Rums and Cigars from Cuba are so good that even the cheap ones are better than some expensive foreign brands. The Communist Gov prioritize the quality of this business and they pay well their engineers if not they will leave the country; I have bought this Santiago de Cuba Rum and is superb! My respect to you Sr, great review!

My friend I was born and raised in Santiago, the cradle of the light rum worldwide, you are tasting the very finest Rum there is period, that new Santiago 11 years extra añejo Is a BOSS. Strong yet smooth, ( not diluted in sugars like many rums are ) Santiago Rums ( from the youngest to the King of Kings Ron Santiago 500 ) are just simply unique. That rum you’re reviewing is my very very favorite.

I quite agree-Santiago de Cuba 11y.o. old version is absolutely fantastic! Once i got given that on my birthday and t'was a great "sipper" for me) As far as i remember it hadn't lasted more than a week or so. I do pity it's no longer available in stores(((

I haven't had the 12yr but the 15yr was my first dip into an aged rum and I immediately fell in love with the flavors. So now I'm on the quest to find other flavorful rums.

15yo Santiago de Cuba….?!! Wasn’t aware there was one. They have a 3,8,11 & 12. Even before Diageo owned them, think there was a 20yo. Maybe a 25. But never seen a 15yo

I haven't seen the 11 but I just picked up the 12 year. I noticed you mentioned in another comment that the 11 year is better balanced. I'm enjoying the 12 yr so far, but it is a bit sweet for me - my first impressions were butterscotch and nuttiness. I got it cause I wanted to see what Cuban rum is like. (for reference, my favorite rums are usually Jamaican pot still, such as Plantation Xaymaca) Thanks for the informative comparison.

Trust me... the 11yo is the daddy. they need to bin off the 8yo and the 12yo. Just do a 3yo and 11yo!

Not officially. But I suspect quite low, 6-8g maybe. I’d be really surprised if it was more.

Nope, not really... Second biggest selling Rum brand in the world. You simply can't dismiss 5-6 of the Rums in their range just becasue you don't like, for example the Carta Blanca...

I am really surprised you like this , knowing you hate sherry casking. All I can smell/taste is sherry in this very sweet sherry - not me at all. Wish I bought a sample instead.

How bizarre. Absolutely no Sherry for me. Pretty sure it’s not even blended with any Sherry cask either. Just a great all round Cuban Rum. Honey, Coconut, Dried Fruit, Vanilla. Great Rum.

Steve, there's literally no rules for rum. It's not regulated like whisky/whiskey. It may say 11 year old but that could be a small percentage is 11 year old but the rest isn't. See common man cocktails for a better explanation.

There are Rules, but specific to GIs for certain Countries. For example, Martinique and Jamaica have some really tight rules and regulations! However, not all Countries have a GI.
