Johann van Loggerenberg entered the public consciousness during the Gupta era of State Capture when fighting the defanging of an investigative unit he headed at SA Revenue Services. SARS’s best-known whistleblower chronicled his story in the co-authored 2016 bestseller “Rogue: The Inside Story of SARS’s Elite Crime Busting Unit”. In this interview, Van Loggerenberg discusses parallels with former Eskom CEO turned whistleblower Andre de Ruyter’s blockbuster new book; his experience of working for De Ruyter’s ex-boss DPE Minister Pravin Gordhan - and reflects on being jumped and beaten over the weekend by “four angry people.”

I think Johann Van Loggerenberg should have read the book before he gave an interview about the book. What a pity! Johann has cast doubt on a book that does indeed contain many facts, even if some of the information isn't 100% factually checked. My advice is that he reads the book and only then delivers a contribution.= about the book.
@hansielategan969

His comments were more on the Fivaz report, which he has studied in detail. De Ruyter's book is based on the "findings" of the Fivaz report. I listened to another, much longer, interview with Johan. He actually attended a session with Fizaz and company where they presented their findings and he has a meeting with De Ruyter. So I think he has more than enough info to make a judgement call. His reaction was that most of it is hearsay and not a single claim was properly investigated. He further argued that the info in the report may not be incorrect - although there are parts which he just slams as rubbish claims - but said that his recommendation to De Ruyter was that these claims need to be investigated properly before he went public with it. Something De Ruyter ignored and went public with unsubstantiated uninvestigated rumours, rather than facts.

No, you are completely wrong. When you Live with these types of people for a long time you learn how their minds work. Life has no value and the items they take is more to dispossess you than anything else. Then, they themselves attach no value to their own lives. Besides crime pays for them. Five minutes work can net them way more than working every day nine to five jobs. Then, because there is no law and order in RSA it opens the door wide for criminals to do exactly as they please knowing there is no consequences for their actions. And as the country unravels completely it will get much worse. You have to fight fire with fire. Consider this... 5 minutes work netted them R4000. 60 minutes = R48,000 X 8 hours per work day = R384,000. Let's say they hit 4 people per day at R4000 that's R16,000 X 30 days = R480, 000 per month. Pretty good return on investment. Better than any job and any investment. Better return than Warren Buffett by far. And this is petty hijacking. What about the real stuff which is all due to the ANC

😐 I often hear South Africans saying “At least I am alive” and it pains me because the impact and neuronal damage of trauma is significant. Strong evidence demonstrating that chronic cortisol levels in the brain is toxic and damages and kill neurons. Keep in mind that we can’t regrow braincells (apart from the hippocampus). Rationalise it as you will, living in a dangerous and violent country causes severe neurological damage on a daily basis. Please, if you have young children, consider investing in their brain health and future, offshore. Just because you can’t see the damage in the brain doesn’t mean it’s not there. This heightened sense of threat avoidance requires higher levels of subconscious brain activity and increases the need for a neurotransmitter that also become toxic in too high levels. High activity in the brain also means more waste because of oxidation - like running a diesel generator inside your house 24/7 - and may increase the risk of brain diseases such as dementia for adults like you. ⚡️If you lose your mind, you lose everything.⚡️

Well spoken Johan. As far as the content of the book, all is not lost. Because what has a happened is documented history. de Ruyter being an attorney surely knows his way (and so the advisors) around. Rubbishing the investigator firm for what is in the eye of the public can only be warrented if that is the only hand that there is to show? If the matter goes the course to court, then everything will be under oath.

I am so tired of people feeling bad for their privilege! Privilege is earned period, everyone that has privilege, either them or their fore farthers or ancestors hade to sacrifice, do things they did not want to do, suffer extensively daily to earn the said privilege

Van Loggerenberg's comments about Pravin... is it possible that he has this management style so that he is strongly positioned within the ANC ? I think it is.
@Gen_X
@Gen_X Год назад
Is he strongly positioned? He is not well liked by the ANC .. I think he did not even make the top half of the NEC voting in December. I often ask why is he still in politics.. Surely he doesn't need the money and consider his age. .. Shouldn't he spend his golden years with his family? In the past 2 years at least his legacy is being tarnished, he is vilified by the EFF, a significant majority of South Africans blame him for Eskoms woes.. So why remain in politics? Is it not possible that he stays cos he is a trusted ally of Cyril and Cyril cannot afford to lose him? Pravin should place his family before politics and should have resigned at least 2 years ago and thereby protected his legacy.

South African society is the pits. there is a line that creatures dont cross in treating each other but south africans cross that line all the time, demening and dehumanising one another constantly leads to extreme violence. I work but I live and sleep like a dog, not by choise but by will of others. simply because of my melonin. something I cant change.

Lol, I haven't had a medical aid since 1990, I guess I should be angry at my lot and i should go rob and beat someone up? Ps I am healthier for the lack of a medical aid than any of my peers. Only time we need a doctor is when an incident like this occurs.

Kaballah here without doubt. Hmmm, when the veil is lifted some day, we’ll be shocked at how many traitors SA actually has. All for greed. De Ruyter did the right thing. Experience in businesses last decades share the same corrupt pattern as they’ve done to DeR.

'I became acutely aware of my privilege' and 'I consider the attackers as victims'. I think Johann is suffering from some sort of Stockholm syndrome. Or some extreme form of progressivism where even being killed by perceived disadvantaged groups seems justifiable. I have sympathy for Johann's ordeal, but unfortunately attitudes like this are not met with reciprocity in Africa - it is exploited. Africa understands only projections of brute strength as deterrents to violence, unfortunately.

His body language demonstrates that he is still protecting himself. His affect is very flat. He isn’t really interested in the book because it might be deemed as a de Ruyter apologist. If people envisage he is it may put him in danger. Nothing is forthcoming so don’t waste time waiting for the sky to fall.

Pointless interview if the interviewed did not read the book. Why then mention the book at all. If the topic was PG's character then why even mention the book? Click baiting in my opinion. And shame, the poor assailants, feel sorry for them. They have been harmed hence the harm they inflict on their victims is justified. Poor souls 🤬🤬🤬
