A very nice review, Ventile is an interesting fabric. It started life in the WW2 and was used as an immersion suit for pilots. I have an old parker made from Ventile and considering it was made in 1973 it's still useable. I like Sasta's outdoor clothing, I am based in the UK, it's bit pricey but worth it as it last for years.
Hi Steward, Thank you for the very kind words. Yes, Ventile has an interesting history. Owned by the Swiss nowadays. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
Stefan, Thanks! I know... but without making a fire once in a while.... I would loose my mind. Sorry nature🙏. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs
Hi, thanks a lot for another great review! Any more specific info about the jacket’s waterproofness? Is there a watercolumn number for it or is it impossible to determine the weatherproofness from something like that for this jacket? I’m considering between a ventile jacket and a synthetic shell jacket for an all-around hiking and everyday wear. Needs to handle rain as well. Any input on my dilemma? Natural fiber would be nice so I wouldn’t have to be so terrified near campfire wearing it.
Hi JK, You are welcome! It is not waterproof and I don't know the watercolumn. I noticed in practice that it is pretty water resistant. This was only a small short 'review' and I asked Sasta for a long term jacket for better testing. I think I should send them a reminder😉. If you need help and are in sort of my timezone... feel free to call for some advice on your choice. See outdoorguru.com/contact-3/ for the number. Cheers, Gijs
Hello Gijs, thank you again for a great RU-vid channel. Do you have any recommendations for backpacking rucksack for juniors? I have been looking at Bergans Birkebeier (?) and Osprey Ace. I really want a backpack which my son can grow with. Thanks for all the great work. Stay safe!
Hi SM7UDB, Sorry for the late reply but I was out on a commercial shooting for the Royal Dutch Mountaineering Association. As far as I am aware the Birk has an adjustable back length so for growing kids this is fine. I Bergans makes descent packs. Also the pack is not that heavy. Question: what age is your son an how long? Cheers, Gijs
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Thank you for the reply. I also thought that the Birk might be the more suited. He is long for his age, about 152cm now. Are there any other alternatives for juniors? A backpack suited for women seems to be smaller in size and adjustable. Kind regards, Mike
Yes, there are... Deuter and Vaude for example. With 152 he might be is tall like a small 'adult'. I am 169 and like women backpacks since I am quite slim. What you should be aware of is the fact that he still is a junior and his bones are growing and too much weight on a back is not advisable. Bigger packs have more capacity hence a heavier load... Just be aware of this.
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Thank you for the great advice. I think I order a Birk, they are quite affordable through the Swedish association “Friluftsfrämjandet”. Then One never know what happens with the interest as they get older🙃. Thanks again, hope to see more great vids! Take care and stay safe./Mike
