Isn't it odd how more and more people are choosing to sleep rough when the economy is declining and public services are being cut. What an odd coincidence.

A wicked mindset from a privileged person indeed. She is truly evil.

Everything she says repulses me but this one cut deep, a few years a go I was friends with a young homeless man, I could stand outside the supermarket and talk to him for hours, he had a heart of gold and even though he was out on the streets after his mother died and the useless council didn't help him at all, he was still hopeful he would find someone who would help him eventually, he died from pneumonia after a bad cold snap and the hospital booted him out with nowhere to go, he didn't have a choice in anything, he was failed on every possible front, hearing the home secretary of all people try to paint targets on the backs of people like that made me well up, it's too much and too cruel.

A tent ,to a homeless person this time of year ,is the difference between life and death . Braverman without a doubt the mist despicable and heartless Home Secretary ever .Homelessness is most certainly not a "lifestyle choice ".

She is insane, there is no other reasonable explanation for such behaviour, other than her being completely and utterly evil.

The thought of anyone living on the streets or in a tent in a British winter fills me with horror.

I wonder which is worse: Suella Braverman’s utterly deranged inhumanity or Rishi Sunak’s indifference to her inhumanity?🤔

I used to work with homeless people with complex needs for a company called St Mungo's. We watched our funding get slashed the entire time I worked there, it's impossible to keep on top of the situation because of the lack of options. I want to rant about this right now but I need to calm myself down.

As a child in the uk after the war our village was occasionally visited by what were then 'men of the road' - frequently those for after the war had never been able to return to society for whatever reason and seemed destined to roam the roads stopping here and there. They asked nothing but a mug of tea - my mother who had been deported from her home in Poland to one of Stalin's gulags in Siberia before joining Ander's army had seen just about every horror you can think of - she always fed them well and helped in any small way she could. We ourselves were a poor family and I asked her once why she did it. 'You never know what is in front of you' she said - 'one day that could be you or your son or your brother - we have to help everyone who needs help'. Where has that compassion gone? Why is the world so evil now?

What have we become? To deal with shameful consequences of public services neglect by focusing on the optics and not the cause of their inhumanity makes me ashamed to be British.

Imagine being so twisted that you decide the best people to attack next are literally pepole who you have already taken EVERYTHING from and who don't even have a place to hide. It's absolutely disgraceful that she is still in position. This shows more than ever that Sunak either agrees with her or is a WEAK man.

Suella being this cruel is a choice. Tories dismantling the safety net is a choice. Homelessness has complex reasons which Suella isn't capable of understanding. She's made Priti Patel look like Mother Teresa. It's no mean feat.

Around 70% of homeless people in the UK have 2 diagnosed mental health issues, close to 90% have at least 1. These are people who need help not dismissal and contempt.

My heart goes out to this woman. I spent six months living in a council garage as I could not afford the rent on my home after a motorcycle crash

Let's not forget the amount of empty properties that are owned by rich investors (often foreign), and kept as assets and collateral, instead of being used as homes. 80,000 empty properties just in London, that are owned by the super rich and are left to sit empty just so that they can borrow money against it as an asset. Whilst the people that are from this country are left to rot.

I went to the housing department in my local area (Cheshire), asked for help when I came out of hospital, after having four heart bypass surgery's, as I couldn't pay my rent and ended homeless, the reception told me they couldn't help me because I'm not classed as in need, they then rang the police on me to have me removed from the building, i had to go straight back to work even though I'd had my chest opened days earlier, Rule Britannia..

Those charities need to take her court if she insists on this vile breach of basic human dignity.

Oh the irony of her accusing tens of thousands of people marching against human suffering of being 'hateful', while she spent the entirety of her conference speech - and most of her political career - spouting bile and hate, and causing needless division.

There is a peculiar and incomprehensible dark void in Braverman's chest where a heart should be. In my life's interactions with other people, I have never met anyone (even people I disagree with) who could say the things she says in the tone she says them. I see she is a mother. I pity her children.

The taxpayers are paying for Suella's "lifestyle", many of them probably in the verge of becoming homeless. It's about time she tries the homeless lifestyle for a couple of years to develop her career by relating to the people she is supposed to serve..

I kind of feel like I must be dreaming, but no, this is reality and the Home Secretary of the UK is a parody of a Disney villain. I am stunned; this is just cruelty for cruelty's sake. I’m being made homeless on Thursday. Over 25 years of working, 12 years sober and this is the reward I get. I’m not special or different and if I can’t do it, no one can. The same fate awaits the rest of you for working hard, nothing.

Charities have sought to provide just a little shelter from the elements for these people and this excuse for a human being wants to ban them. Would that be in exchange for a flat or permanent place of residence at her expense then. What pit did she crawl out of.

