The SAT exam is now an hour shorter and is completely digital. The College Board piloted the digital exam abroad last year. NBC News’ Zinhle Essamuah has more on why the changes were made and what students are saying.

The system really makes it all about getting good grades at all cost, rather than making learning important and fun. Probably best to invest in homeschooling.

This like this complicate everything. I'm trying to get into nursing school and so many people have 3.8-4.0+ since online classes began.

@@ginajanee12 It's so easy to cheat in classes where assignments and exams are all online. All you need is google, GPT, etc. GPT is available as a phone app, and now has the feature to snap pictures, which means suspicious activity (such as going to different tabs and windows) won't be detected.

Cheating has never been easier. Although if someone can access the answer, that's almost the same thing in today's world.

The official test will lock your computer into its own browser, preventing cheating. Additionally due to randomized questions, it becomes impossible to cheat within testing centers. Additionally, due to hard locked timers and sections its impossible to spend extra time on sections. Hence, its actually much safer of a test.

The comments in here show the sad reality that people can’t even watch a 2-minute video before commenting. All the exams are still proctored and students will have to take the test on a software provided by the college board, it will automatically terminate the test if you try to leave the window and look at other apps. Can there still be cheating? Yes. If someone is determined enough to design a malware and hack the College Board system, which I’m sure also have computer security requirements (windows defender, etc has to be on). But paper is much more prone to cheating. The test administered internationally through tens of thousands of people, I’d rather trust a cyber system to be honest.

And terrible as no jobs asks for SAT scores and acts as a barrier for smart people who don't take tests very well thereby putting up a artificial barrier to entry when in reality the "slacker" may be a absolute genius that's miserable being held back by the system that's supposedly there to help them excel in school.

Because the SAT only goes up to Algebra II which is 11th grade math on the regular track or 10th or even 9th for some people

Let’s get the misinformation out of the way. The exam is taken on a custom made app. The moment the test starts and the student is connected to the testing centre wifi, the app fills the screen, locks and the timer starts. No student has the same question as the other in their particular room. Each section is divided into two modules. The difficulty of the second module is determined by the performance in the first. I think it’s much safer and easier. The test is NOT done in the comfort of your own home. You have to go to a centre where you will be monitored by a proctor in every conceivable way.

Watching this makes me feel old.😂 I took the SAT AND ACT in 2018, and they were completely on paper. I do find the adaptive testing component to be interesting. However, how will they be able to manage that for students nationally-not just locally?

I just took it yesterday it is proctored in an app that locks our computers from doing anything else but the test. They thought this one through for sure although they made the test way harder than the practice tests given this time around.

Tbh, they should have multiple types of exams that cover a wider variety of skills. Not just sitting down on a test, but have some in person elements, group meetings, etc. Things that show the different strengths and weaknesses of different kids. stop making it a one size fits all idea of success. its dumb af.

That's not within the competencies of the College Board. That is why the SAT is only one of the portfolio of works that is evaluated where SATs are evaluated.
