Totally disagree. I love Satyricon's albums from the first to the last. I even love their demo The Forest is My Throne. I don't want a band to stay the same, doing the same shit their entire career. Havoc Vulture is a kick ass song off of Rebel Extravaganza. I love Repined Bastard Nation off of Volcano. That's what I loved about Emperor, Enslaved, and Immortal is that they progressed and evolved, although Immortal less so. I follow the Mike Muir philosophy "Just because you don't like it don't mean it ain't no good."

You should give Volcano another chance dude. I love Dark Medieval Times and The Shadowthrone. I agree Possessed is the best tune on the album. But man, With Ravenous Hunger is awesome, the second half of Repined Bastard Nation is great with the melodic parts. Volcano isn't that bad. But it's only my opinion though. Great Retrospective videos. I enjoy them a lot. Keep em coming. Do some more old death and thrash ones. Maybe some Demolition Hammer, Hellwitch, Grave, Devastation, or Carcass. \m/

this was amusing, haha. love the passion though. as a Swedish guy who grew up with Scandinavian BM i can say that The Shadowthrone is held in the highest regard of all Satyricon album and it fkn should. The first album was considered cool but was kind of brushed off only to pave way for one of the coolest BM albums ever. Then, Nemesis is just fine, and the Rebel album is boring but stands on its own, and their new era started with Volcano. Get that! Come on dude, Black Lava is an evil fkn song and you ought to read the lyric.

Think you were too harsh on Rebel Extravaganza. Ok, there some iffy moments here and there (e.g. Havoc Vulture, The Scorn Torrent, all instrumentals), but songs like Filthgrinder, Prime Evil Renaissance, A Moment of Clarity and Supersonic Journey are awesome. It may not be as amazing of an album as the three previous ones, but overall it is their most ferocious sounding and adventurous album.

"King" was the only song i heard from these guys and i never gave them another chance. until now that is :P

Obviously the reviewer doesn’t appreciate the amazing progress of mayhems grand declaration of war...still the greatest in both production and innovation. Though I let my interest for most metal at age 37 is still think there are a lot of black metal bands that stand out. To name a few: deathspell omega, Cultes des ghoules, my dutch pride gnaw their tongues (disgusting yet fascinating) et cetera. All time favourites: Satyricon nemesis diVINA, immortal blizzard beasts, Emperor Arnhems & IX (!!), burzum filosofem, Darkthrone blaze, cof dusk (!), mayhem (All), Marduk ROM (!). Keep up the Great retrospctives. Greetings fron the Netherlands!

Nice reviews man, I agree with your views. I used to think they were amazing but after 'rebel' I can't get excited about them while they upped their production. I guess they just want to be too edgy and ride the mainstream media as well. I like 'havoc vulture' though it has a Hammond organ and a great chorus. I hoped they would go on to make epic BM and better produced sounds but they just bored it up. What about 'Thorns' ? It's well produced but punishing or the 'Leviathan' studio albums, equally brutal but HiFi BM. I guess satyricon chose to be more accessible to become a successful band but lost something unique along the way.

Nemesis Devina is 10/10 perfect. Everything else is either sub-par like Rebel Extravaganza or unbearable like, everything after that one.

Satyricon is a sad story. The feeling when listening to Dark medieval times is insane. I don't think their output now is bad per se, but it is to me just painfully average, made all the more disappointing when compared to their previous work.

Lol I love your videos. We all have our opinions, I love their first 4 albums, can’t stand the rest of them. Some people like both the old and new stuff. Nothing wrong with being critical. They’re just opinions and preferences.

The Shadowthrone always seemed like a practice album, they re-use several riffs, drum beats, and even sometimes track layouts in Nemesis Divina. It's like they had the concept in mind but not the skill yet or weren't prepared to execute it.

The funny thing is….. Satyricon keeps growing as a band….. and they don’t give a shit for this kind of opinion….. off course they changed their sound after Nemesis, but they still creating excellent songs ….. it’s just a matter of “taste”….. everyone is diferent.

I put Satyricon in the same category as Cradle of Filth, They aren't really Black Metal but they helped me get into Black Metal when i was 18 because they were actually able to be played on the radio. Once you're already into mild black metal it's easier to get into Immortal and Darkthrone.

Instrumental black metal songs are better than songs with vocals.

To me it sounds like early Satyricon just copied the surface aesthetics of earlier Norwegian bands, rather than being related in passion and inspiration. They nail everything except the last 5% of actually 'getting' what Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal and Emperor got, whatever that was. I think a big part of this is song structure. Just like Opeth they have lots of cool riffs and ideas, but also like Opeth they have no idea how to create coherent songs once one movement replaces another. That's a pretty significant flaw if your goal is to write songs like narratives instead of having a verse - chorus structure. It's funny that you go on about how Rebel Extravaganza is "un-catchy and doesn't have cool riffs..isn't like first albums waaah" and think that makes it not black metal when the entire genres origin is being as unappealing to the masses as possible and different. Which is what Rebel was meant to be. Hoping every band will churn out the same album in out, every year, like clockwork, is the McDonalds of music consumption. Just some food for thought. But hey, everyone is entitled to their preferences and opinions, you don't have to like and buy it. I didn't like Volcano either when it came out and rarely go back to it.

If you call Nemesis Divina (which you misspelled by the way) masturbation - you know little. Satyricon is hella awesome band in everything they have done and Frost is the number one, not just as a musician as a personality as well. Oh yes, I love volcano, listening it on a daily basis. Check them out I suppose you have never heard them.
