Thank you for including older cards in the charts like my GTX1070. Many reviews only show current gen cards in their charts and I have no idea how the new card relates to what I already have.
@Florian Oprescu What I get for buying a pre-build lol. Once I got back into building... my father in law asked me to build them a new PC. 2700x for $158 usd, 1650s... Overall including a monitor (switching from mac)the price was 1/3rd less than mine and it kicks my performance by 30% in 9/10 titles.
The price cut in MSRP reflect on all countries, even third ones, the real problem in third world countries is the excessive tax the retailers and final consumers pay to pick these hardwares But your point in part is very fair, boost in perfomance is a good thing too
@@gontary101 I watched Jayz first, it was the shortest lol. Yet, I watched theirs next, now here, and will watch Hardware Canucks later. Of curse all are the same roughly, though interesting how Jayz2Cents stated that the fan of his card wasn't working with the new bio and the AMD software, but had to use MSI Afterburner to get the fans to work properly....I still just trust NVIDIA and EVGA more currently when it comes to drivers and stuff.
@@dorientjewoller113 i dont have any problems with my sapphire rx 580 8gb pulse besides drivers issues after new 2020 drivers update it fix all the issues in my card
they tested 2 bios for the alleged other bios's they used the silent profile setting on each bios which slows the fans (to make it more silent) and decreases clock speeds to stop the card from thermal throttling
The ASRock 5700 is 20€ CHEAPER than the 5600 XT Pulse, here in Sweden. I believe local vendors haven't followed AMD's lowering of MSRPs since the mid-July 5700 launch...
BTW OC the 5700 has been a very frustrating task, is very hard to know if I'm getting better performance with higher clocks. Time spy scores is all over the place for me 😔
GN - please do a technical breakdown of all settings in Nvidia control panel and how they affect game graphics/performance compared to using defaults and only changing in-game settings.
it makes me very sad that amd has nice hardware but instead they waste the programmers efforts into completely redesigning the wattman interface instead of fixing bugs... not to mention that they completely redesigned amd wattman but theres still no simple way to set your fan speed to a fixed speed, like in afterburner.
@@1idd0kun either way, someone in QC is either sleeping or told to ignore these issues time after time. I own both AMD and Nvidia cards,so I have no bias either.
@@DefWun I think it's just the fact that Navi is a new architecture. When Zen 2 came out, the bios was a shit show too, and it only started getting decent recently.
@@1idd0kun AMD has had problems with their GPU software for years. It's well documented and is still happening time after time with new cards being launched. How long would they like their consumers to wait?
Yep. In that video Steve did about the AMD drivers at CES, he mentioned that AMD likes to say that Nvidia's Control Panel looks like it's from the 90s. I say, who cares? Nvidia's Control Center works. I'd rather have a working center that looks dated than a fancy looking center that doesn't work. Get your shit together, AMD! Function before form!
Say it how it is Steve! Awesome review! That freesync stutter drove me nuts, finally got it fixed i think. Didn't really have the driver issues that some were having with my 5700XT, I do feel bad for those who did though.
@Alistair Poor value? You're clueless. The 2070 Super offers better drivers, more performance, Raytracing, DLSS, Ansel, CUDA, CUDNN, NVENC, better OpenGL and VR performance, and tons of Nvidia only features. What does the 5700XT offer? A bit lower price.
Depends, really. I don't mind a bit of troubleshooting if it means a more reliable card. Or, not supporting toxic business practices. I haven't had any noteworthy driver problems since like 2013 with my 7970, but when I was upgrading, I wasn't exactly all that interested in buying NVidia right when they were pushing GPP.
"when he changed the windows volume and the volume notification popped up the fps dropped to 30 and went back up when the notification was gone" 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ How the heck amd still has all these driver issues with multimonitor setups etc.
I run a 590 and I have major problems booting with two screens turned on. When the screens are off, no problem with booting to Windows. So.......I'll have myself a next gen nVidia GPU when it launches. (I'm able to allocate a bigger budget for that purchase)
I have this problem with every single windows overlay on my v56. Varies from application to application. Some games its not much of an effect, some games its massive. Not great when I don't have activated windows though, end up having to restart my pc every 4 hours or so to get rid of the watermark.
My Vega64 doesn't play nice unless I plug 1 monitor into HDMI and the other display port. Happened after an update. I get intermittent black screens otherwise. Going back to NVidia next card.
