Sarajevo: The Journey From War Zone To Tranquility - A Story Of Resilience
The more time Snow and Curt spend in the beautiful country of Bosnia, the more they understand the true resilience of the Bosnian People. Sarajevo is a thriving international city that celebrates acceptance of all people... but, in the 1990's it was a war zone... torn apart by nearly 4 years of hate fueled war. The fact that this city is here at all is amazing, but to walk the streets and feel the strength of the people that live here is simply unimaginable. This van life couple dives deep into a city that defines strength and peace, despite its tragic past. If you are traveling to this part of Europe, whether in a camper van or by traditional means... Sarajevo deserves to be on your travel list.

What a devastating time. We ‘westerners’ have NO IDEA what living through a war is like. Thank you for all you do to educate us throughout your travels. I appreciate you, as does my 99 year old Mom. She was 15 in Brussels when Hitler took over that city. The horrors she witnessed and survived….💔 your videos are the highlight of her week. Thank you so much.

Please don't ever apologize for not recording something. Sometimes it is more important for you to experience the event fully and not worry about what is going on with the camera. It enables you to be a part of the event. I do love your retelling of your trip to the theater. I probably got a better feel for what you felt than if you recorded it.

It was so oppressive in 2001 when I was in the city. People would stop me and thank the US for ending the war with tears in their eyes. The teens were still in shock. No emotions or joy.

It was someone from 350.000 expelled Serbs who live there 1300 years of written history (+killed). Saw anyone? Talk with one? Nope. No more. They survived even 500 years of Ottoman empire like a Christian slaves. But not '90's of XX century.

One thing that always stood out to me whilst I traveled in Europe was how many times the people of the world managed to rise up and rebuild after wars devastate an area. What we don't see is how many times the innocent are left to carry on. Time after time you have shown us, no matter where you go, the people are the true heart of the land. If left alone, we could work out our problems. We had the right idea in the 60's , we just didn't understand the true size of the monster we thought we were fighting. Thank you for always bringing our humanity to the forefront . The same humanity we are all told doesn't exist. Plus, that coffee looks delish❤.

It helps when the US alone has given 2 billion in foreign aid since 92’. It is great that other nations are generous in recent centuries to help rebuild the infrastructure. But, you are so right, It hides the unspeakable trauma left behind. The families are still suffering even generations later.

I had the best coffee of my life in Old Town Sarajevo ...went through right before the war started, the inflation rate was off the scale, prices were changing daily in the windows of the shops, it was unbelievable ..left Nov. 1990, continued on our journey to Greece, flew home on Jan. 4th 1991, the same day the artillery started flying, we heard on the news what was happening, many of us in the airport were crying. Very nice people in old Yugoslavia!

Wow! What an incredible place! I am ashamed to admit that when the war was happening I never gave it much thought. I listened to the nightly news reports but it never really sunk in what a horrific event was taking place. Thank you for shining a light on this beautiful part of the world.

I was a teenager during this war and I have a scene printed in my mind that I will remember forever. It was a picture of a mom holding a baby and they had passed cuddling each other. I could not phantom the amount of hate the there is in this world that that would be the result of any human. I am much older now and realized there is much more of said hate then I knew. I also have come to realize that love can create beautiful things as well.

I was living in Vienna just before the war in my twenties. What surprised me the most driving down in to Yugoslavia at the time was the diversity compared to Austria. It was crossing the Iron Curtain but the amount of radio stations playing a diverse Genre of Music. Young people wearing funky clothing. Modern Art galleries. The diverse range of food on offer. Austria the Pinnacle of the so could west seemed rather conservative at the time.

Yugoslavia wasn't behind the Iron Curtain because it wasn't allied to the Soviets or the Warsaw Pact. Yugoslavia was part of the Unaligned movement and they had good relations with the West.

I was in Sarajevo before the war - it was a horrible experience. Nothing was open. People were shouting at me from behind boarded up windows. I didn't know what was happening. I thought I'd see wonderful things. I really wanted to visit the Olympic village and all the Olympic buildings and structures had been ravaged. All the seating had been ripped out of the stadium and everything looted and smashed up. One of the scariest days of my life. Later when war broke out I was not surprised. Its good to know that it recovered and has become so alive now.

You said Tim was there during war for humanitarian purposes I think about orphans wasn't it? So did you get to meet any of those children he helped? I looked on utube for him & found old videos that must have been after his humanitarian service since they were about enjoying coffee & such. It is a shame he did not know horrible use of inn since he was there before fighting ended he might have been able to help those held at that inn. It is nice he had money or inheritance or got international job so he could stay in Bosnia & afford to build nice home there. I wish I could do such. Have only followed you since you went to Europe but saw your map. Why did you not go to Brazil?
