Ste i just wanted to say I have many family members who were/are in the army and ex special forces etc and a couple of years ago we lost a cousin to suicide who was a medic and served our country but he never got the help he needed for ptsd from the mod or nothing, he had to deal with what he saw all by himself and obviously it wasn’t enough, i have MASSIVE respect for you guys who have served or are serving currently and i hope you ALL get the proper help (if needed) and public respect you guys so well deserve..! Its not all rainbows and fluffy pillows in the army, its gruelling and takes sh!t outa you that lasts forever, there should be more support available for soldiers ✊🏻✌🏻💙🇬🇧

I think you did a fantastic job, especially with Plantar Fasciitis which must have been extremely painful. I've done it 3 times including 2 hot summer days & one winters night. I passed the time on all, with my best being 40 minutes under. But the other two I scraped in with around 10 minutes left. I volunteered to help the DS in 2022 & that was the entire weekend with no kip. As you're aware, it's those rocks that make it even harder. And mud, water obstacles plus the weather. I genuinely wish you all the best when you next do the High Walk. It's a huge achievement just to complete the course, so never feel bad if you don't hit your time. You only have to look at how many are doing this for real & not making it. ( You fail & you're RTU'ed.) It really is the first true test of your capabilities, both mentally & physically. And I'll tell you honestly, there's no way I could have done what you did with your bad foot. Superb sir.

Walked up on Pen Y Fan nearly 40 years ago. Beautiful spring day with clear blue sky. Within half hour of reaching the top a bank of cloud zoomed in and my visibility was down to about 20ft. Took me 7 hours of walking around before I could make out a path and got back to my motorcycle. Lucky I started early in the day and had a nice warm leather jacket on. Taught me some real respect for nature though !

That's some time pal - what's the strategy for it? Redline your head off the whole way? Coz I can't see me being able to do that. Or is it walk, run, shuffle, walk, run, shuffle etc. You going up to Corn Du quick? Or quicker than I did!
@markturner6755
@markturner6755 4 месяца назад
@@Howson-IRL your spot on mate, It’s pass or fail so you have to go flat out and run/shuffle whenever the ground(and your lungs) allow you to do so. Corn Du and then Jacob’s ladder on the way back are your obvious slow points so you’ve just got to give it all you’ve got. You need to remember to scoff plenty of instant carbs on your way around too and that will help keep your energy and therefore your speed up. I had done this route several times in training and you soon get to learn where you can make up time. Make sure you film your next attempt it will be a blast. Watch the heat though mate if you’re trying it in the summer, I would advise against that.

Steve last year I tried the carnivore diet and lost 3.5 stone after struggling with excess weight for years, my planter fasciitis and achilles tendinitis is gone now, perhaps a extreme suggestion for most but it really helped. Have you tired insoles? this helped me with reduce the plantar pain Can’t wait to try the Kiltwalks again 18-24 miles each with less of a load to carry and injury free my time was 7 hours 30 minutes so gonna aim for an hour faster, I can appreciate how much time is lost taping up feet and blisters 😬

Jungle next or arctic warfare????
@Howson-IRL

I've never been to the jungle. I can't say it's something I'd look forward to. Both horrendous for different reasons. I think I'd lean towards arctic for it being a bit cleaner. But chances of dying just out in the open in the jungle are a lot smaller... hard to call it!

The SAS & SBS are the pinnacle of special forces but I reckon the most famous of special forces are the Navy Seals because of all the books and films you cant watch an american action film without hearing about Navy Seals.

The time limit of c. 4 hours isn’t actually true. It used to be, when they had to navigate the route. But as it’s so well known now, they just have to keep up with the DS. Although the time is probably similar.. I did this with TSFE, which was founded and run by ex SAS. Billy Billingham was there when I did it. That’s how I know.

@@Howson-IRL btw, brilliant effort. Especially with the foot issue. My time was similar to yours. To me the time wasn’t important. It’s about having the mental strength to complete it.
