In September 2014, the NDA government had set up a committee looking on the development and restructuring of Indian Railways headed by eminent economist and member of NITI Aayog, Bibek Debroy. In its report submitted before the Union government, the committee has suggested that Railways should work on their commercial accounting and must rethink on their HR policies. Beside, the committee has also made a suggestion of making railways as an independent regulator.
Now the question is how the government will work on the recommendations of the committee for the restructuring of the railways. The sector is facing a continuous financial crunch and it requires great amount of funds to improve its condition.
