Just let em cool and use an old shop vac. That's what I do. Did a similar fire brick install but did not use the metal bar. Added another row brick on front and had to cut about an inch of 3 center bricks. Fully brick lined. Nice work. Thanks for video.

I just got my grill from Costco and haven't used it yet. Two questions: Does anyone use a tray to lift charcoal or wood off of the firebrick? Second, where does all the grease go from cooking? Anyway to install a bucket or trap? I like the video.

Was just going to recommend you coat with oil. Got mine from Costco about 10yrs ago. Plan to buy another one but go bigger or custom. 👍🏾

I was setting up to make my own but this was to good of a deal to pass up. Maybe in the future I’ll make a larger one.

Firebricks keep oxygen away from the fire and will cause it to smolder yielding "dirty" smoke. You NEED air flow for proper fire management. That's a REAL serious flaw of the Costco model.

I purchased my grill over 5 years ago at Costco and didn’t install bricks cus I didn’t know about this. But I knew if I was to cook, the fire would lack oxygen by having the charcoal laying flat on the surface of the grill. Therefore, I had to drive to the manufacturer shop of the grill and purchase a stand that allows oxygen to reach the bottom of the charcoal. The manufacturer of the grill is actually in Santa Maria, CA., and I only live a 2 hour drive away. But I had my grill in a storage over the winter and now have rust on the cooking grate. I don’t know what to do.

@@pangelo4023 Get a wire brush or attach a wire cup brush to a drill. Make sure to wear eye protection. Clean it off well with water and a cloth towel that you can depose of. Don’t want metal shaving on the grill surface. Very important, dry the grill surface completely. I light a fire and wait for the fire die down or go out. I then spray vegetable oil on the grill surface (Not cooking spray) but a spray bottle set to mist. Wipe it in. Cover it up! Hope this helps.

I believe there is a law that says you can only cook with red oak on a Santa Maria grill. 🤷‍♂️ that’s just what I heard.

My Costco grill's grate is not level. it's about 1.5 inches higher on the crank handle side. Does anyone know how to level up the grate?
@thehomieflores
@thehomieflores Месяц назад
If you lower it all the way down you can adjust the wire holding the grate. It's a 5 second fix.

Hi Joe, That's a great video presentation. Can you use Avocado Canola oil to season inside of the box and aslo can I use the oil for the grates or has to be flaxseed oil for that. I bought one today at Costco...Thanks for your help bro. Go Dodgers....

My Costco grill has two small holes in the back to allow airflow for the coals/firewood, do you have problems with the firebrick’s blocking airflow to fuel your fire?
@JoeriksGarage
@JoeriksGarage 2 года назад
My understanding is those hole are for drainage. I have no issues with airflow, enjoy your grill.

Hey Joe, I forgot to ask you, do you have a Blackstone flat top grilled ? If you do have one what kind of oil do you recommend for seasoning on this particular Blackstone grill. Once again thanks for your time and have a safe Independence holiday.

I do have a blackstone grill and did do a video on seasoning. Easy way to use Canola Spray oil and it works great.

I purchased my grill at Costco over 5 years ago and didn’t know anything about installing bricks at the time. I didn’t even season it; I just started a fire and threw some meat on it. 🤪😂 But I would like some advice. I had my grill in a storage over a year now and the cooking grate is full of rust. What I would like to know is how do I remove the rust. Or do I just make a fire, add some canola oil, and hit it with a wire brush, or have to just purchase a new cooking grate? It’s cheaper to go the canola oil and wire brush route but I don’t know if it will be safe for the food. But this is a great video, man. You just gained a new follower. 👍

Thanks for watching. Fire brick is just an added protection, I'm sure you'll get lots of life on your grill either way. My grill sits outside and the grates aways get a bit of rust. I normally clean them well with a wire brush, heat up the grill and spray canola oil few time before cooking. I also spray the grates after I finish cooking to keep a coat on between cooks. Hope that helps.

Did you have any problem with the paint peeling? When i seasoned mine the paint peeled on one spot on each side and on the front. Disappointing.

Did you have to cure the grill first before the brick install? Or can you do it from the get go

I cure it at the same time. I oil the bottom then installed the brick, then Oil the rest. Hope that helps.

Hello Joe, how many fire bricks did you use total?
@JoeriksGarage

Mine is 20”x30” grill, it took 19 firebricks. I didn’t put any on the front side so add 3 more if you want them all around. Good Luck.