This is inconsistent, which is the worst, on 470 I'm great with multimonior, however, for a month or two I had weird issue, every time there was gpu driver update my screens went black and I had to reboot, then install those drivers and then everything was fine. Yeah, rx470, I'm waiting for next gen gpu's to see if RT/RTX becomes relevant or not.
I got a red devil Vega 56 for 225$. As far as I can tell,it is best AMD GPU for the 200 ish price right now. Obviously you might have to go used, but still VERY worth it vs 590 or (NEW) 5500XT (8GB)
love how GN has gone out of their way to provide us with benchmarks for every possible bios possibility. would have been very easy to just say "update your vbios before comparing results to this video" but this is not the GN way. You guys the real MVPs.
I have the XFX 5600 XT, post bios, 14gbps pro series card. It's the best card I've ever had. There's not much overclocking you can do with it, but you can max it out and it runs 3DMark just fine.
FPS drop / stuttering when adjusting volume in win 10 is also happening to me in CS:GO. Microsoft just ignores my full-screen and its trying to force volume bar to show through game. Just want to point out that its happening even with my GTX 1080.
Yep. Disabling fullscreen optimizations on the executable used to work but not anymore. In some games, the volume bar doesn't appear but in other it appears.
So the takeaway is AMD Video Cards are no good since the drivers are sht? Why not just pick one of the Invidia Super cards instead for peace of mind? =D
I guess it freaked them out as much as my gf's work colleague was when she was told it was perfectly possible to melt cheese into baked beans (with a dash of black pepper), she actually said, "You can do that??".
I've been doing some benching recently, just added a 1080 Ti config for an upper reference - so nice to see such smooth fps even at 1440p. Infact it was so damn fast it kept hitting the game engine's internal frame rate cap (approx. 188fps); when that happens the game stutters badly. Solution was to set a frame rate limit using Riva Tuner (very easy), so I chose 175, smooooth awesomeness. See: www.sgidepot.co.uk/misc/gtav.txt The fps cap is why 1080p/Low is actually slightly slower than 1440p/Low for the 1080 Ti config. More results with weird XEONs and other stuff here: www.sgidepot.co.uk/sgi.html#PC
AMD's graphics division really needs to pull it's head out of its butt. What a farce lol. How do they not know Nvidia is going to lower it's prices? Please will someone save us from these graphics card companies?
I just got my PowerColor RedDragon 5600XT and discovered that the BIOS was already up-to-date. I bought it off Amazon. I've got my Ryzen 2600 running at 3.85 GHz all core and actually just edged out an 3600 at stock timings on the firestrike 3dMark.
He literally explains what's wrong with them in every review of a new AMD card, but sure. Ignore that and ask what's wrong with them, fanboy. That'll make the problems go away. 🙄
I guess an artificially restricted card that they can unlock a bit more is still a better option than a card be DOA cos it's at the end of its wick by design.
@@faultyservice ok, but following that kind of logic, everyone should stop doing everything, because someone else does a better job that's just around the corner. If for nothing else AMD forced Nvidia's hand, maybe not buy much, but still. On the lower end of the spectrum, Nvidia has too many cards almost $50 apart. If AMD wedges something in there, adjusting prices would need to cascade down, otherwise cards would step on eachother. That is at least good for the consumer.
Uriah Siner yeap same, I bought a 5700 xt early December and experienced more crashes in 2 weeks than I had with my 970 in 4 years. Thank god for Amazon and their return policy. Happy with my 2070 Super now.
I've been trying to replace my RX 590 and I was considering getting the 5600 XT. Seeing as the Bios update helps it tremendously and you can even push out more performance using MPT without destroying the card or putting it on water I think I've found it'd be a good option since I want to stay under 300 dollars.
Yeah, basic stuff here. Should also run it in safe mode and also clean install the GPU via drivers as an extra layer. Sometimes running DDU a few times helps, can check registry.
the thing i hate about using DDU is remembering how to get win10 into safemode again.. settings>update and security>recovery>advanced startup>restart now etc etc... it should not be that complicated... my pet peeve... lol
Honestly, I would wait until AMD fix NAVI's driver before using RX5600XT on my clients computer, price performance is about the same with RTX 2060, yet driver performance aren't. Well, finewine will probably strike again, but not until I am forced to spend time fixing driver issue one by one. Probably best option is to wait a while.
