I listened to Sanity x ABCT's first episode, OCD Assessment and Treatment with Dr. Jonathan Abramowitz. I originally listened to it on Spotify, but decided to leave a review here on RU-vid. I found the discussion on what OCD is, the different kinds of OCD, and where the name comes from incredibly fascinating. There's a lot of stigma surrounding this particular disorder, so it's really informative that Dr. Abramowitz discussed what defines an obsession and a compulsion, and gave specific examples of the different ways they can present. I also really appreciated that Dr. Abramowitz talked about the different factors that distinguish OCD from other anxiety disorders, like GAD. This is a fantastic episode to listen to if you have an interest in clinical psychology, and more specifically, OCD!

I watched Sanity x ABCT: OCD Assessment and Treatment with Dr. Jonathan Abramowitz (Episode 1). I really appreciate that we have so many platforms right now to get to know more about different disorder so that we can dive more into it. I watched it in youtube because I just can’t concentrate when I just listen it in Podcast or Spotify. I’m interested about obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) because I was always joking that I got OCD when I’m keeping all the things clean or organized. However, after watching this video, there are 2 main component of OCD which is the intrusive thought and the behavior to erase the thought. I think a lot of us may only focus on the behavior like keep washing hands to keep germs away, but forgot the intrusive thought part. I want to work in pre-school to 3rd grade. I think the video is very useful for me, especially it provides some insight for me to assess them. However, the children that in the future I will work with may not be able to talk very concise about how they feel or why did they have that specific thought. I really like the way how Dr. Jonathan Abramowitz identify what OCD is. He also differentiates GAD which is generalized anxiety disorder and OCD. They are different because GAD focus on the fears that about real life circumstances. It is very useful as a teaching tool because it provides a lot of insights about OCD from Dr. Abramowitz by having different kinds of real life examples.

After being given an assignment to listen to the following podcast, I listened to SanityxABCT: OCD Assessment and Treatment with Dr. Jonathan Abramowitz (Episode 1) through the RU-vid channel. As a listener deeply interested in psychology and mental health, I found this podcast episode to be both enlightening and engaging. Something that stuck out to me while listening was Dr. Abramowitz's emphasis on evidence-based treatments for OCD. He discusses the importance of utilizing exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, highlighting its effectiveness in helping individuals manage their symptoms and regain control of their lives. Dr. Abramowitz also addresses common misconceptions surrounding OCD and offers valuable insights into the stigma often associated with the disorder. This episode can definitely be used as a helping tool due to the explanation of the disorder, how it affects one diagnosed, and how it can be assessed and treated.
