She moans that the garage is a mess. She never goes in there for any reason other than to say "it's a mess in there"!!

For this reason I bought a stripping machine about 9 years ago. I don't put armoured cable through but when the armour is off it's a dream machine

@jointechcabling9103 if I was dealing with cable all the time I would definitely get one but I only collect it from work I work on building sites old and new I always pic it up it's a habit collect cable 😅

I get mine from the job I'd do. One thing I would say is try and get friendly with businesses on industrial areas around your city. They may start leaving scrap metal out for you. Also skips are sometimes a great source of all kinds of scrap.

I was a spark but I just do LV cable jointing now. I love it, it’s so much better.

It’s only aluminium on single core cables. Three core and four core uses steal armouring. It’s to do with the earthing capabilities and so on and so forth.

I bought it from a scrap yard in Harrogate. You can get them from eBay. I think they’re around £600. You’ll get a Chinese one cheaper though.

2500mm square cable may exist but I'd assume it was for undersea transfer voltages or something very specific. The biggest cable I've ever worked with is a 4cx400mm and that has a diameter of around 72mm. I've seen lead covered undersea cables that are probably 100mm plus in size but never been hands on. That scrapyards have industrial stripping machines that could easily handle cables that big. They also have granulation plants that turn cables into copper dust and remove everything else using cyclonic separation techniques and magnets.

I paid £300 from a scrap yard. You can get them from eBay though for around the same price.

I don't put armoured cable through it coz the blades can get damaged.

Yeah definitely. 60kg will get you over 300 quid. It'll probably take 2hrs to strip by hand. Not a bad hourly rate😂😂😂

One job. But I’ve had 4 months of nothing at all before that.

E-bay, Amazon, lots of places you can get them. I bought a new one a couple of weeks back off eBay from a guy in Wales who makes them. It's a handy tool, I paid 250 for mine with a 1kw motor that can do anything from 1mm - 50mm 👍🏽 Best value for money one I could find.

I did not know that. I thought it was all pvc. So it's better to separate the black outer from the rest for ease of recycling?
