I wish I never had children. I was ever meant to be a mother but I was pressured into it from so many sides I caved. Don’t get me wrong, my husband and I gave them a great life and plenty of love but for me it was motivated by guilt and duty and big mask. I have a greater appreciation for them as adults…. But if I could do it again…

Yeah, raising kids is tough. But at age 73 when I blew my knee out I had half a dozen people checking on me everyday and coming over to take care of the chores or just keep me company. I’ll never die alone and lonely. Get some cats, ladies.

These are hilarious! I've never even imagined wanting to be a father, I don't like children and I've never found a woman to be sexually attractive, so no kids for me! My Sister (Mother of two) and her Master Gardener's group often get together. They are women of different ages and different backgrounds, they often discuss their lives while working on projects together. The most common question that comes up regularly? "Tell me again why we had children?" Grandchildren are sometimes mentioned...but not always in positive terms!

A long, looonnnggg, time ago I had a boyfriend and we talked about having children, sadly, well at the time I tought it was sad, the relationship did not work and I remained childless (child free) and now I thank God it didn't work.

Good for you! My mother *never* should have had children. We were the result of Catholic guilt. I'm now child -free due to inability, and it's fine with me.

And if you love it, that's fine. Some people feel fulfilled by raising children. Some people are good at raising children. People who fit both those criteria will benefit from having children, and, more importantly, will produce children who will benefit from being raised by them. The point made by all these jokes and stories and comments is that not everybody *does* fit that mold- and if we're sarcastic about the attitudes of parents toward the child-free, it's because child-free people have grown tired of being lectured, jeered at, patronised, and occasionally outright harangued and called selfish, for having made the decisions which feel right for us. We could get angry with the people who do this- or, we could smile and mock them in turn. It seems better and more positive to do the latter.
