Sir, Mr Ray was in a pure Indian (Bengali) attire. We didn't get the opportunity to see him by person on/off camera. I am Proud to be a Bengali Indian.

It was an unique and rare occasion where the French President himself travelled to confer the honour. Usually the recipient travels to France to receive the honour. Who else but for Satyajit Ray one can make such exceptions!!

Satyajit Ray is truly a Legend. I am glad I had the fortune to meet him all alone in 1968. I wish I had kept the map, the diagram he drew for me which took me to Tinu's place in Bally gunj with no problem.

As great an artist that was Ray, it was equally great and gracious for President Miterrand to come down to Calcutta to bestow him with the honor 🎖
