My dad was in the Canadian Military and he has told me stories about joint training exercises over in Europe. Nobody wanted to go up against the SAS, as they'd tie you up with barbed wire.

Pathfinder Platoon is pretty much a secretive unit even though its not under UK Special Forces, its an elite Reconnaissance unit which takes its roots from the Parachute Regiment. It's a common road to take for those wishing to serve in the SAS but its also a longer process.

Regarding the legal implications he had already been given the ok to do whatever he could to help by a British official in Kenya the guy who phoned him when they say he went rouge they just mean he wasn't given official orders by his commanding officer

Another documentary about this incident said he got permission to go in from the British commissioner to Kenya, there's no way a professional soldier in a foreign land wouldn't seek permission first unless his life was at risk, which it wasn't.

He wasn't worried about a bunch of untrained WOG's who had guns, he was worried about the innocent civilians. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was good at and could look at his opponents and determine if they were a real threat to him. In this case, they weren't. He was a highly trained professional and at best he was going up against gifted amateurs. It's like Serena Williams taking on a high school tennis team, there was no contest. This man is a beast and I would say that the SAS lost some talent when he retired, but the SAS is notorious for replacing talent with talent. Nothing but respect for those men.
