To draw the pattern, you'll need two circle templates.
The diameter of the smaller circle is a half length of the diameter of the larger circle.
I used 8cm and 4cm diameter circles. If you are measuring in inches, it can be, for example, 4in and 2in.
The measurements (the width and the length) of the whole grid should be a multiple of the diameter of the larger circle.
My larger circle was 8cm, so I made the size of the whole pattern 48cmx48cm.
If you are using a 4in circle, it can be 16inx16in or 16inx12in (or your preferred size).
The size of squares for the grid should be the same as the diameter of the smaller circle. My smaller circle was 4cm so I drew a grid of 4cm squares.
If your larger circle is 4in, the smaller circle will be 2in and the squares for the grid will be 2inx2in.
It will be easier to draw semicircles, if you draw a cross on the larger circle and a line through the centre on the smaller like mine and align them with the grid lines.
The way I stitched is just one of the examples. You can stitch the pattern differently to mine. The way I stitched in this video avoids acute curves as much as possible. Stitching acute curves takes more time and skill than stitching gentle curves.
After stitching Sashiko, I cut another piece of fabric into the same size and put the two pieces together with the right sides facing each other. Then, I sewed along the raw edges with 1cm seam allowance leaving a 10cm opening. After sewing, I flipped the piece inside out and did a top stitch all along the edges.