@@TheGuruStud He hasn't specified what the issues were but he wouldn't be the only person to have had trouble with AMD drivers. I am saying no matter what AMD GPU he has it won't fix drivers that are causing him issues he doesn't like. Not all software will behave the same on all working hardware configurations.
Probably is maintaining compatibility for consoles, and also money which is why they can't have 2 architectures running side by side. If they had money we'd probably see a ground up architecture like Zen, but because they can't build one from scratch and have to use the current modified architecture for consoles in order to ensure backwards compatibility we have Navi doing both jobs.
@@scarletspidernz yeah. Rdna is basically an extended GCN so native GCN code can still run (even though it doesnt touch the extensions). This is pretty much in line with how Nintendo used the same hardware in the original Gameboy and in the Gameboy Color -- with just double memory banks and extended everything
Glad I'm not the only one with stutter/black screen, especially for StarWarsBattlefront2 (thought it was a Dice problem). Running 144hz monitor w/ 5700 XT. Notice problems only come up with FreeSync as well. Amd's latest drivers seemed to stop the crashes and PC restarts. Still occasional black screen unless I turn FreeSync OFF then ON for monitor thru OSD.
Uh, Steve, did you hear from Hardware Unboxed how to fix the messy drivers? Since you have a test bench, you have to use many different graphics cards, from Nvidia to AMD. Apparently, if you delete the previous drivers that are still on the boot drive, then it will work fine.
@@mjc0961 I know that these guys are pretty smart, but I also know that there are people who have never had problems with Radeon rx products, and they deleted the previous drivers. Though, what made you think that I was talking down to them?
6 months past NVIDIAs price cut is usless, 2060 founders edition is priced up to $400 custom 2060s are ranging from 350-400+. While 5600xt pulse is chiling in the 299
The buggy throttling/stuttering under lower loads has been a problem for months on Navi and AMD can't get a handle on it. I can only agree with James, avoid if you just want to play hassle free.
I've been using the 5700XT since launch and the only issue I've had that's been consistent has been the FreeSync issue, such as the disconnecting issue.. Had some strange slow down in Fallen Order but I was trying out anti-lag with that to see if it would do anything. It didn't but turning off anti-lag fixed it. Not many multi monitor issues.
Drivers are stable i have nitro 580 and red devil 5700xt and nitro 5700xt and zero issue on this cards, many people blame amd drivers not work thats not exacly the true!!
@@intech7863 They might work great for you but a lot of people are having issues. Buying from Amazon becomes almost mandatory in this case, just to be able to return it if you're unlucky.
@@zarco5855 The only people that say anything are the people that have problems, hence 'a lot' of people are having problems... @_@ I have been having zero problems with drivers or Wattman...
Same here 5700xt with zero issues... it seems that some dual monitor setup Are having problems at this moment, but I only run one monitor so I can not check that out.
"Some cards will never get updates, from what we’ve been told, as their designs too closely ride the limit of the lower power budget. " - those cards should be called 5600 non-XTs or something. AMD should not be pulling the "same exact part name with very different performance" bullshit.
I wanna see a powermod that melts the 8-pin, turn the dial to 11! I feel like this is going to cannibalize RX 5700 sales. RX 5600 XT Red Devil is priced the same as budget RX 5700s. They're all good cards, but it reeks of artificial segmentation. How far can this be overclocked before the memory bandwidth causes issues? It's out of spec, but a single 8-pin should be able to handle ~250 W as each pin is rated for 7 amps.
@@PIVAZ91 I take it you've used DDU to completely remove any pervious video drivers etc? Also, I found it best to pre download the latest driver, run DDU in safe mode (or it doesn't work properly), disconnect Internet until after you've installed the new driver (or it tries to install via windows update).
