I did some blind tasting of rums while touring Cuba for a month a few years ago and Santiago de Cuba was my favourite, way nicer than Havana. Wasn't a huge fan of the town of Santiago de Cuba though and preferred Havana hands down. Great video

I was born and raised in Santiago ( living in USA now for some 30 years ) and a big fan of Cuban Rums. Agree with the Cubay it is a fantastic rum, Santiago 8 years is very special as well. However the best all around is the Santiago 11 years Extra añejo, seats in between the 8 and 12 years. The 11 years is simply out of this world in taste, balance etc, it is 40% but feels like vanilla. Havana Club is the most popular Cuban Rum but they know Santiago de Cuba is the cradle of Light Rum in Cuba with some 160 plus years crafting and perfecting that rum that seats in 75 years old wooden barrels. Ron Santiago goes from the lightest rum for cocktails to the Almighty $5000.00 dollars Ron Santiago 500. They have it all, the mountains, the sugar cane, the hot weather, the soil, the Caribbean and a long history. Long live Ron Santiago specially the 11 years old.
Just got this today, first time having rum neat, was nice but looking forward to trying more, I prefer sweeter, fruity drinks, any other rums to try that are higher up the scale? Thanks for any feedback 😊
Remember when it was the "Barrel Proof" drank it when I "lived in Havana" as it was affordable compared with the 15 year! Always have a bottle at home but keep for special pours!
My local TESCO had this on clearance today for..... wait for it!..............£9.84! Go get it!, unless you live near me, in which case - it's terrible so leave well alone!
Clearance?!!! For under a Tenner??! 🧐 They’ve only just listed it…they certainly don’t wanna be doing a clearance on it. Espesh at that price, it’s pretty much illegal to sell it less than cost!
@@StevetheBarmanUK I tried two more branches, one had it at full price while the second one had it "on clearance" at £16. I did manage to pick up some Tanquery 10 with a price reduction of over £10! I spoke with a staff member for the drinks section and she told me it was up to each branch to decide what to clear in order to make shelf space.
Hahaha... Funny story... i was in Tesco on Tuesday. The Diageo guy was there taking photos of all his spirits... guess he was like a supermarket rep. (decent age... like mid /late 30s). He was there with the head of Wines of Spirits for the Store. Anyway, i said hello, introduced myself and asked if Diageo had any plans to list the Santiago 11yo with Tesco.... I shit you not... "Didn't know there was an 11yo!" Firstly... do Diageo not train their employees. Secondly... As a Rep, surely you take an interest in your own products!
