Saucony Tempus Vs Asics Gel-Kayano 30 | We compare two very different stability shoes

The Saucony Tempus is a shoe that aims to balance performance features with stability elements, giving runners that want a supportive ride the versatility to train comfortably across different sessions.
That support comes from the combination of a contoured PWRRUN frame and a deeper midsole design to hold the foot in place with a plush fit, along with supportive midsole geometry and base.
The Asics Gel-Kayano line has long been synonymous with all-out stability. For those runners looking for a high level of support, it’s an option that sits at the top of the list, but has offered little versatility for runners who want a balance of stability, comfort and enjoyment.
The Asics Gel Kayano 30 sees one of the biggest revamps the shoe has seen for a long time, featuring an increased level of cushioning, a new FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam and a 4D Guidance System that aims to provide a more natural level of stability.
Tom has been testing the shoes out which he'd pick as his stability option.

Excellent review. After a gait analysis, I started using stability shoes and particularly the Kayano. The problem is that it was so clunky. I'm now using the Tempus and it's a massive improvement, though clearly the Kayano has improved as well. You mentioned that the Tempus isn't quite as roomy as the Kayano; though this needs some context as the Kayano has a very roomy toe-box. I have slightly wide feet, to the extent that the Puma Nitro series is far too tight, but the Tempus feels fine.

Great review. Relatedly, I haven’t bought a pair of Sauconies in a number of years but have decided to check back in on the state of the Kinvara line and brand overall. Are any of their current offerings comparable to the Kinvara 11 (my favorite daily trainer ever between its lightness and stop-on-a-dime dexterity) and if not which brand/model would you instead recommend?

I would get these both shoes ! One for faster runs and really hot days while the other would be for easy and recovering runs and also for casual use.

I agree the Tempest is great - also i have been impressed with the wear on the shoes. Welll over 100 miles and no significant wear. Given the minimal rubber i didnt expect that and i supinate heavily on the outside sole on one foot. I ground through the Adios Pro 2 sole at that one spot at about the same distance!

I have similar under pronating issues in one foot. Saucony's thin rubber seems durable.

Pushing 700 miles in the Tempus (having previously spent years running in Hoka Arahi). Most of my running is zone 2 (9 minutes per mile), occasionally bumping it up into zone 4 (7:15 ish per mile) and find these really rewarding when I up the pace. Pity Hoka have done nothing with the Arahi, now that everyone else has jumped aboard the dual density foam train and do it so much better. They’re terrific, the Powerrun PB seems to be indestructible, same with the upper. I can see me getting another 100 or so miles in these, easily.

700?!!! How is the cushion and structure of the shoe holding up? After 300-350 (on saucony kinvara and guides) my feet start to ache and a fresh pair is needed.
@rayamos1398
@rayamos1398 7 месяцев назад
@@MrFrodster I eventually retired them at 750 miles, replaced them with another pair of Tempus. There's definitely a difference in the feel of the foam but in all honesty I think I could have just replaced the insole and continued to use the Tempus up to 1000 miles.

Do you think if Kipchoge went disguised into a shoe store, they would sell him a pair of Kayano's to stabilise that heel flare?

I absolutely adore my Tempus. As long as it's not wet, that is! The grip these provide on wet is horrendous! Im on the hunt for wet weather alternative to these. I'll appreciate any tips greatly!

I strongly prefer the Tempus (I'm on my second pair after doing 1000k in my first pair) but Puma foreverrun Nitro does a similar job and the grip is miles better albiet a bit 'noisy/slappy' - might be worth a look.

I have a crooked toe because of a bunion and the doctor recommended that I have to wear a shoe that has excellent stability in case it is hard and I can't bend it. I have Kayano 30 and I live it, the guide it's good like Kayano? I'm talking about stability and like 70% hard when you walk?

I bought the Tempus, and I'm sending it back because the arch is so pronounced I can't even take standing in them. Seems only a couple of shoe reviewers on YT talk about the arch profile when it comes to fit, when it's such a critical criteria for a buyer/runner.

Could you use both as part of a rotation? I have the Tempus currently and was looking at the Kayano as my alternative for easy runs and walking. Would this work? Also looked at the Hyperion Max for intervals as I am a neutral runner but when tired need some support hence the above choices. Would the max fit into the rotation or would suggest it isn’t needed? TIA

Does the Tempus foam soften up at all? Tried them on in a shop and they felt rock hard like concrete…
@rayamos1398
@rayamos1398 7 месяцев назад
Yes, in my experience (two pairs) they take 30 or so miles to break in and then soften up a little. However, they are always a little firm at lower paces, I find I need to up the pace a litle to get the best bounce out of them.

Esta comparativa estaría mas igualada con el Asics gt 2000 12 seguro que le gana en estabilidad,comodidad y peso,aunque no en rebote al saucony con el mismo drop de 8mm.