I agree with you 100% GN. I bought a 5700 XT because I couldn’t afford a a RTX 2070 Super without taking money away from my kid. And boy do I regret it with all the Bios issues. I honestly would rather have a RTX 2060 Super instead. It would have lower Frame rate but at least it would work every time flawlessly
Thank you Steve for investigating the radeon drivers. There's more problems then those you list and I would love to see a video that really details this and forces AMD's hand a bit. Did you know that the vega cards cant play HDR netflix? I wanted to use my radeon vii to double as an htpc but cant send a 4k hdr blueray to a television. Playready 3.0 was talked about in 2018 for the vega cards. Blackscreens caused from desktop programs that use gpu acceleration (I refuse to believe a fix for that is to disable the feature you buy a gpu for) Run a 20 minute benchmark no problem, quit that and open firefox and blackscreen, reboot, reset wattman settings. Inconsistant random screen flickers while on a static webpage or the desktop, sometimes twice a day, sometimes every 20 seconds. I'd be perfectly happy with my card if it could just be stable.
thx for putting pressure on AMD...i personally have enough of their drivers. have been with AMD GPUs long enough, time for others to take the hit. and yes, i "dare" to have multiple monitors. i know, its all my fault...
Nice Reviewe Steve! Thank you! However, I noticed that some of the Data in your Benchmark Sheets is extremely outdated and yes, I know it's a massive hassle, but I would love it when you update it. One Example I can produce myself. In SOTTR in 1080p, High Settings, no AA my Radeon VII (yes it runs at 2050MHz effektive GPU-Clocks with 1265MHz on the HBM @1,16V @~280W (Standard Driver Settings) with a 9900k at 5 Ghz and DDR4-4133 CL17 but still) and the Performance is far beyond even Night and Day compared to what is shown here, it's in another world. Especially the insanely low 0.1% are a thing of the past and do not appear anymore, even on Stock-Settings. My VII scored 141 Min. FPS, 179 Average and 295 Max in the GPU Benchmark with the Settings mentioned with my System and OC-Settings. The VII is EoL, yes, but it is still going strong and in comparison to the RX5700XT has real Overclocking Potential for upto 25% Performance Gains over Stock (like in my Case), making the VII very competitive still to the RTX2080 Super and is still a great Option for AMD Fans that want to have a bit more Performance.
@@carbonsx3 That's a bit sad, cause its not only the AMD GPUs, I suspect that most of the older ones are victim to this too. I really like Steve's work but this paints an inaccurate picture. Sure, he could just throw those stats out but...I would love to see an update version. We all know how much stupid work that is and how much effort it would take for probably little benefit..but welp, It would be nice is all I am saying.
@@JoePWI Yeah it is a huge amount of work and at some point you just have to throw in the towel I some products, I guess... but it does make the comparisons difficult. I have a Vega 64 myself and I don't have any of the driver problems GN complains about either...
If you buy hardware and the first thing you do ISN'T check for drivers/bios updates, you don't have a right to complain. An end user that's just going to pop this in and boot up isn't the end user that's going to be running multiple benchmarks to see what their TDP is.
Go to the store now the cheapest RTX 2060 is 330$ witch is much more than 280$ and the gtx 1660Ti is slower for the same price temporary price cuts aren't worth the mention
i got my sapphire 5600 xt for like a month now...All i can say is that card is a little beast...and i was always an Nvidia fan boy...but since i got 5600 xt in a very sweet price and saw that my perfomance from my previous 1060 6 gb when sky high...is was sooooo worthing it ;)... Btw i didnt had any issues like dark screen or whatever :)
Had 3 generations of AMD videocards the drivers always been shit, never again. I know, I know finewine, but not waiting for 3 or more months before they get the drivers right. I do like AMD cpus, I have a Ryzen 3700x and a msi rx2080 they work good together.
ElZamo92 in cpu They have 7nm vs 14+++++ manufacturing node. In cpu They have chiplets vs monolith cpus. Those Are huge production and price adwantages! In gpu... They don`t have those. Only the 7nm, but 12nm is cheaper to produce, so the situation is very different!
What I'm taking away from the noise and thermal testing is that the card was overbuilt for the original spec, so it benefits from the spec bump. Cards built to a more strict price point will probably suffer more.
Remember the 2060 is ~equivalent to the 1070, without RT considered . A super salty NVDA fan like myself (:P), might be compelled to say, "OK, AMD, we get it: you can build a 1070 / 1080 in 2020". (Ala the same ragging nvda gets for 1080TI) I'm just pulling your chain though, as usual great review. Not alot of fluff, straight to point.
You have the perfect idea for a follow up video, The Arms Race. How close can you get a 5600 XT to a 5700 non XT and then how close can you get a 5700 non XT to a 5700 XT.
