All thoughts and opinions are my own. I have not had any contact with SAS, all of my information comes from their published articles on their website. All of this information is subject to change though.

When there is a vaccine, there may be SAS again. Maybe Spring 2021. More likely Fall 2021. It is for the best, I hope everyone gets their money back. Many universities may still stay online for Fall 2020 I know you may think it sucks. It does, but it's a way to keep more people healthy and not over burden the hospital staff around the world. I've had 2 coworkers, and 4 acquaintances dead from this disease. Multiple family members sick, one still on oxygen. Be safe. Help keep your family and friends safe.

Thank you for your response! It really has been terrible all around the world and you are probably right that we won't be getting back to complete normalcy anytime soon. SAS reported that they received funding from the relief act, so even though they lost a great deal of money, they will sail again.

I was supposed to go on the Fall voyage, and when I heard it was canceled, I was extremely disappointed. I asked you which cabin to apply for because of my claustrophobia, and you were kind enough to answer! I just wanted to thank you for helping me, even though it was canceled.

I'm so sorry it was canceled, but they will sail again. And no problem, it's always fun answering all the questions I get! Hopefully you are able to find your way on a future voyage!

As someone who was supposed to be on the Fall voyage, I can tell you that everyone was very disappointed. For some people, this was their only chance to be able to do SAS. When we heard the news, we were sent to a link that allowed us to transfer our deposits to a future voyage. I was previously supposed to be on the Spring 2021, but after hearing of the new price decrease I changed to Fall 2020. Now I’m having to change back to Spring 2021 or even possibly Spring 2022 because of the study abroad restrictions at my university. I was extremely disappointed to hear that the voyage was cancelled, but I think SAS ultimately did the right thing.

I'm so sorry and I wish you the best of luck to be able to sail in the future! It's unfortunate, but it's probable for the best to cancel now instead of in the middle of the voyage while risking everyone's safety.

I think Semester At Sea did the right thing. Better to cancel now than all the ports later. Would students feel safe going into port? Traveling the world?

Ultimately they made the right decision. I'm happy they made it now instead of having to make it in the middle of the semester.

This was some surprising news, especially after the last updates to the voyage. I want to know what you guys think though, so make sure to join the conversation below and let me know!

I've been binge watching a lot of SAS videos and I'm thinking is SAS really worth it? I love how this is a fun way to study abroad, but how do you guys not feel so home sick? How are you guys not worried about storms and hurricane season when attending the fall semester? How are you sure people from the spring 2020 voyage wasn't tested positive and could've been in the dorm rooms? Do you think it would be safe to travel soon? Do you think SAS might cancel the fall and spring 2021 voyage maybe due to the economic stress everyone worldwide is dealing with? I might be overthinking a lot but my teacher kind of brought that to my attention so I feel really stuck, and don't know if this program might be right for me to attend after viewing how scary this virus is and how some study abroad students are trapped in countries and are panicking. What do you think about everything?

I'll just say that Semester at Sea is probably one of the most life changing experience that one can take. It will give you memories, experiences, and lessons that you will hold with you for the rest of your life. On the voyage, of course people got homesick, but SAS does a lot of things to help you deal with it such as families and support groups. Storms are always a possibility, but the crew on board can see them pretty far out and they do whatever necessary to avoid them. Personally, I always loved when through storms at sea. On our voyage, it was a possibility that someone would bring the virus on board, but we just just trust each other and our medical to make sure it did not happen or stop the spread of it. Even before the outbreak, the ship is sanitized constantly and you constantly use the hand sanitizer stations around the ship. Traveling wise, I think by the end of the year it will be possible again. I am no expert though, but that's my guess. Personally, I don't believe there is any potential for them to cancel the fall or spring 2021 voyage.
