'Deep Water' is not a developer or publisher. Is was basically Sega's own "Adults Only" rating for extra violent games, independent of the fledgling ESRB. A few titles (Duke Nukem 3D, Eternal Champions, etc) were rated Mature, and also received the Deep Water tag for their releases on he Saturn/CD.

Yup, and some of the fighters were actually going to do something helpful. For example, Xavier was gonna help his people with his magic, but since he was living in the Salem Witch Trials era, he got accused of being a warlock and was gonna get burned at the stake
Yeah the idea was that they were all gonna change the world. I think Jetta was like a secret agent who was gonna prevent World War I or something? Anyway the scale is kind of weird because while some characters will completely change the course of history by inventing agriculture in 50k BC dudes like Larcene just stop a mob war.
Anybody else had the Eternal Champions "game books"? They were like table top RPGs combined with a choose your own adventure books. You had stats and chose a fighting style that gave you exclusive options in combat. I remember them being pretty rad. Your martial artist went on time travel adventures.
The original scrublords was how I ran into these guys . Matt, Woolie, and the gang have been there for me during good times and bad times. Much respect SBF.

@9:24 Woolie, the on-screen CD loading icon is a feature of the emulator. All versions of the Sega/Mega CD had indicators on the console itself, though. The Japanese and Euro model 1 Mega CD had 10 of the goddamn things: one green and one red LED for 'CD Access', CD tray status (CD In *and* CD Out), and 'Standby Mode', and above that two larger indicators for 'Ready' and 'Access'. The US model 1 stripped it down to just the big Ready/Access lights, and all the model 2s simplified it even further with just a single red LED for when the system was reading the CD. Wait, what I mean is uh OF COURSE the original system had on-screen indicators because you guys ALWAYS play the real thing and are not a bunch of filthy godless pirates. Yeah that's the ticket.
Id say the creepiest ones were Pro Skater 3 with the Eyeball having a dead headless body as its own body and Underground 1 someone got eaten by the Creature of the black lagoon creature leaving bones behind

To do a vendetta, you have to put your enemy into a stun state below at least 33% of their health and then execute the move. Also, every stage has two fatalities that can be performed. The overkill is on the final hit of the round and sudden death can be done at any time below 25% of enemy health. If you guys watch the round when you dealt sudden death to R.A.X. on his stage, he still had a good chunk of health left on the final round. The cinekills are ridiculously hard and are performed by landing the final blow of a power combo at the same time you stun your enemy, and they must be below 33% health on the final blow.

My favorite Sega CD game was something called Willie Beamish. A game so good that it shipped with a game ending bug so you could never finish it. Great game. Great system.
mrchuckl3s I loved that game growing up, and yup I never could beat it because of the bug. I even bought it a second time after I got rid of my Sega CD, just so I could put it in a CD player and listen to the sweet guitar solo intro music.
Let's talk about the boss of this game. It was fucking bullshit. An SNK boss will at least kill you fast. The one in this game makes you fight him TEN ROUNDS with only a little bit of healing between rounds. Then you have to do it AGAIN with the Dark Champion. WHY
For those wondering, the characters were chosen because their survival would change history in a way that would prevent the universal catastrophe destroying the Eternal Champions timeline.
Someone out there certainly liked Eternal Champions - Bone Thugs N Harmony sampled its soundtrack TWICE. Gotta give it some credit, the soundtrack is pretty damn good.
No word of a lie, on Turbo speed with experienced FGC people, this game is amazing. It's like jumpy ST, but twice as fast with every grounded hit going into a touch-of-death combo

Maybe I've gotten too used to extremely shitty games on Scrublords, but this doesn't seem nearly as shitty as other Scrublords games. Could even be a Fisticuffs if you wanted.
Oh, I'm not going to make it very far if I'm correcting every fucking thing you say. The original Eternal Champions was released 14 months after MK1 and actually tried to differentiate itself with things like a deeper story, reflectable projectiles, characters with weapons, and introduced the first training mode in a fighting game.
Id say it was a bad game with some really cool shit in it. Its that middle ground where its not good enough to be fistacuffs, but not shit enough for scrublords.
I was WONDERING when you'd get around to this game!! The Genesis version of this was a big part of my childhood-- Dad and I would play together when I was as young as five.
My brother and I discovered new things in this game every time we played. Most everything was by random chance for us. Genesis version may have been slower paced but to me it will always be the better version. Rax was always my favorite.
You guys are missing an important part of the lore. Every single character who is killed would contribute something greater than themselves to society that would've prevented the end of the world. Even if just one of them lives, it would prevent it. So that's why the Champion pulled them out to give all of them a chance to live and also to save the world no matter who wins. I fucking love this game, first fighter I ever played as a kid so it holds a big place in my heart. I wish it would make some kind of a comeback.
Okay so here's the thing, the story goes that the winner gets to go back to the time they died right and avoid it, but if that's the case, you'd want Xavier to win. His ending has him mastering time travel, so he could just go back and then get all the heroes and they could all beat the Dark Champion.