I remember being homeless for months on the streets of London but the local councils wouldn’t even let me live in a homeless hostel as a British citizen because I wasn’t from London even though I had valid reasons for having to move from the north of England. And to add insult to injury I’ve got a diagnosis for high functioning autism… These people are so out of touch with reality! I’ve also seen research papers that estimate that 70% of all homeless people in the UK have autism, I don’t know if that’s true but if it is it’s disgusting that vulnerable people are being treat this way.

Incredible how just moving across London doomed her. What a mess. You could almost hear the endless phone calls, unanswered emails, rejection after rejection, red tape and bureucracy choking her and everyone else in need of a helping hand and a clear path to getting back on their feet. No doubt a lot of penpushers earned their wages as they passed her about like yesterday's Metro.

This is sickining. My fellas mate is sleeping in our box room or he would be on the streets. He has a job (minimum wage) and cant find even a room to rent as people are wanting £750, FOR A ROOM. He is chipping in £300 a month and without this would would have to give up our 3 bed as our rent is £1500 (other 3 beds are going for £2000).

Not everyone chooses to live that lifestyle. They are driven to do so because of the unfair housing system!!! That woman should try living homeless and see how long she lasts!!! 😡☠️

Clearly a life style choice to live on the street. It is one I have often pondered? Should I live in my warm home, with water, lights, cooking facilities, toilet, bath, comfy bed, washing machine etc. Or should I give it all up to live in a tent on the street?

I was reading a NY Times article today about US veterans who served in the Middle East, developed mental health issues, PTSD etc, and were dishonourably discharged from the army. Most of them couldn't hold a job, had to live on the streets, couldn't access any veterans' healthcare or pension (because of the way they were discharged) with a lot of them self-harming, contemplating or committing suicide. To tell these people 'you living on the street is a lifestyle choice' is disgraceful. But we've come to expect nothing less from her.

Thia ladys story is absolutely heartbreaking. I know the "losing it all in a moment from no fault of my own".

It is not a personal choice it is a political one the homeless population has over doubled since the Tories got in.

Making a shortage of housing has been a Con policy in order to increase the value of home owners properties and increase the rents that private landlords can charge. This was why Thatcher sold off council housing and stopped councils using the money from these sales to build further housing. The natural outcome of a shortage of housing is also homelessness.

Do you know this morning I got out of my warm, comfortable bed and I thought "I need a change. F**k it, I'm going to go and live in a tent". I would love to be in a dilapidated tent on a hard concrete pavement in the cold and rain. I don't need a shower or access to a toilet. I want to have the thrill of wondering whether each day I am going to be beaten up or have my meagre possessions stolen or die of hypothermia. Okay, I am undoubtedly barking mad, but nowhere near as mad as the Satanic Braverman!

Suella Braverman cannot possibly be human. I hate to think what horrific experiments are happening in the lab she escaped from.

She and her boyfriend Rishi need to go . They have no idea how hard it is to get housing .

I have had friends sleep in my spare room for a couple of months. They needed a little time to get some cash together, and their heads. They were homeless, if I didn’t let them kip at mine then they would have likely ended up in the street, maybe losing their job as a consequence. When I was a young lad I ended up on a mate’s sofa for a month after a relationship ended and I didn’t have the cash for a deposit. It’s easy to end up homeless, just takes some bad luck.

I had a friend we served together he lasted longer than me, he left the army ended up homeless and in the end committed suicided, this woman needs to be removed from power we have to help the homeless, vets and all the others our country fails these people of which many have fallen on hard times because of this government. in the coming months i am hoping i can start selling some pictures (i am a photographer) and raise money for charities to look after our vets, and all other homeless, as this government are only thinking about themselves no one else.

Just as the pandemic hit I was literally weeks away from this exact scenario, my housing benefit had been stopped and I had no savings whatsoever. My bills outweighed what I was on at the time and I was really scared. For her to come out and say homelessness is a "lifestyle choice" is beyond depraved and massively out of touch, she could never know what people on the lowest rung have to endure because much like the other Tories she was fed with a silver spoon and therefore doesn't cross their mind. It's no coincidence that homelessness rates rise whenever they are in power, the same happened in the latter years of Thatcher. How would she like it if she had everything stripped away from her and had to scratch and claw at everything just to see a day through?

She thinks her cold and heartless nature appeals to a certain constituency when in truth it appeals to no one but a very tiny and obscure minority amongst which she numbers.. I agree we have great need of new legislation in this country. Legislation that outlaws cruelty unto others.

every city has entire blocks of flats -- free housing -- to rehabilitate ex-prisoners. the kind of people that are incapable of being civilised and sorting themselves out. somehow, that kind of housing is affordable and justified.

I have been homeless several times in my life. None of times I was homeless were by "choice". I remember knocking on ALL the doors and getting no help. I was turned away from my doctor, mental health, social services and even a local church.

10:13 i can feel this woman. She didn't have the tools in herself to cope, and instead of stepping in and helping before she lost everything.

I once proudly served in the armed forces, now I am ashamed that I ever put the uniform on. Once, I was willing to die for this country, now I am willing to die to protect those I love from what people like Braverman have turned the country into.
