I have a couple quality of life tips for you: To use the concrete foundations over the FICSIT Foundations (Default), while in the build menu (Q), there is an orange drop down on the right side of the top of your buildable selection screen. You can change your selection there. When making conveyers (or pretty much anything), you can change your version of the item (Mk1/Mk2 for conveyer, switching between merger and splitter etc..) by holding the E key. If you need to switch a merger to a splitter, or a splitter to a merger, if you only have one input and one output, you can build over top of the item by holding Ctrl, similar to how you upgrade Mk 1 conveyer belts with Mk 2 ones. As far as your factory is concerned, I think you are doing a wonderful job. Your factory is much cleaner than my first one was. It is nice to have 100% efficiency, but I would suggest not fretting too much over it (it can be a good learning experience though on figuring out why it is not 100% efficient). As long as you are having fun with what you are working on, that is all that is important. Finally, the worst thing you can have happen later in the game is to lose power. To run a Coal Generator, you need water and coal, which both take some electricity to make. It is a lot of extra work to get it started again. When you move to Fuel and Nuclear, the power required to restart the system increase exponentially. This is just something to be aware of, but overall, love watching you play and learn.

Thank you for your help and advice It's certainly a huge learning curve this game but I'm enjoying the journey. I do start using concrete soon 😀

Consumption is power that you're actively, presently using. You see this line go up and down because machines are not running at 100% efficiency; they are stopping because they don't have enough input items (pretty much every factory will have some degree of this, you shouldn't worry about it too much). Production is power you're actively, presently producing. If you're seeing this line go up and down that could be a problem; for example not enough water or coal going into your generators will cause this line to go up and down as coal generators stop and restart power production. Some power sources, like geothermal power later in the game, will not have a constant rate of production; but at this point where you're on coal this line should be flat (unless you're building new coal generators). Capacity is your total possible power production. The standalone biomass burners will only burn their fuel and generate power when they need to. So the reason this line is above your production line is because you have biomass burners that are idling, because you simply don't need that much power. This can be a good thing, as if you have a sudden demand for power you might be able to accommodate it without having the breaker flip and the grid shut off. Another way to phrase "capacity" would be "maximum production". The last line, maximum consumption, is the amount of power the grid would draw if all the machines were operating at the same time (every machine at 100% efficiency). This line being above the capacity line tells you that if you got all your machines running at 100% efficiency you wouldn't have enough power. So basically, keep an eye on your power, as you improve factory efficiency, add more power production as well.

Fantastic! Thank you so much. I have wondered about it for some time now. Brilliant explanation, I bet it'll help plenty of people too 👍🤗

Keep it up, boss. You're getting close to your first "I need to redo ALL of this" teardown of at least one site, and it'll be fun. Odds are, you'll be frustrated with the output and realize you didn't upgrade one itty bitty belt section somewhere and it's slowing you down. Also, you will start to twitch every time you see a recipe that requires screws. I was the one that mentioned inline storage, so I'll clarify: When you're building something that requires a very common component for your builds, you'll want to add storage as a buffer. Take iron plates and rods: You'll need a ton of both to build all of your conveyor belts, so rather than try to optimize a line to the exact part-for-part run, it might be worthwhile to produce too many plates and rods in a production line, and store the excess so you always have a container full of conveyor belt parts.

I appreciate your advice and I do try to take it all onboard. I'm not great at remembering names but thank you for the storage advice. It seems to provide a great buffer too ☺️

If you click twice on the STANDBY switch, this will reset the efficiency percentage, using the current production stats.

3:42 At minute 3 minutes 57 seconds you said you didn't know that you have more power consumers than power generators. ;) 5:47 The limestone miner produces 120 items per minute, but the mark 1 belt behind only handles 60. You need a mark 2 belt to use the full potential of the miner. If you don't have enough material, just add a splitter right behind the miner and only upgrade the short belt between miner and splitter. ;) 6:39 sliding too long. Jump as soon as you land. ;) 7:32 Yay =) 10:33 Those numbers represent: Max Cons: Max Consumption when all machines are running at the same time (which they aren't right now because of inefficiency. Some machines stop running because of missing input or lacking space to output. So they stop every now and then which is represented by the orange line (Consumption). See the raises and drops in the line? That means machines start to work and use energy or stop working and therefore stop using energy. Production is the energy you are producing right now. All generators (except Biofuel Burners) run all the time at max capacity. 6 Coal Generators producing each 75 MW, adding up to 450 MW. The Capacity of 480 MW is from your connected Biofuel Burners. If you exceed the 450 MW limit, those Generators start working and produce additional 30 MW. 28:57 Now I am impressed. 30:00 What.Did.I.Miss.?. TLDR: Read, but don't take the following Text too serious. I see, you get there on your own just fine. :) Even more impressed now. Oof... 13:45 The smelter puts out 30 items per minute (as seen on the right side of the interface). The constructor at 13:57 takes in max 15 items per minute (seen on the left side of the interface), while the constructor at 14:04 takes in 30 items per minute. So the Smeltery feeding into the Rod-Constructor produces 30 items but only 15 will be accepted at the constructor, which causes a backlog and the smeltery fills slowly up with ingots and shuts off every now and then. The constructor at 14:04 produces 20 items (plates) per minute (seen on the right side of it's interface) which are fed into an assembler at 14:14 which needs 30 items (plates) per minute (seen on the left side of the interface). So that assembler is also shutting down every now and then because of missing items. The same assembler also needs 60 other items (screws) per minute but the constructor at 14:21 only produces 40 items (screws) per minute, as seen on its right side of the interface. So the assembler shuts down as well, because of missing screws. Also, the screw constructor at 14:21 can only handle 10 items per minute, but the feeder tries to push in 15 items per minute, which causes a backlog of rods. And all this on/off status changes causes your power consumtion to fluctioate as seen in 10:33 ;) At 16:55 you split 15 items per minute into 2* 7,5 items per minute which are then fed into machines which needs 10 items per minute. That works, because it now produces 60 screws per minute, but if you split off the iron ingots instead of the rods, feeding the ingots into a second Rod-Constructor you get 30 Rods per minute combined, which you can then merge and split again into 3 Screw-Assemblers, producing 120 screws per minute. That is enough to run two assemblers (2*60 screws) and you just need to check for the iron plates. :) As you can see at 21:00 your backlogged plates dropped already down from 60 to 40, because of feeding it too less of them. I put a link into your discord for a possible solution. :) 24:12 there is a way to search for crash sites. You need an object scanner. You can research that in the Tier 1 Milestone about Field Research and build it in the Equipment Workshop. It has just 250 meters range, so keep it handy at all times. :) You also need to research Radio Signal Scanning in the MAM, which is hidden down in the Quartz tree. So go out, get some quartz and start researching. That will keep you busy for a while. Another option is to look for crash sites at satisfactory-calculator dot com on the interactive map. ;)

As always, I do try to learn from the guidance you and others provide. I'm not the sharpest knife in the draw but I am trying 👍🤗
