Because he fucked up his voice hardcore through smoking and especially not taking care of it by warmups etc and finally through smoking he had no energy to move or do anything. Still love his voice though.
what your refering to is a "pitch shifter" or a famous tuneing device called a tc-hellicon...you have to at least be in the range of the note for it to work...and most of the time its very very light tuneing jsut to improve tone...pitch and overall feeling of the song not to kill the mood.. good thing to use... from listeing to this he hit those notes himself, becsaue of the preparation he took for it.
if you know anything about studios, every single record uses auto tune. even if the recording sounds great. no one can hit a pitch EXACTLY on the cent, every note, no matter how good. Just because you use auto tune doesn't mean you suck. Singing live in a band like this is hard. if you listen to some of their acoustic stuff, they sound amazing. With all the energy of a live show, and trying to have good stage presence, it's hard to sing phenomenal. give the guys a break.
Autotune, autotune, autotune. seriously stop. It's not autotuned. Stop saying its clearly evident when it's not at all. Singers like akon and t-pain, listen to theyre songs, THAT'S autotune. Saosin are just playing they're songs live. Justin, chris, beau and cove all go off key at times but they get it back on track. You're clearly not fans if you're fuelling this autotune fire. I've seen saosin live and they were great, you guys should know they dont need autotune at all.
Right, I am currently studying a national diploma in Music Techonology and Sound recording at city and islington college in London. Are you? No, so quiet down. I know how autotuning works. To be able to autotune they'd have to be running some kind of program and manually transpose a note cove sings wrong to the right one. Which while peforming live, would take seconds to adjust, which they don't have time to do if he's singing live. Cove does go off key and hits wrong notes here.
The autotuning throughout the entire song / DVD is pretty evident to me, but it just pulls badly there. I mean.. whatever. "Live" DVDS are a fucking joke these days. I expect vocals to be re-recorded, not just autotuned (they might've done some studio recording- I haven't listened closely enough).
Not always. If you turn the retuning speed up all the way it will jump pitch quickly and sound like T-Pain. If you have it down low it can be almost undetectable, especially if you have a more recent edition of autotune with a humanizing preset.
YOu guys dont Understand.....When They are warmed up they sound this good live without any pitch alighnment I went to a concert better than this one and the scream ant the end was way better so it has nothing to do with Pitch Alighnment
k. you guys realize that this performance is crazy autotuned. i still like the band alot. but i'm just saying, if you look at the other performances, he really struggles to hit those notes on pitch. still love saosin, but this guy isn't bruce dickinson
You do realise it's not autotuned at all? You can't autotune live, Besides like a harmonizer. He goes off key in places, which completely disregards your statement.
it sucks that they have to use autotune on his voice to make him sound good just listen to the end of the song when he sings "ill never tell" he sounds like a robot
autotune only covers up minor fluctuations in intonation. the initial performance still has to be good. so yeah, autotune IS used here but cove still certainly delivers
I wish Saosin would come to England so I can see them live!! If you like this song check out my piano version of it on my profile! I'm sure you'll like it :)
nestooooor is right. cove is getting better. hard to find good bands that are live these days thx to technology . if u dont like saosin stop watching these videos.
freakin awesome its like UO's survive kaleidoscope.. but thats better.. but this is freakin awesome.. epic.. go cove.. funny though theyre at tune.. ahaha
OK this is totally done with auto-tune. Cove used to have a really hard time singing this, there is no way he got this good with the song. You can tell how the notes change abruptly at some points.
@PeanutButterGtr I'm sorry, but I disagree with this entirely. I saw Cove years before 2009, and his volcal abilities couldn't hold a candle to Anthony's. As a matter of fact, I thought Cove was a huge drawback to the entire band.
I think that last note was a little TOO perfect.....I've heard him do it live on other recordings and it didn't sound nearly as good. I don't know if it's an audio edit for the DVD or if he's just gotten that much better. Could somebody who would know better than I would give me their opinion? I'm curious.
Cove was a phenomenal vocalist. He had incredible talent. The reason why he was asked to leave Saosin is because he let his abilities deteriorate. His power, range, clarity, and consistency all slowly withered away because he didn't take the time to rest his vocal chords, warm up, or train when he needed to. Smoking cigarettes before each show didn't help much either. Singing as well as he did is hard, but totally possible if you keep at it.
me too but he did pretty damn good seven years was amazing by cove especially hit every note. kinda messed up in voices but id say a A level performance on his behalf for my show understand both isolated incidents. but theres tons of videos where hes good too? filmed by ppl who didnt auto tune for sure. so ya
@x2xtreme360 I agree. Cove cannot stay on one key for the entirety of a song. Heck, even in this video which is autotuned, I can still hear parts where Cove messes up.
@x2xtreme360 Well that's a personal preference. You just so happen to like Anthony's voice better. However, the majority of Saosin fans feel otherwise.
yea. i wasnt saying he badly fucked up the deliverance of the note. it did seem like he didnt do it too steady, but i was just saying it's amazing he hit it one way or another. i appreciate the input! where'd you hear that part about him smoking from?
