally see in my RU-vid feed! You Rock Todderbert!

The issue with the 909x2 is you can't adjust the bandwidth on sideband, very helpful when there's two frequencies on sideband in close proximity to each other, sideband mode is also useful even for stations that are on AM especially when there is interference or another station too close to each other, AM Sync won't help you with this. Sideband also has an issue where the Audio is much lower than it is on AM, so you have to turn the volume up a lot more to get the same audio as on AM. and if using the built in telescopic antenna you can and often do get FM broadcast breakthrough on SW and Air band. And it has yet to be seen if the encoder has been improved over the 909x.

The Sangean ATS909 X2 has very poor reception on the MW band. This is best exemplified by finding one radio station that has a weak signal and comparing it to a Sony radio receiver. The difference is huge.

For the Price it's listed at and it's flaws and issues completely kill it for me. Not being able to adjust the bandwidth in SSB is a huge one, as well as having FM breakthrough on SW and Air Band when using the included telescopic antenna is another one. Sideband is nice to have when you find a station in AM that has interference just above or just below the frequency (or both) that would normally interfere with the station when in AM mode. It's like a more adjustable AM Sync. Not being able to adjust the bandwidth sort of kills being able to use Sideband in this manner.

Hej I agree with you not being able to set different bandwidth in single sideband is very bad on such an expensive radio because when you can do it, it really helps so i really do not understand why it does not exist on this radio. Furthermore, I personally do not really like speaker sound on this radio it has a very high-pitched sound it sounds very harsh for my ears. But no radio is perfect out there but I own the Tecsun H-501x Tecsun PL-990x and the little black jewel PL-330 and many more radio devices. My favorite radio is definitely Tecsun H-501x a very sensitive radio it has very nice sound but of course it has two speakers with stereo sound and you have bandwidth control in SSB. I also own the SIHUADON D-808 a very nice radio a much cheaper radio than Sangean ATS-909X2 but in Sihuadon D-808 you have SSB Bandwidths control you can set it to 4K, 3K, 2.2K, 1.2K, 1K and 500 Hz. So there are many cheaper radio devices that have bandwidth control in SBB mode. But absolutely I think Sangean 909x2 is a nice radio with a beautiful display but good looks are not everything a radio must be able to perform well as well take care and have a nice weekend.

@@NTPTM I usually just plug my shortwave radios up to my amp and have the audio from them going through my home theater system which gets around any kind of sound deficiency the built in speakers may have. Also I do still use the internal speakers of my Eton Elite Executive and ATS 25 but when I'm home and listening to shortwave they're hooked up to my audio system. I also use a Raspberry PI 400 with an RTL-SDR v3 and a 7 inch screen running SDR++ (the screen has speakers but are very tinny sounding) that I pair to my amp by Bluetooth.

@@madmax2069 Hej absolutely I do that sometimes I also have external speakers that I plug in to get better sound in my radio devices and then you have much better sound when you are home. But you do not always have that opportunity or want to take too much with you when you are out in nature I usually listen to shortwave out in nature in the summer away from anything that disturbs the shortwave bands. But if we talk sound in a shortwave radio the Tecsun H-501x it has wonderful sound it is a very sensitive radio and it has much more attractive features. I've had my Tecsun H-501x soon for a year and love that radio but I also own the Tecsun PL-990x and it is also a wonderful shortwave radio and have the Tecsun PL-330a nice trio to own. But agree with you for sure you can get much better sound in radio devices with better speakers and amplifiers take care and have a nice day.

Did you end up returning this radio like you mentioned on your other video v=9w62cj3Y-FQ Obviously it performs better with external antenna.

It does, but the spurious tones were too much on MW, and was returned. I have the 909X which I use external antennas on with the same MW/SW performance. I do miss the awesome FM/AIR performance the X2 has.

If you recorded this in May, then 12:33pm in Chicago would be 5:33pm UTC. It would be 6:33pm in London all right (is that what you meant?) but London is one hour ahead of UTC when DST is in operation.

Delayed Recording. A few months back.... Should have put the exact date in the video: February 28th, 2022. It was CST.
